A person who lives a few towns over gave me a call today to inquire about Bandit. He admitted he didn't have much horse experience but said his wife was the "horse person" and grew up with them on a farm. They run a ministry and have several older kids and would have tons of time to work with a horse. It sounds like he would be a "family" project but would get worked with daily. The property he described sounded wonderful with many acres to run (though in the beginning I am going to highly recommend they restrict his turn-out access to a limited area until he is consistant for them.)
So they are going to call me tomorrow with a time when they would like to come out and see him. I'm going to let them watch me catch him and work with him so they can see all aspect. I'm also wanting to talk to his wife some more to get a better understanding of what her horse experience is and if they are going to do the saddle training themselves or get someone to do it.
After hearing about the property and such, I'm hopeful that it works out, yet a little reserved about it all due to not knowing their experience level yet. I want to make sure Bandit gets a good home that will be a good match for him.
On the bright side I worked with Bandit tonight and he was an absolute doll for me. He somehow got his forelock full of burrs that I had to work out. He did jump a couple times when I yanked when he wasn't expecting (big improvement over normal because usually he hates his forelock to even be touched), but otherwise tolerated it very well. We did some leading work and backing work, and then I just spent the time petting him down and rubbing his belly and legs. By the time I was done his head was about to the ground he was so relaxed. He literally looked drugged!
