 I hate Entrepreneur class. Our teacher is forcing me to work in the school store. She says that we all took the class and we all need to participate. Now keep in mind that most everyone me included took this class for one of two reasons. 1. To make money on Entrepreneur Day in the spring or 2. To fill up our schedules. I have absolutely no desire to work in the school store and I don't think it's fair that she's forcing me to work there when there are other students who have never worked in the store at all and don't do work in class either. Now there are 4 reasons why I don't want to work in the school store 1. I'm not very good at counting back change (though most of the things are priced pretty evenly), 2. I can't write receipts 3. I don't trust anyone in my school to not steal anything while I'm in there and 4. I don't want to give up the small amount of time I have for relaxing and chatting with my friends.

And then at the end of class she started yelling at us telling us the sophomores need to shape up so we're on the level of the upper classmen which is totally unfair because a lot of the upperclassmen goof off during class too. AND we're getting a seating chart tomorrow.

Thanks for listening to my vent. I'm soooo dreading tomorrow.

I hate to be tough on you horserider, but I'm afraid I'm with your teacher on this one. It's good experience and helpful in ways that you probably aren't thinking of at the moment. I recommend adopting a really positive attitude and treating each student who comes through the store with a great deal of respect since they are your customers.

I know exactly what it sounds like to have an older person saying "this will be good for you". I hated it sometimes when I was your age, especially since my dad would laugh and mock my protests at times. That was rude and didn't help our relationship much. So, I want to be sensitive to your concerns, but please try to make the best of it if you can and do treat those students with respect. They are your customers.

There is a saying that I learned at about your age and I've accepted the importance of it for my entire career - "There is only one reason why a business exists - to serve its customers." So the fact that you have to work in a store when you really don't want to, will be a good, albeit small, challenge for you to embrace this philosophy like a true entrepeneur.

Hello! Just know that this time of your life passes by so quickly. Take it in stride....this will help you in the long run. You may actually "learn" how to count by change correctly! It might be a good thing.

Don't dread school....just put a smile on your face and know that tomorrow is Friday!

Hang in there!

Oh I hate my school. We've been looking forward to a class field trip to Fernbank Museum in December since August. Yesterday they told us we couldn't go after we'd got everything set up and payed for. My teacher and my parents were SO mad at our Board of Education. Thing is, our county sent the FFA students to INDIANAPOLIS last week. Keep in mind we're near Atlanta, that's a looong way and plane tickets are expensive. The FCCLA went to the Georgia Fair (2 hours away) earlier this month. The Animal Science class get's to go to the University of Georgia. The Child Education class is going to a play in December.

Oh, and get this. Their reason for not letting us go was because it was 'unfair'. Pssshhhtt. That whole class is Juniors/Seniors. BOTH the Junior/Senior class right now have been GIPPED of all our field trips. In middle school we were suposed to go to Jekyll Island for a week to learn about marine life, we didn't get to go! We were suposed to go to Rock Eagle (4-H Center) for a week, we didn't get to go. All classes before and after us got to go.

sorry to say this but if you took the class them you need to do the work. to me working in a school store does not sound all that bad, what till you have to work for real in a job you hate but its all you can get. counting back change is really easy with this trick. say someone buys something and after tax is $13.76 and they give you a $20 just count the change to make $13.76 to $20, so you start with $.24 to make$13.76 into $14 then $6 to add up to $20, just count from the total to what they gave you. writing receipts sucks, just put amount, name, price for each thing dont have to get fancy just keep it simple, most people toss them anyways. if you are worried about people stealing then ask your teacher to have 2 or more people working and have someone on the floor(where everything is) "dusting" but mainly walking around talking to people and watching. people are less likely to steal if they have someone "helping" them find something. and relaxing, well that is what sleep is for. it wont be that hard, working in stores is fun sometimes, i spend more time talking and BSing with people that come into my work than anything else. i do work i just talk a lot while doing it. lol

Yeah that's what my mom said when I complained about it to her. I hate the "it's good for you. it will build character" speech. I'm sure something that makes me what to skip school is good for me. Anyway I'll try to deal with it. The only good news is I know most everyone in my grade at least. Our teacher didn't say anything about forcing anyone else to work or asking anyone else to work with me so I doubt anyone will be there to help me.

Money's tight in my school too on the field trip budget right now. In 6th grade my class went on a week long trip to camp and a weekend trip to Chicago. My class was the last to do both. This year's 6th graders only got to go to camp for 3 days and I heard that they're taking the 8th graders on a trip to Washington D.C. (which I would love, but I'm not in 8th grade) to make up for missing their Chicago trip.

See ya later. Maybe I'll come with an update tomorrow.

Sorry I vote for learning how to make change. You are young, and unfortunately crap happens and you might need to get a job in a grocery store to support yourself. Being able to make change and balance your drawer is an ESSENTIAL skill. I work in a hardware store and the old guys are slower than molasses. Guess who had to put in a 9 hour day during their grand opening? ME. Because I have been a cashier for years and years and done the books too.

I won't buy anything from you, and your enterpreunership unless you can make change and write out an invoice. Sorry.

Ok, Ok everybody!!! Your right as usual. :o I had the greatest day today!!! In Entrepreneur class we went to the library to do our speeches (really short and easy), but people had to keep stopping because the little kids kept going through the library in their costumes and they were soooo cute. Anyway they were walking through and one of them said (I don't know why) "What's a gangster?" We laughed so hard I fell backwards in my chair which was even funnier! And they're teacher was like no, no don't tell them so we didn't of course.

Working in the store wasn't so bad because it took me a while to get there and when I did the first two people to buy anything my teacher just filled out the receipts for them and gave them the money. After she left no one else came in so I was able to leave pretty easily.

The rest of the day was even better. I got candy in two classes and just basically had a pretty good day. And I saw the boy I like after school and he looked at me and I looked back. :o Tonight I'm going to the big football game. The town even put off trick-or-treating until tomorrow because of the game! I hope the boy I like is there... :innocent:
