So what kinda computer do you like best? And why do you like it/not like it?

I still have my Dell Desktop I got when I went to college... it's still trucking along!
My christmas present this year is going to be a laptop. I know I won't be lucky enough to get an apple, so I'm sure it'll be a Dell, Gateway, or other Windows machine.

I'm running XP but as I desperately want a Mac and I struggle to justify £1000 on a Macbook Air I just skinned my XP ;)
So, basically, my PC looks (and acts) like a Mac. I love it :D.
I also have a laptop that works brilliantly as a mouse mat. It broke. :D
I'm building a new gaming computer round Christmas time :)

We had an IBM that we really liked but that finally died after a few yrs. We had a Dell and that lasted a yr and 1/2 and had 2 keyboards. The keys just popped off when the cat walked across it. This is a Toshiba, it's fine. It's running a little slow not sure why. My husband just got his own since I sort of took this one over. I can't remember what he got but it was not expensive. It works fine, he likes it. I need to check the picture program it came with. I loved the one Dell came with, I hate this one.

Oursarge - try running a virus check (Avast! Antivirus is both awesome and free :)), then try running the disk defragmenter :D. That should speed it up - also, you could try uninstalling programs you don't use anymore.

I have an old desktop PC that I use sparingly. I have an older IBM laptop that I use sparingly and a new Mac laptop that I use the most. I don't have everything on the new one yet but am working on that. My wife has some great discounts from work and something else that she used to buy us both the new Macs. She had used them at school/work and they had been given great reviews by some techy students.

Me too. The one I'm using is nearly 9 years old I think. I've upgraded it, but it's still ticking, and has been ticking along pretty much 24/7 all that time. And I'm not a casual computer user, I depend on it.

I have an emachine. Ive had one before, they work just fine, you just have to know, as with any computer, what's in it. I had a monitor of theirs burn up, many yrs ago, they replaced it for free.

Mine is a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. Seems to be a pretty nice one so far. I've also had a few HP laptops and was happy with them too.

I'm on a Dell PC that I bought back in 2002 and it still runs great! However, I long to be able to move about the house when working from home AND be able to work in the barn if I ever (hope to never) have a sick horse again. Sooo... Dell is having a sale this week and on Tuesday I ordered the GREEN Inspiron laptop - it should arrive mid-November and I'm VERY excited. I've never had a laptop though so I'm guessing it will take some figuring out as I know nothing of wireless stuff.

HP Vectra desktop. Believe it or not, this one was found at the Catholic Church clothing depot in the free section! It got dumped there because someone trashed the Windows 98 that was on it. A friend of mine put a better hard drive in it, I got Windows Xp loaded on it, and I've been running this since this April.
For 4 months before that, I was using a Mac G3 with only 4 GB of hard drive space, lol!
I may have only 20 GB on this one, but to me, it's huge compared to what I had.
Someday, I'd like to get a bigger, better computer, but I look at the fact that I'm lucky to have this one!

I've been a pc user for ages (90's). We just forked over $3K for a mac last weekend (damn there goes the dream of a country gig cart!).
Anyway- the last time I used a mac was 1991 (seriously). It'll be a learning curve :)
So we reconfigured the home office- PC on one side and the Mac on the other!

At home I have an Apple ibook. I bought it for school when I was in college because it was tough, light, and easy to carry with me. I like how easy Apple is to navigate and that they don't get many viruses. However, I don't like that they don't have XP...I like that sustem.
At work I'm on a PC and I like it. So I'm familiar with both types, I guess if I got another computer it would be a PC though.

We tried to use PC's, but we would kill off about 1 per year. The viruses got 'em QUICK! Finally we broke down and bought a mac mini (approx. $499 for just the cpu). We just hooked it up to our PC keyboard, mouse, speakers and monitor. We've had it for about 3 yrs now. It's never had any problems. It was a little difficult to get used to at first, but now it's fine. I prefer PC's because I grew up with them, used them at work and took all my college computer classes on them, BUT PC's just die too fast. I can't afford a new computer every year.

did you have any anti-virus systems installed on your comps? i have had my laptop sense 2004 and it is still going strong. i just got my first virus (thats what happens when you dont update your anti-virus, now i know) and my anti-virus got rid of it.

We tried SO hard to keep our software updated! Even when I worked at a college and my computer was constantly being updated/tweaked by their computer guy I still went through at least two CPU's while I was on staff those two years.

Dang a new one every year!!! You can always restore your harddrive to get rid of any virus picked up if you need to. Be very careful what you download - the rule in my house is we are very very selective on what we download - never have had a virus...

Well, my tower is a compaq tower, however it's guts are not compaq. I rebuilt it in Feb. My next comp will be a mac though....not a windows fan at all, give me linux or something based on linux LOL

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 and I LOVE IT. It was my first laptop too and now I don't know what I would do if I had to go back to a computer that stayed in one spot! :) Wireless is an amazing thing! I would love to get another one when this one goes in COLOR. Mine is just boring gray.
I got a Dell Inspiron 1525 earlier this year. I love it! :)

We have a dell, lenovo laptop, IMB ThinkPad, and a acer. All PC's. :) My dad just had to get an apple one time (laptop) he had it for about a week and played with all the different stuff on it and figured it wasn't for him and plus the $$ was like $2000!! So he took it back and got a perfectly good IMB ThinkPad for way less. :p
But I personally would like a mac. xD
