Sorry, no pictures. As some of you might know I am struggling with both hearing aides, and finding a job. I am volunteering at a horse stable in exchange for riding lessons or arena time. Today I was done with chores, had no hearing aide at ALL because I didn't have batteries for my much older backup, and Lisa said she wanted me to ride her BLIND horse.

Then, she told me if I rode him into a WALL she would send me home!!!
I actually did ride a lesson horse into the wall once, the horse and I were having problems that day. Was she joking or not?

HEHE...so I rode him, and we did did very well I thought. She had me ride bareback because he isn't much for rein cues I guess - I had to use a different cue than I do with my horse. He still responded when I turned my shoulder etc and since he is a Tennessee Walker, he would pace or do the running walk - not sure which it was but pretty cool. He would even kick a beach ball and follow it!

So, the deaf girl and the blind horse had fun this morning.

Cool. That must have been interesting. It's amazing how trusting a horse would have to be to be willing to go like that without being able to see. Thanks for sharing!

Very cool! I know someone who rode a blind appy stallion in parades. Maybe it made him better for parades. :)

I moved your thread into the horse section. :)

That's wonderful! There used to be a very well-known Arabian stallion, a show horse, and he was blind, and he did really well under saddle. I think that is so cool that you rode him!!

He is pretty responsive actually - I have rode worse lesson horses. If he does not know what you want he won't do anything, but if you ask him to move out he goes right into his pace gait. I just stayed away from the WALL and the hay wagon that was in the arena and even did some figure eights. He is kind of dependent on his barn buddy that he is turned out with, but hey, I can't hear him neigh anyway...and he got over it if I talked to him.
