I know I have been a bad, bad forumer latley and depriving you guys of videos and pictures. When I got home from school Strikes was asking for some attention so I went and seen him. I grabbed the camera and hopped on him with just a peice of twine.

Please don't lecture me about helmets or having on a bridle This was all in good fun :) He is such a soft horse. Sorry the video isn't the best, I had to set it on a fence post lol.

P.s Please excuse they way I look. I know I'm rather chunky ;) lol and I had just gotten home from school. Also please ignore my voice I know I sound rather funny lol.

So the qestion is how soft is your horse?

That's really cute :) Trust is a wonderful thing to have with your horse. I could do that with my gelding but I don't think I'd go there with my two mares....yet.

Awe, that's great.:) I've ridden Dakota bareback and bridleless once, but he doesn't listen nearly as well as your Strikes does. It's awesome that you can do that with him.:) I love his back-up, I wish I could teach Beauty to drop her head like that when I ask her to back.
Thanks for sharing. He's a very handsome boy.xD

That's impressive. No way could you pay me enough to do that with Buster and I've been working with him for years. When he gets a whiff of wanting to speed up, you'd better have a bit in his mouth or a hackamore on.

Thanks for sharing!

That's great! Strikes is such a cutie.

In response to your question, well, let's just put it this way...I can lope circles, trot serpentines, slide to a stop, back up, and do roll backs with just a rope around Bronson's neck. But, well, heh, that's not really normal, and he's pretty in tune to me...

Hubby does the "string" and "no helmet" method a lot....
It is always fun to see how horses react given only limited aids.;)
He is very good and respects you a lot. Hope you get more days to ride....we are go out "if ain't raining Hard!!" restrictions....hehehehe..... It was a Scotch Mist all day today....so the legs and head got wet.

Very cool, I love how nicely he privets and backs up. You two have a great relationship and Strikes is so handsome.

Thanks for all of the reply's :)

Palogal Thanks. I have ridden my horse Driften with just a string before too. He won't back but he will whoa and turn really easy :)

Dakota Sunrise Thank you, it took alot to get him to drop his head. He actually does better with the string than with a bit. When I back him up with a bridle he drops his head and curls it real nice but he drops it very low when he just has the string on. I took a lot for him to learn to be soft. His trainer/previous owner had him back-up around the round pen many times and still couldn't get a nice bakc out of him under saddle. I worked hard in the saddle with him then he finally got it.

Clarzoo Thank you, I agree yet again, I am quite biased ;)

Gypsy Rose Thank you too. You inspire me to want to share more often

JackieB Thank you. It takes time and a lot of trust to just hop up there and ride around. I wouldn't go anywhere with out a bridle but I don't mind riding around the pen that way. I know if I fall or anything he will still be in an inclosed area. Another way you could do it just for fun, you could tie a rope around his neck with the bridle still on and just try it then if he didn't listen you still had a bridle :)

ImaBronsonBear That is great. I'd love to get Strikes up to that level and I'm confident that I evetually will. Thats really neat :)

offgridgirl Thank you. Nice to know I'm not the only one ;). I agree as well. My paint will decide, hey I'm not doing that and when you only have a string you just have to do what you can. I think he has a lot of respect for me too. I hope you have some better weather headed your way so you can ride. I plan on riding over thanksgiving break.

GrungeEquestrian Thank you. It's kinda funny he is softer to the rope than to the bit some times. I hope we will be able to learn how to spin some time :)

Excellent video. What a good horse Strikes is. I need more work with my girl before anyone tries that on her. I don't know what kind of training Mira had but she has two speeds, walk and after-burner.:) I'm going to work with her a lot more on that issue. The slightest leg pressure and shes off like a shuttle launch (ask Carla) and you'd better be ready to GO.

Wouldn't try it with my herd. I have ridden Booty once in a halter and lead ropes, but that was it and it didn't go the greatest.

Your guy Strikes looks almost identical to my Reno. Cute horse!

I only gripe at people about helmets that are either 1) related to me or 2) would result in a losing claim on my insurance ;)

SundaysMan Strikes was actually alot like that when I first got him. He still is kind of speedy wich is why I would never attempt this out on the trail, etc. He has started learn to relax though and he has turned into quite the horse. He is only 5. He is the type of horse I can hype up but shut down and calm down when I want. I love it

lovesfortune Thank you :) I think I have seen a few pics of your reno and you are right they could be brothers lol

palogal Good to know ;). I don't wear a helmet unless I'm showing. I know people don't like that wich is why I said not to lecture me. It is my choice and I know something could happen, anytime. But that is the choice I choose to take :) Just saying lol. Plus I don't let hardly anybody ride my horses (especially Strikes, I don't want anybody to mess him up) so insurance is not an issue for me.
