Ok folks, I have no job and neither does my husband! And we have supported 2 horses for two months on our savings. We drive 30 miles one way to look for work. I have unemployment, Bob does not...
Here is the kicker!! I took a temp to permanent job, and was let go after NINE, count em, nine days! The assignment was until the end of the year at least. I am hearing impaired but I could not hear the instructor very well. So guess who gets to take a loan out against the truck to buy new, state of the art hearing aides?? I hate the behind the ear version, but unless I want to have a moron job I need them. The aide that I have is in the ear but its not powerful enough. Bob and I said we'd stick them on with duct tape...since behind the ear aides never stay put.
Its been a long day... :poo:

huh. I was going to say that no one wants to comment and then I saw a link up on top - "is digital hearing aides right for me?" Whats up with that Washington? I have a digital hearing aide already...just not the behind the ear model. (sighs)

ugh... I know how frustrated you must be. My mom went almost completely deaf at the age of 50. She now has to wear a hearing aid in most situations!
I'm sorry ya'll are having to go through this, you'll be in my prayers! I hope ya'll can find something soon!

When you apply for a job you need to let them know that you are hearing impaired and they are required by law to provide accomadations for you within their limits. I would check with the local chapter of American Diabilities and find out exactly what the employer is required to provide for you. Depending onthe reason that you were let go you may be able to get some monetary compenation. Also ask about financial assistance for the new hearing aides. You never know what the answer will be. I wish you luck... and seriously look into financial assistance. It is worth it.

Heh... the ads are based on keywords on the page wherever they can so it's picking up on your mention of hearing aids and running a related ad is all... it's not a plot. :)'
Sorry about being let go. I do hope you can find another one soon that works out better.

Sorry you were let go. Sending good thoughts for you to find a job that fits you and your hearing. With or without the new ones.

I'm so sorry you have to go thru that......I have been finding out the temp job agencies are not the greatest, I have had a couple jobs thru temp agencies and it seems like they quite often say one thing and do another. I would call and ask if they legally can let you go for that, it sort of sounds a little like discrimination to me.

I should qualify for Vocational Rehabilitation funding, IF there is any funding to be had. They paid for about 3/4 of the cost of my last hearing aide 5 years ago. Of course, the Vocational Rehab counselor was not in his office today and closed out my records after 4 years...so we will have to start another case file. Point being, its a bit hard to look FOR a job if you cannot even hear the interviewer.
Oh - did I tell you the hearing aide that I USED yesterday is NOW not working at all? Not worth fixing really - $200 - $300 which could go towards my 25% of the new one
I was working through a temp agency. They cannot FORCE the company to keep me. Yeah its discrimination, but what can I do? I wasn't too crazy about the job anyway but it paid well and would have gotten me through the winter. Like Remali said, the temp agencies say one thing and its not the truth. It sounds like temp to permanent but once you get there and talk to the company you are working for, its not~~~ and they have no room for us on the floor so we would have been working in the conference room the entire time! I gave up a local job for this one also.

I never thought about that.....a temp agency cannot force the company to keep you. I've signed up with quite a few temp agencies around here, some are so frustrating, and some aren't too bad. Vocational Rehab is a very good idea.....I went thru them back in the early 1990's after I hurt my back, they helped re-train me. Hang in there, things will get better for you!

Well today Bob went to work, after taking 2 months off. Delivering pizzas. Well, he looks cute in his red and black uniform and he is making money. Not a lot of money, but money nevertheless. 37 years old. Has delivered before and thinks he will make good money. Better than Caseys I guess.
have been offered a seasonal position at Target in the bakery. I like working in the bakery, done it before, better than cashiering that is for sure. I hope I will be getting 40 hours a week. Ordered a new hearing aide for $1100, mom will pay for it. I feel like an ass but mom said my sisters have been getting money too.

Good for both of you!! Like I was just saying to someone today, right now any job is a good job....around here so many people are getting laid off. Another company just laid off 52 people where I live. Target would be a fun place to work at I think. I had an interview today, I decided to go for something totally different and maybe get away from doing data entry for a while....so I applied for a house keeping job at a nearby hotel and convention center. Hoping I get it because it would be so nice and close for me....I was so bummed when the temp agency let me go a few weeks ago....I was so sick with that stomach flu tho and missed 3 days of work, and being a temp job they wanted someone there at all times, well, can't do that when you have the stomach flu and fever and all that nasty stuff....so they let me go. Just as well I guess, altho it was a fabulous job it was still a temporary job and maybe would not have worked into permanent anyway.
That was nice of your mother to do that....hey, that is what family is for, don't feel bad at all. Heck one friend of mine her mother and dad bought her a house.....lol......a little over the top if you ask me....but, that is great your mother is there to help you....family should do that for each other.

I applied at a hotel for housekeeping and the pay was minimum wage - $7.25 an hour in Iowa and 6 MONTHS until I'd be eligible for insurance. The manager was in the National Guard and had NO clue what a 401K or what type of benefits they offer. I was flabbergasted!! At least I'd be paid more at Target. Funny thing - no kids in their Deli or Bakery - YIPPEE, and you get paid more. I had to work with teenagers when I was in the Deli at Econofoods. So they have a different approach and I will probably run into some folks from Nash Finch...which is good. Loved Nash Finch but they went bankrupt more or less.
OH, I worked at Yellowbook for 5 years. Read in the paper today they are laying off 100 employees. So I left a few months early... I had my drug test at a private agency. She has an office and uses a public restroom to give drug tests - just hangs a sign on the door! Weird huh? I was thinking - must not be a lot of overhead in this job...buy some specimen cups and mailing labels and be done with it.

Some house keeping jobs around here pay lousey too....I didn't even ask what the job paid....but I bet it isn't much....I figured tho I would save a lot in gas at least, if I got the job, it is only about 3 miles away for me.
There is another job I applied for, light office cleaning at a pharmacy....and it pays $9.85, so that is a bit better....but I am still flabbergasted at the low wages that are still out there. I could get paid quite well if I got a job for what I went to school for, but there is absolutely nothing out there right now for Coding or medical records.

Glad that things are doing alright for you now. A job is better than no job and it sounds like the Target one could be a good one for you.
