My friend Holly (who I made the chocolate cake for) has a daughter that just turned 4. She asked me to make her birthday cake for her party tomorrow. It's "Little Mermaid" themed. I needed to have something that was enough to feed 30+ people.

What do you think? I still have to add the fish/octopus/starfish to the mermaid cake, but I am going to wait until I get to their house to put them on so they don't fall off on the way.

I'm exhausted! And I'm not 100% happy with the cupcakes, but I'm finished. I started baking at 9 a.m. and just sat down now. Thank goodness for Grandmas to entertain the kids and naptime (when I took a break!)

I used brown sugar for the "sand" so it's pretty real looking... hubby taste tested one of the cupcakes and said they passed, so I think we are good to go! Hopefully the birthday girl likes everything. I like to say she is 4 going on 34, so if she doesn't - I'll definitely hear about it! :)

Edit: I tested out the strength of the fishies, etc. and it was good - so I just finished it all this a.m.

well since my new year's resolution is to bake a cake from scratch and I haven't accomplished that yet... the mermaid is confetti (as per the birthday girl's request) and the cupcakes are chocolate.

Well the little girl loved it! I was kind of worried about the brown sugar with kids if they would like it, but they gobbled them up!

Mita- I also love making and decorating, but my hubby isn't fond of the "fat boy" program either. :)
