I love it when Dakota doesn't act his age

[Dakota Sunrise]

It was really cold yesterday (and still is), in the low teens and single digits with it dropping down below zero last night. I went out around 3:00 to put extra straw in the goats' shelter, give everyone fresh water because it had frozen solid, and put extra blankets on the horses. Since we now have snow on the ground and I anticipate more coming soon, my wagon (I use it for hauling hay and blankets, etc) has been put away for the winter and my sled has now taken over.

When Dakota saw me with the sled walking down the fenceline he thought it was dinner time. I tried to explain to him that it was too early for supper and he had to wait until 5:00, but he wasn't very understanding. In fact he threw a tantrum.:innocent:

My babies together :) It was funny because Beauty just stood there watching him in the whole time while he ran around and bucked like a crazy horse. He also rolled twice and then chased her around because he's the Alpha Male.:rolleyes:

When he was finally done being a crazy horse I took them down to the hitching post to get their extra blankets on. They all ready had their medium weight blankets on but since it was going to be so cold I wanted them to have an extra layer. I put Dakota's new blanket (the one I got from Patriot Dreamer and Mystery Person:)) on him first and then Beauty's old 75" over it (it's too small for her, but too big for him to wear without the extra layer, so this actually worked out perfectly) and he was good to go. Beauty unfortunately didn't get her extra layer on because it didn't fit under her blanket.:doh: Her 78" fits her nicely and it's perfect for her, but it's not roomy enough to fit an extra layer under, I guess she'd need an 80" or 81" for that. But she seemed comfortable with just her medium weight so I guess she's okay.

Both of your horses look very nice. I'd say Dakota has more SB than QH in him.

natisha: Thank you.:) And yes, Dakota definately looks and acts more like the Saddlebred part of him. As for the slinkies, both the horses are wearing them and all three of us like them a lot.:D The horses are comfortable and I like that the slinkies keep the blankets from rubbing their chests.

Looks like they were having fun in this PA weather! Lol, Most of our snow melted off.

Mandisue: It's still cold here but it hasn't snowed much, so ours is pretty much gone too. I'm hoping for more soon, I like a white Christmas.:)
