This is the third cycle with my new farrier. We opted to leave Bay's shoes on all winter so he can keep working on it.

I think they look pretty good, but what do I know :cowboy:.

Bay had gotten quite run forward with the previous farrier.

This is the left front. Most of my pictures of the right foot came out blurry but I think it looks essentially the same.

Little doe wandered through while we were taking pictures. :)

How well I remember last year! They sure look close to his frog, especially on one side...
I guess shoes make sense in the winter for Washington, but in snowy Ohio--no shoes, no ice balls!

They are except they aren't. I took that straight down shot of the heel in the attachments so you could see it's not touching.

The farriers may know better but I think the goal was to leave enough heel sticking out that it will offer support and hopefully let the heel come back, but he bent them in so maybe Bay won't step on them.

I told him Bay doesn't overstride and has never pulled a shoe off (knock on wood)

Also not really apparent in photos is he rolled the toe up.

He gets ice balls a bit, but so do the barefoot horses. They pack up for a few strides and then fall out. I've never thought the shod horse was any worse for them than the others.

Below... here's a snowball he hucked at me.... See that?! Caught in mid air ;)
