Before the holidays, my laptop crashed. It started overheating and shutting off after shorter and shorter periods of time, until it wouldn't even turn on. I was pretty upset, as it's only a year and a half old. And, since I bought it when I was 16, it was a really big deal for me, the first major purchase I ever made, deffinitely the most expensive thing I had ever bought. So I was pretty upset when it crashed so "young", but I decided to try to get it fixed...

I sent it in for an estimate and they said the mother board was toast, and it would be $500 to repair. So instead, I bought one ($220) and had my step dad put it in. Well it worked great, except the sound and wireless didn't work. A couple days ago my step dad took it back apart and got the wireless working. Awesome! Except... the next day it died again. It did the same thing as before, kept turning itself off until it wouldn't come on anymore. Grrr!

Fortunately, the company that sent it to us is giving us a refund. Unfortunately, they don't have any more so we'll have to find someplace else to buy another one, and try again. I just hope it isn't something in my computer that keeps killing motherboards! I don't know anything about fixing laptops, so I'm just trusting my step dad on this...

Hopefully soon I'll have a working laptop of my own again! Untill then, though, I'm back to sharing my step dads (which is quite annoying, as I'm taking an online class this quarter). Because of this I'm not sure how often I'll be around this forum, but I'll try to check in a couple times a week if I can.

Thanks for letting me vent!

That's a real bummer! Hope your step dad can get it fixed soon. Hopefully, nothing else overheated and died on you in the process, Like the switch, maybe?

What kind of laptop is it? How much hard drive space, RAM, and features does it have- DVD-RW, memory card reader, for instance?

With the mothrboard refund money, you're over halfway to the price of a brand new laptop.

Nice to see you back for a bit to update us, at any rate!

It's an hp pavillion 6700, entertainment issue... I'm not sure of any of the specifics . Like I said, I don't really know much about computers... I just bought the one my step dad said was the best for my money :p

Looked it up- that's a nice one! I can see why you'd want it fixed! Good luck with it.

Thanks! I just hope it doesn't keep killing motherboards :(
