View Full Version : Puppy needs home, or a train if possible

You know the story about livawards puppy
http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1231
You may know that I have fallen head over heals over the baby.
He needs a home. I would love to have him, but they live very far away.
They are in Houston TX, and I am near Springfield MO.
The closest my husband comes to them is Ok City, OK.
So, she either needs to find a home for the baby, or, if at all possible, a puppy train, close enough for me to come get him.
Any takers for the puppy, or puppy train drivers???

Searching for transport. Anyone know of a good company??? On the road, not by air, hes to tiny to go up that high.

Well I'm going to go to near waco next week if you can find someone to bring him there. At least I'm planning to. I might could bring him to the bottom of Oklahom. Can't go to OKC. Not sure if anyone else is in Ok to pick up the train. . pooey

Wish I could help, Vicky, but I'm way up in the opposite direction!
vicklynn
11-02-2008, 03:17 PM
Equine, I hope so. We will see how this works.
I can drive to OK City and home, or my hubby if timing is right, could pick him up.
He says pray on it. I am.
I am also checking out a couple transport sites. See what happens there.

I have a friend who lives in College Station and might come visit me soon! It might be two weekends or so though!! Is there any way we could get the puppy to College Station? She'd bring it to Fort Worth and I could bring it in to Oklahoma
Equine_Woman
11-02-2008, 03:25 PM
Okay. I just talked to my friend. She said if ya'll can get it to College Station she can bring it to me in Fort Worth and I will bring it on up into OK. She won't be able to come this weekend though. . .
livaward
11-02-2008, 03:26 PM
I can bring the pup to College Station with out a problem
Equine_Woman
11-02-2008, 03:27 PM
Awesome. So I can go into OK. We'll have to work on timing. What do you think Vick?
vicklynn
11-02-2008, 03:28 PM
Well, we got so far so good:clap::clap:
Equine, how far into OK can you go? Or is it to the border?
Equine_Woman
11-02-2008, 03:31 PM
Well my sister lives in Moore OK, which is south of OKC so maybe I could go visit her. If not I can go to Ardmore. Maybe further depending on gas prices.
vicklynn
11-02-2008, 03:33 PM
I just looked up Moore, OK, its only a 4 1/2 hr drive. I can do that.
Are you sure this is ok for you??Also your friend bringing the pup to you??
Equine_Woman
11-02-2008, 03:35 PM
I think so! I'll have to get with my sister. She's a busy girl so she might not be available. . But we will figure it out somehow! So the first step is to plan on when Danna can get here. She's at the barn right now but I'll call her this evening and see what weekend is good for her. Livaward can get the puppy to her and then she'll get it up here. Are you able to go during the week or is it only on the weekends?
vicklynn
11-02-2008, 03:36 PM

Can you believe I need tissues....Im so happy.

11-02-2008, 03:38 PM
K! Sounds good. We'll figure it all out. I'll let you know what weekend is good for Danna and hopefully Livaward will be able to meet with her sometime that's good for her! Danna's quite the animal lover so she's a good member of the train!

11-02-2008, 03:50 PM
No problem!! This will be fun!! Plus I'd love to meet you!!! And I mentioned to my Mom about visiting my sister and she shut that idea down. So i can't go see her (cause then my Mom who is way too controlling in my life, will know.) But I still don't mind driving that far as long as I don't have to bring my kid! lol. I'll just jam. (And be berry berry quiet about it with my fam). lol. Silly to almost be 30 and worry about what your Mother says. Sigh.
vicklynn
11-02-2008, 03:51 PM
Oh my, I dont want to cause issues with you and your family. How far are you driving?
Equine_Woman
11-02-2008, 03:54 PM
Lol, oh no worries! It's 3 1/2 hours from my town to OKC. It's only 180 miles so there and back will only be about a tank and a half of gas and if I get to drive my hubbies car it won't cost much at all. (like 20 - 25 dollars.) So I'm not worried about my Mom. I just have to roll my eyes at her.
vicklynn
11-02-2008, 03:56 PM
Awww, ok, gotcha. LOL..I understand those moms..they are very loving though, even when your almsot 50..lol

If he is with Vicklynn we can all have updates on him like with Kabota and the kittens from WB!!!!! I'm so excited! He is a cute little buckaroo, he looks so cuddly!

