I am just so completely infuriated right now that I have to vent. I realize that every single one of us here is probably struggling with finances in one way or another, but we all keep our horses anyhow, no matter what. Well, I am a nursing student set to graduate this year, and so far have been able to survive on part-time work, grants, scholarships, and loans. I quit working this fall because my clinical shifts required as part of my nursing training take up the 20 hours a week I had 'available' to work.

To make a long story short, I just found out yesterday that my student loan funds are not coming to me this quarter, and next quarter, no given explaination. I called the lending institution, they said I am approved for the loans and in good standing, credit-wise, but my college has not certified the loans. So I went to the college financial aid office and they gave me absolutely no information, I had to write a letter stating my financial need (HELLO - I was allready approved for the loans), and I can expect 7-10 days for a response from the loan counselor at the college.

So, first, what the heck has the school got to do with saying whether or not I can accept the loan funds for which I qualify? Second, why didn't I get a letter from the school stating that my loans were not being certified by them, and for what reason? Third, I don't have any clue as to how I am going to pay my bills after this month, the grant and scholarship funds cover tuition and about a month's living expenses.

The worst part is that I have a 3.9 GPA, I am in a 2-year nursing program that has selective and limited admission, and I will be graduating in June, at which point I will be able to be licensed as an R.N. It's not like I am just taking random classes, trying to suck money from whomever so that I can avoid having to work for a living.

On the bright side, I have 4 tons of hay in the barn (enough to get through till summer), cat food, and lots of people food (my BF and I do a lot of canning, etc and I keep staples stocked). I will go back to work part-time if I have to, and my boyfriend said he will help me with my bills, but I just hate to depend on him, or anyone else. I am certain that whatever is going on will resolve once I walk through all the steps of the beurocracy, but why does it have to be this way? It is just crazy.

I'm sorry...this must be so, so frustrating. I'm sure that it's just "red tape nonsense"...nevertheless, very infuriating. Just keep being the "squeaky wheel" and keep after everyone involved.

Ugh, I had to deal with soemthing like that last semester... Lots of petitioning, filling out forms, calling people who didn't return my calls or had no clue what they were doing if they did.... But it worked out in the end. Just keep at it and don;t take no for an answer. If anyone is going to put that money to good use, it's you so you deserve it.

I know how you feel. I was there when I went for my 2 year accounting and now am back again but on the other side. Now it's my boyfriend that is having the financial troubles (laid off) and he hates it that while not SUPPORTING him I am supporting him with his help. Keep your chin up and remember that if you are moving in with your boyfriend in June then you better start thinking of it as a partnership and he is happy to help you and knows that you would do the same if/should the rolls be reversed. You'll make it.

My daughter is in graduate school and the same thing happened to her. Keep hounding them until they process the proper paperwork. We need more nurses! Don't you want to just take the "red tape" and wrap it around their necks sometimes!:innocent:

I'm sorry. Definitely sounds like a stressful situation! Hope you get the loan thing figured out ASAP. Glad you have things covered on the home/horse front for the time being though.
