I thought I'd ask everyone to say a prayer for us in the morning - Papa's first chemo appointment is at 9:45. The chemo itself is supposed to last 3 hours (so we're figuring we'll get out of there around 2). We're leaving the house at 9 (so I'm going to try to be over there around 8:30), I'm taking homework and a good book!
After this first time I'm going to be the only one going, so we're hunting out all the good places to take a nap. I probably won't be doing much napping (I'll probably wind up sitting with Papa doing homework and reading). Apparently you don't get as sick if you eat during the chemo (tip from the other grandmother) and chew on ice (the ice keeps the blood vessels constricted, so it keeps the taste of chemo out of your mouth:(, tip from my uncle!)... so I have to find ice machines and where the best food is located. :)
Thanks ya'll! :cowboy:

Prayers to your Papa. I used to go with my mother when she had her chemo, I'd take along a book or magazine to read. My mother never got sick from her chemo treatments, but it did make her very tired afterwards. Let us know how Papa is doing.

Good luck, to you and Papa.
Perhaps if he turns out to tolerate it well you can begin a tradition of playing a card game during that time.
Like Remali's report, most of my mom's treatments didn't make her overtly sick, but she would be rather tired afterwards.

Prayers for your family! Ditto on the distractions. Games are a good tradition to start during these times. Doesn't leave too much time for dwelling on everything and whats going on.

Thanks so much ya'll! It's been a crazy day, but we and the doctor expect Papa to take the treatments really well (something about being run over by the tractor and not losing consciousness once ;)). Papa was a little tired afterwards, we picked up lunch and went on home... then I went and voted, picked up his prescriptions and groceries for he and Nana, then picked up his supper ('cause by then it was five o'clock) and went back home.
I'm really praying that the treatments don't make him ill, that'll make things a lot better. I have already threatened to chase anyone who is sick away from the house with a pitchfork if I have to. :D
When Nana stops going with us then it'll be much more laid back... she adds a certain amount of stress to any situation like that. We'll probably hang out and discuss politics and read together. :cowboy: Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers, they mean the world to us!