Yay! I'm glad it's working. I'm in WI so I am not much help. But I can't wait to hear when the puppy train leaves!
vicklynn
11-02-2008, 05:45 PM
I cant wait either..lol. My hubby is happy for me that it's working. This coming from the man, NO more animals. He knows how much that little bugger got to me...shhhh, the pup got to him too..lol
Oh ya, he asked me, what are you gonna name him, Painted Puppy...LOL. Then call him PP.
I about died laughing. I said he looks like a Scooter, but I dont know. Ill need help with names, and I need to check his ways.

11-02-2008, 06:09 PM
Awwww, looky the puppy puppy puppy. He's so small next to your Boxers.
Shyla is my bud, so I will have to pay special attention to her. She likes puppies, but I dont want her feeling left out. Im gonna make a bed for the pup near my bed. Shyla sleeps with me, shes my cuddle bug. I dont want the pup jumping down off my bed, it's way to high and he will hurt himself. I got just the place for his bed too.

11-02-2008, 06:14 PM
Awwwwww......yeah I felt bad earlier......I was getting his food ready on the counter and I usually just set him up there while I fix it cause he is so tiny and he was being a butt and eating his food while I was fixing and my phone rang so I went to answer it and he winded up knocking off his food bowl off the counter and he went with it.......poor little guy! He is good now and sleeping in my lap.....I need to put him in his box.......yeah he is gettin spoiled........he's your problem now LOL
vicklynn
11-02-2008, 06:22 PM
Awww, glad he's ok. Ill have to find out what milk replacer and puppy food your feeding. Gotta keep the little guy growing and strong.
Also will need a list or copy of the vet info. Ill need to get him vetted ASAP.
livaward
11-02-2008, 06:30 PM
This is the vet that I would take him too........
http://www.vetgateusa.com/main.cfm?vid=524
Right now he is getting 1/4-1/3 can of purina puppy mixed with warm water and 2 teaspoons of powdered milk replacer......I was going to start switching him over to a mix of soft dry food mixed with some canned food
vicklynn
11-02-2008, 06:35 PM
Awww, ok on the food.
I guess I thought you took him into the vet and had him checked over and wormed. Is that where you took him?
livaward
11-02-2008, 06:40 PM
Yeah.........the vet is a friend of the family and I help him out so he didn't charge me since he owed me back for some work I did up there.......meeting people up there for an emergency getting the paper work started while he is on his way since I am literally 2 minuets from the clinic. He is a great guy.
vicklynn
11-02-2008, 06:54 PM
Aww, got cha. I got a pretty cool vet. Im surprised he dosnt have a web site. He does seminars too. He gets the big guys, from Purina and Fort Dodge, to come to some of the feed stores and do clinics. I like that. He's kinda high price wise, but I had him show me how to do shots so I can save a few dollars. He still does all my coggins, Rabies and strangles(Im NOT sticking stuff up my horses nose for them to blow it on me...lol)

11-02-2008, 07:34 PM
Hmm. . .okay. We'll have to figure out a drop spot or something. She will be at work until 3:30. (She's a teacher) Would Thursday be better? Or would you be okay leaving him in a kennel if it's not too cold? I'd hate to do that, but she could put a kennel in her horse trailer for him maybe. She has a nice trailer. I'll talk to her and see if she knows anyone who you can drop him off with.

Oh, question? Can you measure him? He looks pretty tiny. Im going to buy him his own travel crate/bed. He will have it to sleep in at home if he wants too. My dogs have open door policy, unless we need to leave. He is way to small for the crates I have..lol
Im thinking this one, but not sure how big he will get.

Liva will get sleep when hes gone.
Glad Im going to be able to have him a couple weeks before I go to WA.
Get him in a routine here, so my house sitter will be ok with him.
Truth is, I may NOT have a puppy when I get home, Id better search her bags really good.
She is an honest animal NUT, takes in stray anything, yup. If its needy, she is there to help.
She just took in 2 baby kittens under age, had feeding them. Momma cat neglected them.

