View Full Version : Frustration - Bandit not leaving tomorrow
Argh. I thought I had a good home lined up for Bandit and he would have been leaving tomorrow. However I got an e-mail today saying that due to certain circumstances that she does not have the money for the gas. Now she was getting a free horse and the only thing she had to pay was the gas for us to get him there. I thought that was being extremely fair. However, she wanted to know if we would still deliver him. Umm...No.
So he is looking for a home again. Any takers??

Oh my gosh. That is just asking for gimme gimme gimme. When I gave Storm away, fuel was the only cost that was paid to me, and unselfishly. Not sure how that lady was gonna feed Bandit if she cant afford fuel, so Im thinking this was a good thing for Bandit.
I sure hope you find a good home for him.
Got pics?
That is what it seemed like to me - glad someone else saw it the same way. If they can't pay for the gas - then what about not just food but wormer, vaccines, or an emergency? We were already going out of the way and going to pull the trailer with our truck - my original terms were pick-up only, but thought this might give me a chance to see his new home. Oh well - things work out for a reason.
I have video and pics. Here are some videos:

Ya, I hear ya. I took Storm half way, but only gave him to someone I knew could care for him.
I like his eye, he sure is a pretty boy. If I had room, and money for another horse, Id help ya out.
I sure hope you find the right place for him.
Id put him out here, another forum, where you know people, and you can search out their threads/posts, see how they handle horses in certain situations. I couldnt of found a better home for Storm, he has gone from low man on the totem pole to boss man. I also have a forever friend in Dixie.
Good luck in finding him a home.

I hate when people back down last min.
He is way cute! If you weren't so far away I would take him. Could you PM or post a little background or an add on him?
Thanks Vick. :)
hph - I've had him 2 years now and he is from the BLM. I had actually adopted a different mustang (a big black boy) and this boy was a tag-a-long under the BLMs "buddy system" and from the beginning I had intentions of gentling and selling him after the 1-year period was up. However, I lost my black boy to colic after we had them 3 months - so I put more focus on Bandit and became attached to him.
He is from the Pilot Mountain, NV HMA. He is 5 years old (His freeze bar has him as a 2003 foal and the foals are usually born around June-July on the range) and 13.3 hands. He does tend to be a harder keeper than my other horses and I don't know why - I suspect its because he is more interested in what is going on around him rather than actually eating.
He is a tricky mustang. Somedays I can walk out and start petting and loving on him and halter him with no problems. I can toss ropes all over him and have pattend him down with a saddle blanket. I can lead him around, have him yeild his hind quarters and listen to body language, and back-up. However, on other occassions its almost like working with a wild horse again and I can't get near him. This tends to be a problem when I have been traveling for work and have to leave for a couple days. When I get back home its like starting from scratch. That is why he needs either a home where the plans are just as a companion horse, or where someone will have more consistant time with him with no work travel. Right now I am over a facility in another state so I do go there on over-night (or longer) trips quite frequently.
He did have a injury on his hind leg this summer - sliced the back of his hoof open across the bulbs. We had him stalled for 2 weeks and changed his bandage daily. There is a scar, but it does not effect his soundness.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

I totally agree with vicklynn--it would have been "no money for his feed" this week next.
I hope that you can find him a home soon. Wish I was closer and could afford two horses!

Sorry about the home but if she can't afford gas it seems like she can't afford a horse, either that or she's just trying to take extra advantage of you like some people tend to do.
Bandit is so pretty. His coloring is very similar to my Rompy. Romp is a Colonial Spanish Baca Chica from New Mexico. He was not born in the wild but his relatives were. There are times I think he thinks he's in the wild but most times he's like a big puppy. I never saw a horse who loves to run and play like he does. He loves to take his jolly ball [or a stick or anything] and run with it and then hit his brother. He smacks him silly with that jolly ball and Sarge just stands there too lazy to more or else he likes it!
I really hope a good home will come along for your boy. Someone who really understands the horse and who can afford him. Good Luck, he's beautiful.

aw.. he is a looker.. I think you are lucky she didn't take him. Sounds to me like they aren't financially sound enough to care for a horse right now. Good luck in finding a forever home. I am sure there is someone out there perfect for him and I wish it was me me but we are struggling with 3.

Why can't Kentucky be closer to WI??? He's GORGEOUS. That picture that Vick loves is just breathtaking! Our place is the perfect set up for him too. 80 acres, a pond.... OKAY ::slaps self on cheek:::: stop daydreaming!
Aw man - It seems like the really good homes are all a distance away. Ironic thing is we lived in WI (Racine) before we moved down here to KY.

