How awful. I sure hope they catch them. I just don't understand some people and how they can be so cruel.

That makes me so mad. I don't understand people. I don't know what I'd do if that happened to my horse.
That's disgusting! :( I truly hope they find whoever did this.
"Horses are like family members to a lot of people," Tietz says. *sigh*
That's up there with, "We've had a brutal winter. They shouldn't be on the outside. They're animals that live--this is just not good for them," said Hay. <-- On horses living outside.

I'll be watching this story closely for updates..... I sure hope they find out who did it. Being it was so late at night/early in the morning, makes me wonder if it was maybe someone coming from a bar, if so perhaps people may have seen that same car or maybe know of something.....

I hate this. And from that last article - they are headed my way... Barron is right across the road from me... so only a county away.
Just so scary that no one has any idea who it is.

That's horrible! The law really needs to catch up with whoever's doing this!

I sure hope someone recognizes his car or something..... so now it sounds as if there are six horses dead, and cows as well..... Unbelievable. And one horse was only 100 feet away from the house....

Well, that is probably a good thing because now he'll be considered a danger to humans. That should help the sentencing if/when he's caught.

Ugh, Renee, that's not good at all. I hope they catch them (or him or her) but I really don't know if they can, sounds like some of these people aren't realizing their animals are hurt until a few days later. Also, if someone wakes up to hear gunshots, by the time they get to where they can see.... the car would already have driven away.
Prairie Farm isn't that far from me. I wonder if it's teenagers thinking they're "cool" or what else it is....
The only thing that comforts me for our horses is that they are quite bit away from the road, tucked behind the garage and some trees and they do spend their time in their run in at night - so they wouldn't be able to be seen from the other direction either.

Sounds like your horses are tucked away far enough from the road, that's good.
It's going to be tough to find out who did it, unless someone comes forward who knows something, that's what I'm hoping for...

That is just awful. My own mare was shot and killed a couple years ago. I guess it's fortunate that none of the other horses in the same pasture were shot.

Horrible! Sunday's Man and I worry about Friday and Saturday nights..Our horses can get pretty close to the road and they are White and easily seen. Sad for all of the horses, but especially for a 24 year old to end her life that way.
AppyLady..sorry you had to experience this sort of thing.

It's this kind of stuff I fear most because as prepared as we try to be to defend against any threat, natural, human, or otherwise, you can't predict or defend against random. And it probably is just random, pointless mischief by kids who are just bored and wicked.
I've thought a lot about the way we punish crime in this country, and it almost seems like we consider spontaneous acts of random violence somehow less criminal than crimes that are premeditated, personal or hateful. And I'm not sure that should be true. It's the random acts of strangers we're least able to defend against... the guy who actually hates me I usually know... and I can look for him and see him comin, at least... a lot easier than I can see every passing car.
I dunno... just musing.
