Someone is selling this saddle on craigslist but she doesn't know anything about it. I was wondering if someone recognizes this saddle? What would they go for?
I may go look at it tomorrow.

That's an Australian saddle alright, but I don't have any info beyond that. I like the fact that it doesn't have a horn.

Yes it is. I also like that it doesn't have a horn.

Not enough info to try to price it. Pic is too small to see it well. Does it come with leathers, stirrups, cinch etc.. Just off the cuff I'd say $150. roughly. Maybe more if it's a name brand.

Update us if you go see it.

Can't give you a price estimate, but I do want to say Australian saddles are reeeeeeeeeally comfy for the trail!! I personally am not crazy about Western saddles (they tend to be uncomfortable in my opinion...I feel like my legs might break off because they're too wide and I dislike the long stirrups), but depending on the kind of trail riding you do, an English saddle might not offer you enough security. Aussies though are a nice combo of the two - offering the security of a Western, but the comfort of an English (at least I think so).

So if it appears to be in relatively good shape and has a good tree and such, I say go for it. :) If she doesn't know much about it, you might be able to get a good deal on it....lol. Just sayin'!!! ;)

Thank you everybody. She is asking 250 and it does come with everything. Said it was only used once. I will see tomorrow. I guess you cannot really tell what kind of tree (wood etc) it is without knowing what brand it is.

Might be well worth. Check out prices on used tack for sale sites like Dreamhorse(tacktrader) etc. Aussies are built underneath like english saddles/stuffed panels *usually*.. There are some that have the more traditional western type underside.. ie fleece and flat. Does it say what size seat ? They run different from both eng and western. A 16 west would be like a 18-19" aussie. I think eng would be about a 17-17 1/2 You can check sizing and new pricing at downunderweb.com (http://www.downunderweb.com/) I have 2 aussies.. one w/horn for my granddaughter and one without for me.. Neither are name brand saddles and I paid about that for one of them..

I have 2 Aussies-- can't tell what kind that one is from the picture. The cheaper saddles come from India and have inferior leather. You can expect to pay $600-2500 for a decent one.

Saying that, one of mine is a decent saddle from DownUnder Saddle Company. It is the most comfortable saddle that I've ever ridden. My second saddle I picked up used; the leather is of poorer quality, but it will hold up to the use that I'm going to put it to, so I'm not that particular about it. It's as comfortable as my good saddle.

Any identifying marks on that particular saddle that would narrow down where it came from?

Well, I went to look at it and really there is nothing on this saddle telling you what it is. It was also way to big/wide for my guy. Oh well.
