Well the pictures are no good.. But she is a 13 year old 15hh QH, she is laid back, safe trail horse. Been there done that. So is she worth looking at? Oh her neck looks a bit funny to me.. Maybe its just the way the pictures are taken.. I don't know.

You want a good safe trail horse or a good neck? :)

Actually, I don't have a problem with her neck and from what I can see, she's a pretty good looking horse.

I think her neck looks funny because she is a chunky girl! I think she is a worth a look and a ride......

I agree with the others! I would definitely give her a look.

And I also think she has a cute head.. I just love her face!

Definitely worth a look. As for the neck- good trail horses don't have to win beauty contests, and actually, it doesn't look that bad.

That tack looks so messy to me! She looks really thick but if she's a good trail horse that's all that matters.

On a side note, does that kid have something in his mouth or what? It looks weird..

I like her! You might ask them why they have a tie-down on her. Is it just for looks, or does she toss her head?

I don't see anything wrong with her neck. I don't insist on perfect conformation on a trail horse anyway.

I like her, she looks a little out of shape. but worth the look and a test ride.

I think she is a very nice looking mare, I'd go look at her. But agree with AppyLady and I'd ask why they have a tie-down on her. Ask them to take the tie-down off and ride her for you so you see how she goes without it perhaps. Her neck looks just a little thick perhaps, but it is a nice-shaped neck...maybe she just has a few extra pounds on her (not a bad thing tho seeing as winter is coming up). If a horse has a nice disposition and is a quiet on trails, that is better than near-perfect conformation.....I think she is nice looking tho!

I think she is pretty. To me though, her neck shows signs of founder, check it out. Thats pretty thick. I hope its just the pics. I dont like that top line of it though. I watch Mysts all the time.
You know when I bought Myst, they told me they rode her with a tie down too. Not sure why cause she dosnt need it. Some people just put all the tack on just cause. I hope she is as calm as she looks in the pics.

Nice looking girl, I'd take her for a test ride

Side note Kzeiger, he's got a chew in.....

I think the thickness in her neck may have more to do with the tie down than of founder. Tie downs, if she leans on it, create that extra muscling in the underside of the neck... an 'upside down' neck like she has a bit of. A founder-prone or IR horse would have a cresty appearance on the top of the neck. She doesn't have much of that. So I'd guess it's the tie down, but she is a little on the heavy side anyway.

She can be trained out of needing the tie down, probably. Look to the flexing exercises promoted by C Anderson and mentioned in a few threads here.

I will vouch for the being able to train out of the tie down. After a few weeks of working with him with some help from the forum, we are ready to try with out ours. I think she's a nice looking mare, definately worth a look and a test ride or two. And I agree with WB about her neck, it may be from bracing against the tie down. Builds muscles in the wrong direction.

See, Im seeing the cresty top line, wasnt aware of the bottom of her neck. Myst gets cresty that way.
Id check it out. To me the top side just dosnt look right. Her whole neck dosnt. Id check with your vet.

I think her neck looks that way due to being a bit overweight, and also by the way they've been riding her.

Let us know if you go look at her, I think she's a real nice mare!!

I'm with you Vick, the top of her neck looks awfully hard to me, and she's getting on up to the age where IR will start to rear it's ugly head if it's going to. She's needs to lose at least a couple hundred pounds to be safe. Hopefully if she did that the crest would go down. I know that a lot of people can get rid of their type II diabeties by simply losing weight and Keeping it off. So if you bought her, you might have to really exercise her and watch her diet to keep her healthy. If you want to be able to turn her out on a pasture 24/7 and feed her normal feed she might not be your best choice.

Well, I'll concede that some do see her as cresty. So keeping her weight down is a good idea regardless. :)

Yes, weight down is a good thing. Does anyone know if, in this case, a neck sweat would help????

I wouldn't think so. It's not the crest ITSELF that's the problem, it's the overall weight. The crest is just a symptom. And now that I think about that statement, it's not the WEIGHT, it's the excess FAT.

Got cha. Makes sence.

In my experience, and I did use full neck sweats when I was showing, neck sweats only help remove water in a very temporary way, temporary as in hours you can count from when it's removed. They don't remove fat or change the shape in any kind of permanent way.

Aww, thanks, never used one, so I didnt know.
Yet another class by WB...lol:)

I think if she were on a grass hay diet, very limited grain....and was ridden correctly so she'd not develop those muscles underneath her neck....that neck would really improve. She's a nice-looking mare.

Hey thanks everyone for the replies, I just called the guy and asked him about the tie down and things like that... Well he said she needed a tie down because she likes to keep her head up high. I was under the impression that she was a very broke horse, but he said she is green. He said she was trained before, then was used as a brood mare, and now she is broke again. He said she shouldn't be left out with out being worked for long periods of time. But he said she is a really good trail horse, and rides on the trail, road and by the highways..etc. hmmm.. We'll he is going to call me tonight and see when we can meet.

OH and the reason she is so fat is because she is out in the pasture 24/7...
And she is alittle hard to catch when she doesn't know you. We'll at my house she would learn
really quick that she has to come in every night to get her food..

I'd go look at her too....altho I would question, and wonder, what he means by "not leaving her worked for long periods of time"....I could leave my horses for months (had to a couple times) and when I rode them again they were just fine, so I'd ask him to elaborate a bit on that a bit. Maybe by that he just means she needs a little refresher course and is otherwise OK. If she keeps her head up too high, it sounds as if she didn't get the proper training when she was started under saddle. Ask him to ride her without the tie-down for you...and watch and see if she is a head-tosser or tries to evade the bit....but it sounds as if she never was really trained right and they just threw a tie down on her. Well, anyway.....just my 2 cents, lol. I hope she works out for you!

Well, IMHO, you already have a greenbroke project horse who needs training and regular work. If I wanted another one, I'd want this one to be your "Steady Eddie" that can get you out on trail, any time, any where, who will help build your confidence, not challenge it.

I agree. Make SURE this horse would be something you want!

Are you going to have two horses? That's cool!!! Good luck! If you need help looking let me know, I can find out if there are any lesson horses for sale from my trainer or someone. :)

My concern is the fact that she is ridden in a tie-down, but also the fact that she looks to be sweating in the photo. Did they have to work her that much to get her to calm down for decent photos? Just something to keep in mind if you do go look at her.

This was my thought too. Why the tie down? Otherwise she is worth the look.