How wonderful, isn't it exciting getting something like this to all come together? It is fun, and even though you may not have much time with your little transport, you sure do get attached. Vick, I know how it is to fall in love with that puppy face.............give your hubby a big hug! Don't get too small of a crate, if you haven't had a puppy in a while you forget how fast they grow!
Good luck...........
livaward

He wont get very big at all I don't think...........I think a medium crate would work great for growing......
vicklynn
11-03-2008, 11:27 AM
Ya, Im not getting a small one, just needed to know where to start from. Ill get him one that will fit a full size mini schnauzer. That way, he can grow into it. My other dogs all have Large crates to lay in. Sometimes, 2 will run in one and lay down...lol..they are snug that way I guess...cuddle bugs...hehehe
Equine_Woman
11-03-2008, 11:32 AM
At least you don't have to get a Mastiff sized one. We have a Mastiff sized crate in our tiny living room and it takes up almost the same amount of room as our couch!!! Yikes!!! It doesn't fit anywhere else in the house so we make do. Although I'm sure Piper would much rather just sleep on the bed. . .but then there would be no room for my husband.

Docking the tail now will be a major surgery....anesthesia, stitches, pain meddy all that good stuff........he'll have to be older too I think 6 months

for docking the tail, i've noticed that in most dog shows, they dont dock the tail as much anymore, some of them are just long and curl into a circular shape.........
vicklynn
11-03-2008, 06:51 PM
Well, thats good to know. Ill have to look into that. I wont be showing him, he will be my go everywhere dog, and yes, even riding. Had one horse that used to carry me and my dog, City can do the same, he's a good boy that way.
shelsnsaus
11-03-2008, 06:52 PM
It is a fairly major deal when their older and sometimes they have some balance issues at first. It can be done, although (here at least) some vets will refuse to do it when their older. Its much more major and painful to them than when its done when their little.
vicklynn
11-03-2008, 06:54 PM
The pain is why I may not have it done. Its not about me. I dont want the dog in pain.
I searched them out, found loads of them with pics. So, NO tail docking for him. He will be pain free and whipping mommy in the face happy...:)

11-03-2008, 07:11 PM

hehe! glad sorta, our first minature had the long curly tail, and the big floppy ears! she was ok with it, and her tail looked pretty cute, our other mini, which is going on 7 we got him wiht his ears and tail already clipped, granted he looks cute but, i think thats one of the reasons he does not enjoy his ears being touched. doesnt really mind his little stubby tail though so i dont know.

That one puppy looks so much like him! He is precious, I'm so happy you are getting him. Since I saw Grady [Gliderider's baby] I have been in love with their little faces, I had never seen a black one before and since seeing Grady that's been on my adoption list if Noah would allow it. If I found one close enough for him to meet, I check PetFinders all the time. I think his little tail is cute but then I think everything about him is cute. I hope he'll love horseback riding!

Ive wanted a Schnauzer sence, well, um, cant think back that far. When I ended up getting Ruffus, my cockapoo, it was to save him from being put to sleep, my search for my Schnauzer had ended. I kept Ruffus until 3 yrs ago, when we put him to sleep. By then I had the other dogs and just didnt want anyone in Ruffus' spot. Shyla is my bud, but dang, cant take that big ole girl on the horse..lol. Ruffus loved to ride, then hit the trails. Im not sure about this guy hitting the trails. I may get a pack for him. He will start young and learn only to be around the horse when mommy is getting on with him. If he decides he dosnt want to ride, that is fine. I read up on them again, and thinking he may like it though.;)

I'm sorry about your Ruffus, he sounds like he was a great little dog. I can relate some, when I lost my Westie I couldn't even look at another one but now 23 yrs later I'd like another but Noah doesn't seem to enjoy other doggies and I might be too old for the Westie's activity level. I did put an application in for a puppy from a rescue but we weren't picked, there were like 50 applications on that little dog. I am thinking it was meant to be since it would have upset Noah. I thought another dog would make him happy but found out I was wrong.
I hope your little buckaroo will enjoy the horses and riding. Maybe if he's started young he will. Our friends huge German Shepherd rides across her saddle, she enjoys it! My Westie was horse crazy like her mother. She'd see one on TV and go crazy, she'd stand on the screen 'til she couldn't see it anymore. She was a big fan of Westerns! We had horses here once for a visit and she stayed with them the whole time. I wish she lived long enough to be with our old horse. Noah doesn't enjoy the horses but he loves the cats and birds and our bunny. He's so gentle with them but is jealous of other dogs.
Did you name the baby yet? I am happy you are getting him. Now we all know he has a good home where he will be cherished and you can keep us updated on him. I'm so excited for you and for him. I'm glad you'll be getting your little Schnauzer at last! They are cute, my aunt & uncle had one and he was a great dog. He was the grey kind. I never knew they came in black 'til I saw Grady and fell head over heels in love with that little face! I know you have to be counting the days 'til your baby is home with you!