I'm sorry it didnt work out but I'm with Vicky, if they can't afford the gas to get there, how are they going to afford the feed for him?
I really love Bandit, I've always drooled over the photos that you've posted about him. He's such a pretty guy and he looks like he's a decent mover too. With some training from the right person, I think he would be a really good horse!
I hope that you can find the right home for him, I'm sure somebody will show up. :)
Wanna move back? :p
LOL - Oh heck no! I was in a depression the whole time I lived in that state. It might have been the area we were in, but even so - I prefer the warmer temps down here. :p
Annie - Bandit is by far the best mover I have here. The videos don't do him justice. He just floats when he moves and looks like he would be an amazing ride. With his spirit and movements I could see him doing those combined 3-day events where they do dressage and jumping and such all together.

Yeah... it gets that way.. espeically in the winter. I understand! Good luck on finding him a great home.
Thanks for the luck - I may need it.
I'm confused. She now wants me to call her (got an e-mail) because she talked to her husband and he might help with the gas but wants to know how much. Now we discussed the cost of gas 2 weeks ago and gave her a price. And the other thing - don't you think she would have talked to her husband before telling me she couldn't pay for gas? I don't know, I'm not liking it.

Um... the whole thing sounds kinda shady. I don't think I would go for it unless you REALLY need to find him a new home before winter.
I would want him in a home where BOTH adults want him and are aware of the situation, etc. It just doesn't sound right, the whole thing. Go with your gut.
Well I am holding off and thinking. That was originally one of the reasons I liked this one was because I would be able to go see his home and meet everyone, but now I'm doubting.
Then to add to it Bandit was just perfect today. I had him stalled last night (we didn't introduce him to Willie yet because since he was leaving we weren't going to add that stress on top of everything). Well I haltered him no problem and lead him out to the arena so he could have some room to run and stretch his legs.
Well I pet him before I let him go and ran my hands down his front legs - still a very iffy area with Bandit. He does NOT like his front legs handled. OK with the backs, but he usually freaks out at the fronts. Well today he placed each foot in my hand as pretty as could be and held it there. Man - I wish I had my trim tools! But his feet did get a good picking out. But he did it like he had done it a 100 times before, but this was the first time he ever willingly gave me his feet like that.
Little signs of trust like that from him just make me so happy, but then back to reality - he's not staying here for too much longer.

If someone can't afford gas to move a horse how do you expect them to be able to afford to FEED a horse? That's really awful. Bandit is such a pretty horse, I hope something works out for him.
Aw, he's adorable! I'm def. not looking for an green horse, or one that small, but I've always wanted a mustang! :) Good luck finding him a home!

I completely agree! He would excell in Jumping and Dressage!! Right up my alley lol. I so wish you weren't so far away. I'm not a big fan of shipping horses...
Yes, it seems every good home is too far away. Why can't any of you live closer???

Lol no kidding, my friend has Mustang that sounds extremely similar to him. And also looks very close as well.
Do you know what HMA your friend's mustang came from?

Oh my. My ex husband is from Racine, WI....do you know the Greenwoods???
I don't know any Greenwoods (I'm not originally from there - I'm a michigander) but my husband says he went to school with a Greenwood but doesn't remember her first name. I think he is going to break his brain trying to think of it now. LOL. Small world!

Nope, she bought him from some people in the Valley that were selling him as a Andalusian... although we thought possibly Andalusian at first but now are leaning towards Mustang. He also has days where you can halter him, ride him around bareback with no halter and then other days he is hard to catch or is "scared" of the halter. He has no brand though so there isn't really anyway to find out anything.
Heres a picture, he has a really really long mane but you can't tell in this picture.

Yah, he is for sale too. He is started under saddle though. I so wish Bandit wasn't all the way over there lol
Well the original lady left a message on my phone this evening and said that she has been bugging her husband all day long about Bandit and now he is going to find a truck to borrow and come get him. Umm... I thought she had spent 2 weeks trying to find a truck to borrow to come get him and she couldn't so that is why we had to deliver him? I just get more and more confused.
This may be a moot point. Have another lady say she is going to put a deposit down on him for me to hold him while she talks to a trainer. Ooo - TRAINER. I got excited about that - he would get used instead of being a pasture pet! I need to talk to her more to find out what her plans are, but I'm already getting a better feeling about the new person. Sorry, trainer - it makes my heart sing for my boy.
