Forestry Service rant

and i live here. but the house i rent site right next to FS land which is normally great because of the riding but starting tomorrow they are coming up to do some surveying and what not to bring a logging crew in to log the land. normally i would be all for that but they are bringing a crew in from Oregon to do the work when the logging company that hubby works for has been sitting home for over a year because of lack of jobs. his company is based all of 6, SIX, miles from our house. we are 20-30 miles to the Oregon border and god knows how much more it is to this logging crews yard site. instead of hiring locally for local jobs to help our community they go out of state to do a job and none of the money they pay out will help our community or state!! so for the next few weeks or until this logging job is done, i cant ride because i have nowhere to ride and hubby is going to be going crazy knowing there is work going on right next to us and CA is to stupid to hire a local company to do the work. maybe i can get one of the dogs to go take a dump on their equipment. :rolleyes:

Oh that is frustrating for you and hubby. Did you guys even know it was up for bid to be logged?

That Sucks!!! Can you write to the state and ask them why they would do something so detrimental to the community and state?

all the state cares about is the lowest bid. and because of all the taxes the CA puts on the companies, OR companies are almost always going to be able to put in the lowest bids. hubby just works for the company so he really does not know what jobs are going around. we only found out about this because its happening right next to us, and we are no longer going to be able to use our long driveway(the only one you can get a trailer or large truck up to the house with) because its on the forestry land and they keep doubling their prices to use it.

Must be a contract thing. Does govt ever do the smart thing? Not necessarily. Maybe the hubby should ponder a job with the logging company that is getting the contracts. He could at least put the feelers out. I just sayin...

If I were you, I would call up your gov't officials, every single one you can get a hold of, and complain. Spend all the time you would be riding to annoy the heck out of them and let them know you are not happy and this is not acceptable to you.
