Go in tonight for a second sleep study. I've got sleep apnea, so they are going to see how it is now, since it's been 5 years since last study. They will also give me new machinery to sleep with.
Woke up the other morning with one of the mastiffs licking my face...guess I was snoring too loud :D
Oh joy !

I know a friend that did this awhile back, though I never asked what, if anything, changed from what they found out. But he had to go sleep at the hospital for a few nights so they could monitor him. I'm not sure I could get to sleep in that circumstance. ;)

My first sleep study, I initially fell asleep without a CPAP machine on, and they woke me up after about 30 minutes, because I was going over 45 seconds without breathing. They put the mask on me, and I never was able to get back asleep.....which is the same problem I have even at home. It's damn near impossible for me to fall asleep with the mask on. The MD told me she would give me a good sleeping pill tonight, and I WILL sleep :D

Well sleep well!!!
And waking up with a Mastiff licking you must be very wet a slimy!!! They must have been worried about you. . or at my house that means "I've got to go potty!"

Sleep apnea is usually an obesity problem but I don't think that's a case here (unless you photo shop all your pics).
One of my vets is a poor sleeper too. He had all those studies, he's in shape too. Found nothing wrong. His problem is he just can't fall asleep. I can never sleep more than a couple hours at a time, which is why you see me on the forum at all different times.
Have you seen an eye, ear, nose & throat specialist?

All those years of powerlifiting gave me in 18" neck(I'm only 5'9" and weigh a svelte 205 lbs).....so I have a very small airway. I already had a UPPP procedure, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty) which helped a little, but the apnea is still a problem.

Steve If your oxygen saturation levels & heart rate stays within normal limits is the main concern that you wake frequently & feel tired during the day?

Hope they figure it out! I was just in the hospital for my appendix, but I couldn't sleep at all! I think I got about 2-4 hours total the entire time I was there. Hopefully your sleeping pill works!

Thats the problem...I don't. When I had my colonoscopy a few months ago, as I was in recovery, my oxygen sensor alarms kept going off because I was apneaing. Danielle kept waking me up and telling me to breathe !
I commonly wake up with a racing heart rate and out of breath. I have fallen asleep at stop lights while driving.....

Steve Have you ever had a head injury? Do you feel that when you are awake you make a conscious effort to breathe?

My hubby had his nasal passages roto-rootered and lazer surgery on his throat to cut away tissue...he still snored after all of that, so he has to use the machine. I would not be able to sleep with it but he gets a great night's sleep with it. Good luck to you!

O best of luck! My fiance' has sleep apnea & once he got that cpap machine... IT WAS such a blessing! And I don't worry about him near as much & I get more sleep myself now! good luck with your 2nd study.
It seems like this problem might be fixed with something along the line of a heart pacemaker, but a breathing pacemaker instead.
I feel bad for you, Steve. It can't be pleasant to feel that tired all the time.

Good luck Steve. I've been sleeping much better with a cpap machine for a couple of years now. I took to it pretty easily but I know others that took a while to get used to it. They do make several varieties of ways to introduce the air pressure. My BIL doesn't even have a mask. Just two little tubes at his nostrils coming off the bigger tube. I'm thinking about trying just a nose mask instead of a full face mask soon.
I was diagnosed in the "severe" category when tested as I was stopping breathing 46 times per hour. That didn't make for very restful sleep. I was always tired during the day. At the time I wasn't overweight either. But I was built very similarly to you. 5'11", 220 and healthy body fat. And to think I did the weight lifting to be healthier.

My poor sinuses prohibit the use of anything nasal. I HAVE to have a full face mask. I just HATE that damn machine.......as much as I try, I just HATE it. They are going to have me take some prescription sleeping pills for awhile to help me adjust. There are some that have a very short half-life......they are in and out of you system in 35 minutes, so you're not groggy in the AM. We'll see how it goes.
