Anyone here have a winter wedding? If so where did you hold it? I'm at a loss over where to hold the wedding. We don't want it at a church (our meeting house is really bland... its more the pratical kind, not the pretty kind), it will be too cold to be outside (February)... so what other kind of places are there?

I suck at planning so you guys are going to have a lot of input questions! LOL:p

I've been to a few winter weddings.

One was at a church and used a lot of the church's own Christmas decor and poinsettias as a theme.

The other was at one of those pretty mansions for rent, and it too, was already decorated and lit for Christmas.

I love Christmas weddings! But for February... hmmm... I got married in February - Friday the 13th actually - but we wanted sunshine so we did it in Jamaica. The only other February wedding I've been to was a valentines theme in a church. If you don't want a church though - are there any pretty mansions for rent in your area? I am in the hospitality business so I've seen a million Ballroom weddings - then you can decorate and go with whatever theme you want.

I used a grange hall for my sister;s wedding, it was in june, but the reception was indoors. It was very affordable also. It decorated up real nice! Some towns also have a community center or something like that.

Winter wedding, Vegas!!!!!!:p;)

Hehe! I wish Vegas... although I'm getting close to it with all the whinning everyone is doing . Who would have thought a wedding would be so expensive! I'm looking into golf courses (actually J. will be while I'm dress shopping tomorrow!). If worse comes to worse we can use our church building for free... they just aren't very pleasing to the eye...

What about local museums? Are there any historical sites in your area... think 'sex in the city' library wedding. Down here they've taken alot of old buildings like warehouses and old train stations and made them into wedding halls! Any local large/nice hotels.. many of them have great banquet rooms for weddings! What about another church... I know back home some of the more historical churches would allow anyone to rent it, not just members.

hmmm... that about all i can come up with right now!

Man I sure know about cost, i paid for almost all of my sisters wedding last june. Ouch!! IT made my poor credit card hurt allot. It was really expensive and I cut her off at allot of corners. I can say dollar store is awsome! I got tosn of stuff for the reception there. Champayne glasses, plates, table clothes of all sorts of colors, cups, decorations, of all sorts. even big wedding bell things! It hardly cost me 50 for the reception! If I have apicture somewere I'll share turned out pretty good! It sure is diffciult to get everythign done!

I like it! After looking at prices of places to rent, I'll probably end up doing it at my church. The only problem is I really like candles and I don't think they allow candles in there... I guess there is always fake candles... I'll have to see how much that would cost. Grrr... :mad:thats the problem with short notice weddings!

I did find a few places (mainly B&B) that were within my price range but they could only accomadate 40 ppl... that's fine for the ceremony but I want to hold the reception in the same place. I'm thinking there will be more than 40 ppl at the reception.

On each of the tables is 2 candels, i found these beutiful candels and candels holders at the dolalr store. If I think about it i'll find a picture of them. THey are really nice! Short notice is difficult, but not to bad if you just be creative!

Wowsa! I wish! Unfortunately both of us are grad students that are afraid of debt and asking our parents for money (J.'s parents don't even want to come to the wedding because they think it will cost too much to come  and my parents are already buying my dress and paying for the honeymoon)! That place is drop dead GORGIOUS! (If only I had a rich unknown uncle that died and for some reason left me all his money...)

What about Mexico? I've heard it's very reasonable.

Money was one of the reasons we did Jamaica... coupled with being in the business and having no desire to plan another event. My parents gave me a set amount of money and after really playing with a budget it just made sense to have the wedding and honeymoon be the same event... it was $5,000 for both of our airfare, six nights in a suite, all inclusive meals, drinks and activities, the wedding ceremony on the beach, the cake and the flowers - we just paid extra for photographs and a video and that was only $200. Because we did still want to "share" with more people (there were only eight of us in Jamaica) we came back and did a fairly cheap reception ($2,000) for 120 people in Seattle where we served Jamaican food and showed the video. By todays standards it was fairly inexpensive.

That is where we are going on our honeymoon, but the only ones in our family that could afford to be at the wedding is my parents. Both of us would like some family there.

A friend of mine did the same thing as sedona. She got married in Hawaii and had it vided taped then had a reception when she got back and had hawian food and played the video and some picutres were running a screen in the back. Was pretty neat!

Go online to Oriental Trading Company and look at their Wedding Section. They do have battery operated Candles, if you need them. But also they have a little section of Wedding Planning Tips you can look at. They are very inexpensive.

You can make your Church Wedding just as beautiful as anywhere. Are there any Hotels around? They would have a meeting room. Any businesses in the area? Somethimes they have large meeting rooms.

Does anyone you know have a house big enough? Home Weddings can be beautiful and romantic.

I like AUEquine's idea of looking for an Old Historical Church.
