Furnace died today. I gave a guy/stranger a blank check to install a new one later tonight. Feeling a little stupid & cold. :(
Where are those hot flashes when you need them? :headscratch:

Oh my goodness, is there anywhere you can go until your house is warm again? Beware of hyperthermia. I had the heat go out in an apartment I rented and I remember closing off the kitchen and lighting the gas oven to get through the night. Take care and be safe.

I just hope I see that guy again. I have dogs to cuddle with.

Oh... I'da fillled in an amount and told him he'd get the rest when he showed up and finished the job. Blank checks can be VERY scary!!! Hope he comes back and fixes the heat for you soon!

Good Luck, we came home to no heat on Christmas Day, that was just the topper to a horrid couple of days. Thankfully it was just the switch, the neighbor kid started a furnace business so he came to fix it. We have a gas stove and a woodstove so we knew we wouldn't be cold but still it was a pain in the neck to have to call someone on Christmas Day. Hope you get the new furnace in ASAP so you'll get warm again.

Yeah, I thought of that after he drove away. I have trust in human nature or I'm a dumb ---. Remains to be seen.

LMAO...you got that right.... I'm going to be....ummm....doing a lot of running.... ;)
Stinkin' equipment. Why can't a furnace ever go out in August!?!?
Speaking of hot flashes, try this. Put on a turtleneck, two sweatshirts and a hooded sweatshirt. Then because it's pouring, pull on your rubber raincoat over that. Holy cow, that is not a good outfit for a flash. I thought I was going to have to throw myself in a ditch full of rainwater, then it, thankfully, went away. Close call.
Good luck getting that fixed tonight, natisha. Maybe you should go on a mini vacation for the night, to a hotel somewhere.

Silly girl, air-conditioners fail in August!!!:p
LOL. I saw this thread, and I was reminded of March 2009. :p My parents went to Florida of all places, and the furnace died. We ran out of oil. My dad didn't want to refill it because we were going to get Geothermal heating in September. I spent a good 5 days in an empty 10C/50F house. :D
Hope you can get it fixed soon!

Um, I just hope he showed, not so much about the heat, which would be nice, but damn, that man has her blank check....awwwwwwwwwwwwww Id call the bank just in case, give them a check number and what it is for, and to clear it with you before they cash it.

Ugh! Hope your furnace gets fixed, that's for sure! It's not exactly warm out there right now... Keeping my fingers crossed that the reason you're not on right now is that the furnace is getting fixed.....

Good news, the furnace guys are here now, hope to have heat so I won't have to sleep with them-for warmth.
Bad news- I wasn't on here because had to have vet out, all is OK, I'll start a thread about it.
Thanks for the warm wishes

I hope they don't take advantage of the situation and
charge you over $3000. and that is for a name brand furnace.
And if they can adapt your plemun and r/a ducts they should be
done in about 3 hrs. or less.
I have changed out gas furnaces myself in an hour and a half.
and it had A/C installed. (like a direct replacement).
the new hi efficentcy furnaces if gas vent with pvc pipe out the
basement wall.
they should set the furnace on bricks to prevent the bottom
from rusting out. and rubber pads on top of the bricks.

They did a temporary job just to get heat in & will be back in the next few days to complete. It sure brought the house up to temperature quickly compared to the old one. Quiet too. It is on bricks. I'll let you know the cost when I get the bill.

Time to get wood stove for back-up!!:) I considered that a few years ago but they are alot of work, well, more than I want to do.
My neighbor has one & it costs him nothing but labor to heat his house & water.
Our state Gov. is trying to ban wood burning stoves due to environmental uhh...people crying over dead trees & carbon & such. They haven't succeeded yet. I hope they never do.

Glad you are not cold any more. Our heating is not working very well either. Sometimes it does...than it stops. I woke up few times and kitchen was in 50sF We have a fireplace in the livingroom. It's awesome! It's really warm in here. :) And I love the fire.

Glad you got it fixed!
My AC blew up in July this year! You can pile on blankets and dogs for heat, but they don't do much for cooling. This is the reason I married an HVAC man and my daddy's one too! I had a brand new system in by the weekend. And my sweet husband would rig the system up to where it would run as cold as it could all night (he'd actually be freezing at the house) so that when I got home in the morning I could sleep for a few hours before the house got too hot!
Hope it's not too expensive, but I know what mine cost and that's with no labor and one that 'fell off a truck'. So good luck!

Yeah, but the furnace is getting replaced.
I must have been tired and not reading too well.
That's great that you were able to get a new furnace- they are so much more efficient, and just plain are nicer. Never would have fit one of the old ones in my house. Mine was put in in 2000, and I really like the convenionce, but I miss my wood heat! Not the labor, though....:p

I didn't realize how bad the furnace was until the guy showed me flames shooting the wrong way, burnt wires, bowed cracked things & other stuff I didn't understand. Luckily the safety devices still worked.
I'm also amazed at how evenly heated the house is now.
I'm the only one I know without a fireplace :(

My son just went through this! Only he is a renter and the landlord was slow (didn't give a s##t) about the temps or comfort of his 6 year renter. The heater was replaced 1 1/2 weeks later! In the meantime my son had six space heaters going, this was Christmas week and we had temps in the low 20's.
