It's nasty cold in the upper Midwest this morning! I bet Gypsy Rose can elaborate on it more, I think they got down into the Arctic temps last night, like -34* below! I'm not sure what it got down to last night, I was out of it last night with the stomach flu so stayed in bed most of the afternoon and last nite.....but this morning it's a balmy -10* below zero at 10:30 a.m.! :(

More like 36 below! Luckily, no windchill. Actually, last winter was worse. We had days like this with windchill, as well.

Good thing I didn't try to get pics today!:)

Yup its horrible, in Illinois we have windchill. Without windchill its around 7-11 degrees .

We were in the teens below zero here. Our expected high temp is around zero. It's supposed to stay this way for a few days.

I wish my grand parents had settled someplace a little more temperature friendly. I'm so tempted to leave here when I retire in 3-4 years but all my family is close to here.

I sure can relate to wanting to move.... in fact some day I'd love to move, anywhere but here.....LOL.
I always liked the Colorado Springs area, winters are pretty mild there, especially the eastern areas. I just can't handle the below zero temps any more and the constant gray skies.

It is now a whopping 8 below....think I have you all beat, lol!

But I would rather lose this one, lol!:hysterical: Strange way to run a competition- the loser is the winnner... did that just make any sense?:p

I'm with ya.... this is one competition I would rather lose too..... it never got above -2* today.... Some people are sick of the rain and gray skies where they live..... I will gladly take that over 20 to 30 below any day!! lol. Trade anyone?!!! :)

I am so sorry. I would never make it. Seriously. I get depressed when it's in the 40s here. I don't know how to dress warm enough to live somewhere like that!

It's about -31* out here right now. Last night was about -40*. This hasn't been a very *cold* winter for Alaska.

How cold does it actually get up there, anyway?

That just blows my mind. How can a human being withstand such cold. I refuse to come out of the house I'm so cold. It's 20F. My poor husband had to feed the horses past 2 days. I think my blood would turn to ice if I went out there. I don't do cold. I'm cold if the temps drop under 70F.

Here's one you'll love, then! Last winter, whe it was so cold all the time, I remembered to keep the cupboard door open under the sink- it gets pretty drafty under there. I forgot last night...

Consequently, the hot water pipe froze, though luckily didn't bust. Left the door open and put a heater in front of it, and ha hot water back by 3. Had to haul water for Gypsy from the tub, so it's highly unlikely I'll forget to do that again. Supposed to get down to 27 below tonight....

In the months December,January,February it is the coldest usually. It gets into the -50's and even to like -60* some winters. Unless you have an indoor arena, winter isn't really a riding season up here.

Oh my gosh!! Guy Fieri did a show from your town! You have some yummy looking food!! However I would have to visit in Summer cause I (as mentioned numerous times) do not do cold period. I freeze my tushy off in anything under 75.

ha yeah I saw that episode. I did not expect to see the Elves Den on the show. That place is really run down and barely anyone goes there. Pagoda is the most popular restaurant in town, it's great! The summers here are beautiful, I love them so much.:)

:jawdrop:
OMG! I have experienced -40F before and I honestly wanted to die. The corners of my eyes, nose and mouth froze. The scarf I was breething in to was a chunk of ice. The skin on my hands cracked and every little crack would bleed - especially my knuckles.
I am absolutely positive that at -60F I would die. My body is not designed to handle such cold. Why would anyone want to live in such conditions?

:rant::rant: I want summer!!!:rant:

It is 13 right with wind gusts up to 40 mph...thanking the stars for the new windows and new insulation so the breeze no longer blows right through my house. My horses usually wear their blankets for a week total year...they have only have them off for a week this year between the rain, cold and wind.

I don't know what I would do in such cold weather.
There was a time in my life when I was actually considering relocating to Wisconsin, I'm certain that if I had done that I would be hibernating in the heated house during the winter. Going outside would not be an option!
I won't even tell you guys what the weather has been like here. It would too mean!
