I took Cash to his first IBRA run this weekend. It was a 3 day run, but I could only make in on Sunday. We've been having issues at the first barrel but I think I've got him figured out. We did awsome! The video looks a little slow, but it is a slow pen. The winning time was a 15.6??, and we ran a 17.4?? Unfortunatly that placed us in the giant hole of the 3D. But I was excited! I did not expect that our first time at a real barrel race together that we'd be in the 3D! Hopefully as I get some weight on him, get him back in shape, and we continue to build trust in each other we'll be fast enough to place in the 3D or maybe even make it back to his 2D times! But all in all I'm proud of the boy!

Video as promised!

You 2 look great!! Once you guys mesh and get to know each other, your times will get faster and faster! That first barrel was not too bad, but the other 2 were fantastic!! He really scoots around hey!

Yeah we're still working on the 1st barrel. 2nd is awsome!!!! I gotta work on my entrance to the 3rd. We went in a little wide for my liking!
His barrels are not like any other barrel horse I've ridden. He pretty much touches his shoulder to the barrel the whole way around and just spins his butt around. He's a real smooth ride!

A bat? Huh?

First looked good, just needs polishing, second was really good and I like how he stayed consistent the entire way around. 3rd is exactly what you said, He might go wide again once you add more speed.

Why do you hit him on the neck? Just curious.

Lookin good... I like the way he turns the barrels, he kinda spins around each one. Mine stops and then takes off again.

Definitely good for your first actual run together, can't wait to see you when you really get him going.

Never tried a whip with him... sure wasn't gonna take one on our first run. Don't know if it actually give him more speed or pisses him off.

Why do I hit him on the neck?.... cause I didn't have a whip. It's just something some barrel racers do to get a little more speed on the run home instead of carrying a whip.

I'm not against whips, I have to ride Fiddler with one. Just if the horse doesn't respond enough to it or you can get the same result with the hand, why keep up with something else.

Right now I'm only really pushing him out after the 3rd barrel, until we get our rhythm down.

I know nothing about barrel racing, but you both look great. Keep it up. :) I really like your new horse. He's nice.

The run looked great! And congrats for placing even in the 3D. That is still a good accomplishment. ;)

I know some barrel racers hit their horse on the neck. I was wondering why you did it- because you did not have a whip.
