We just got back from our nice little trail ride in the summer pasture woods. It was great. I almost fell off Norman once when a grouse flew up from the brush and spooked him. Not sure how I managed to stay on bareback, but I guess my balance is better than I thought. Hubby thought it was funny until a few minutes later another grouse flew up and spooked BOTH horses. I did much better that time and hubby kept quiet. :p

All in all it was a great ride. We did 99% walking since as WB mentioned they are outta shape. We had to turn around a few trails since it seems like we have a couple beavers and they put big trees over the trail.

And I checked them out before hand and they didn't react at all to my touching/pressing so they didn't seem sore from last nights ride.

After we got Booty's tack off and Norman's bridle they both had a good roll in the dust!

There aren't too many pictures... I wasn't that comfortable after the grouse incidents to take any more. :cowboy:

Just starting out:

Well your soreness you're just gonna have to get over, as long as the horses are fine! :)

Lovely pictures, lovely property to have to be able to ride on. :~)

Your woods and trails are so beautiful, this is such a nice time of year to ride. And wow, you rode bareback?! You are a good rider girl! And to stay on when Norman reacted to the grouse that flew up, man I would've been on my butt.....lol! I used to ride bareback a long time ago and galloped all over the countryside, I couldn't stay on now I bet. Norman is just gorgeous!

For some reason I feel more comfortable bareback. Maybe it's because i'm closer to him and can feel how he is going to act, etc.? Not sure. I am in no way ready to be galloping over the countryside though! I can handle a walk and his nice slow trot and that's as far as I've pushed it. Today with me being sore, even his nice floaty trot hurt my butt!

Glad you had a good ride. You have a nice place to ride in.

So far as the bareback, I can relate with being more comfortable. For me, a lot of it is knowing there's nothing to get hung up on if you do happen to fall.

I think the last time I rode bareback was in 1999, I jumped on Kara real quick one day.....trotted a few steps and had to drop back down to a walk because I felt like I was going to slide right off.....lol.....Kara did have quite a round flat back tho, she was hard to ride bareback, but I don't think I could ride any horse bareback any more.....except maybe an 11hh Shetland.....ha ha..... :)

Maybe that's part of it too. And when I was riding Booty and not doing so well, it was just easier for me to get off and stop without having to untack and all that. Easy on, easy off.

But I don't know if it's because he's bigger or what, but he and I just seem to fit and I don't feel wobbly on him at all, except when he turns really fast. Otherwise I just sit real nice and comfy like I'm on a couch! :cowboy:

Glad that you got a chance to go for a ride. Looks like a great place to ride, although it is sad to see that your trees have already lost most of their leaves. Dang, I hate to see winter coming. I used to ride bareback all of the time when I was a kid, but that was a long time ago.
