I've never busked in anything like it.

We didn't get anything!! Not even 10p!!
Durham was full of nasty students and grumpy businessmen D:
I knew we should have offered free hugs.

I blame this:
At first, a little chilly (maybe 3 celsius), typical late october really.

THEN HAIL!

OMG who sent the nastiness?
Snow I could take, hail, no thanksh pls don't want your stinkin' ballsa ice.

Yeah, you gotta give it that.

It was a little eerie, because as soon as we stepped onto the riverside path it started to rain, and there was a flute busker not to far up whose music was clashing with bell practice in the Cathedral, so the overall effect was quite chilling.
Maybe that was just the temperature.

I like to think we brought a little happiness - we were warming up sitting on some leaves under some trees for cover, laughing at how bleak our money prospects looked :P so all people could hear was our music floating down the river, along with our laughter :D how sweet :innocent:

I was singing, Andy, whose idea it was, was playing guitar. We did all sortsa stuff, "Do Ya" by McFly, "Your Love Alone" by the Manic Street Preachers, "Wonderful World" by James Morrison, "Sweet About Me" by Gabriella Cilmi, "Saving My Face" by KT Tunstall. We woulda done more but Andy couldn't remember the chords :P

tbf I couldn't get all the words to the second verse of Sweet About Me

What exactly is "busking" and are we allowed to talk about it in mixed company? :innocent:

What do you mean by mixed company WB?

Busking is when you play music in public for free, but the standard pratice is that if you like the music you can throw money into whatever the musician is using for collection. Andy's done it before w/ Charlie on the sax, and there's an accordian player, a piper, a one-man-band and loads more busking in durham, usually.

Yes, please, please, please! You must have a beautiful singing voice if you were hired to work at the famous castle/inn. You musn't keep it from us. We'll pay the equivalent of many pounds sterling in forum gratitude and compliments if you will grace us with your singing.

But I'm absolutely serious. When you told us of the job you got, I immediately thought that of what a privilege it would be for us to hear you sing. A quality inn like that certainly must be particular about who is allowed to sing to the guests.

So, we'll wait patiently.... :)

And I'm backing JackieB up on this one- it would be really nice if we could hear you sing!

Bummer it was such a lousy weather day for you, though!

Well, OK then...I'll see what I can do when we get back to school. Get someone to play an accompaniment :3

Yeah, that's my place o' residence :)
(actually I believe students of Durham University can rent out some rooms in the castle - ones in towers/turrets are more expensive than other rooms, but that would be so cool :) shame Durham doesn't offer vet studies, really.)

Ooh, I'd quite like to drive all over England! I'm up in the North East, in County Durham. The nearest city (apart from Durham) is Newcastle, and south of us is York.
I've been to London once since I was 18 months old - I lived there until then - it was jolly cold because I went in October  I really want to go back though ^_^ do the London Eye this time.

Kitty, you don't live far from James Herriott's hometown of Thirsk!!!! Have you read his books? When I read them in college, he was still practicing veterinary medicine and accepting visitors one day each week. I wanted to travel to England just to visit with him, but I didn't. I've since been to England twice.

I loved his books. What a kind man. Are you going to be a veterinarian?

By the way, I saw in your photo album that your dad flies radio control gliders. I do, too. I'm working on a big one with a 10 foot wingspan that I'm hoping to finish in December. I'll post a picture of it to show to your dad. If you go with him sometime, post a video or a few pics, please. :)

I've read a couple, a while ago. I do love the idea of James Herriot...or rather, Alf Wight...I'd certainly love to be a country vet, but especially, of course, an equine vet. People are forever telling me about putting animals down and having to let fall warnings on deaf ears, but if I were put off by that I don't think I'd have taken the A-levels I'm studying now!!

I'll PM you some video links, my dad has a whole youtube channel devoted to his modle planes. :)
