I hope everyone is having a nice and responsible New Years Eve! I'm working but I took a minute to run outside with my camera and get a shot of the last full moon of the decade! Just happens it's a Blue Moon to boot!! Very cool!!

Beautiful picture, its raining here so we don't get to see the moon tonight. I think that picture makes up for it though :)

Your camera is great EW. I tried to take a picture too...not much luck in getting a clear shot. This is the best I could do.

Thanks everyone. You probably don't need my camera! Most cameras with any sort of manual control can take this image. You can't let your camera think for itself when shooting a bright object in the dark. . cause left alone to it's own devices my camera would have seriously overexposed the moon. . .and you would just think it was a bright white ball in the clouds (that's if you could have seen the clouds) For starters, this image was taken with an ISO of 1600 (just cause that's what I had it set on when I went out there) Aperture was f/4.5 (which is the lowest it goes with the lens I was using) and the exposure length was 1/40seconds. And this was hand held. . . (not recommended) and at 168 mm focal length. Typically you need a tripod for any shutter speed under your focal length. So I should have shot a faster shutter speed to avoid the minor blur I caught but I didn't want to freeze my tushy off an set up a tripod. . . so I'll live with the blur! lol Anyways, all that was just technical mumbo jumbo that means if your camera has manual control, you should be able to get moon shots no problem!

I don't think it has manual control. It has multipule settings (children, night, fireworks, etc.) but I don't see where it has any other manual control.

OK I'm going to have to remeber your settings and try again. I did put mine on manual and I sat the shutter speed to the lowest I could. I'm not sure what my ISO was sat on. I'll try again tonight and see if I can get it any better. You are right about the "auto" settings. All I got was a bright ball. You are so good at this. I wish I had your skills. :)

Beautiful picture. :) My husband and I went for a walk right at sunset and as we were walking we saw another wide golden orb rising. It was the moon! It was gorgeous, soft and golden, coming up over the blanketed white hills. We were at my parent's house out in the country and it was serene and beautiful. Plus, the moon always looks HUGE when it's first rising. ;)

A beautiful photo!!!! I am clueless when it comes to cameras and picture taking but you did a great job! I'd have this one framed and on my wall.