You could say to Ruffus, Lets go ride JD, oh his ears would perk, he loved going to the barn, of course after time, poor guy came to me abused and scared of the world. Funny how JD, being abused, and Ruffus became best buds...lol, guess they knew something hu?
Anyway, no, no name yet. Still searching. They say he is/was a german breed, but is a terrier, so I dont know.
I so need help, and when I hear the right one, it'll jump out at me.
Days, yup, you got that right, it's Tuesday, and I get him Sunday after next. Wooohooo.
I think Equine Woman and I are gonna have a happy time, Ewwwing and Awwwing over the baby.
And Liva, well, what can I say, she made me one happy woman. ((HUGS))

I know!! It's all working out perfectly!!! Once we figure out if Livaward can meet Danna on Friday or if we have to make a different arrangement everything will be set!! I'm actually looking forward to the drive!!! I love to jam and drive my husband's car so it'll be a fun drive. Plus getting to meet Vick which I would never have gotten to do otherwise!!! Plus I'm going to try and get the puppy to let me take some portrait photos. . .no guarantees Vick. And I'm going to stop at some Waterfalls on the way back and take some photos. (maybe.) So it's going to be a fun trip for me!!! Getting puppy kisses is just a bonus!

This is all so great. I love how everyone comes together to help a puppy find a home with a mommy who has always wanted a puppy like him!
I'm terrible at picking names, the worst, so it'll be interesting to see what his name is when he gets a name!

8 more days!!!!!!!!
I need a couple things from you liva, so I can go shopping. Do you still have him on soft puppy food? Im thinking of buying Puppy Chow, adding warm water to it. Is he ready for that?
What all did the vet do? That way I can let my vet know.
I got plenty of toys for him to chew on and up, so thats not a problem.
I need mini rawhide though, hes gonna need them. And a file...LMBO Gonna file them baby teeth down...:hysterical: I am so kidding.
I found Gizzys puppy colar, its royal blue, and I know I have the matching lead somewhere. Probably in my truck, Ill have to look. I need to call my friend about crate trading, cause there isnt much time left. I have to be prepared ya know. Pre meaning, way before for me...lol I got his blankey all ready too, for him to lay on the floor next to the couch. His crate will be in the bedroom, and he will have a blankey in there too.
Oh, I so need to get him his own doggy dish, I have the raised ones for the bigger dogs...lol Hmmmm, maybe Ill lower one, Gizzy and he can share, 2 bowls per feeder. Boys have one, girls have the other.
LOL

I'm pretty excited too!!! It's like a win win for me!! My friend Danna is going to be the second leg (Liva will drop the pup with her) and she's driving up on Friday night, leaving early Sunday when I'll set off to meet Vick!!!!!! Gonna be fun fun fun weekend!!! Hopefully I'll be able to get some cute pics of the pup on Saturday. We'll try and get that done before Danna and I head off on our horse day! Planning on going to the big tack store in Weatherford (Teskeys) and maybe riding if we have time!! Fun! (Have no fear, Puppy will be here with my hubby all day and he is a MAJOR sucker for cute puppies so I'm sure they will be cuddled on the couch watching the Cowboys play. lol. (Sorry about that Vick, we'll be sure the pup knows he's not to root for the Cowboys.) lol But Danna wouldn't be coming if it weren't for the puppy so I'm very happy!

Aww, your going to Weatherford hu. Cool place. Thats where Chris Cox lives. Not sure if I saw Teskeys or not. There was a jean place across from the motel I was at, but was only there over night.
Thats ok about the Cowboys, as long as he remembers, the Seahawks rock.

Well Vick I gave him so dry food and he tried to eat it but was having a hard time so I added some wet canned food and water to it.......after the food softened up he at it good. He has a REALLY small neck and I think the only collars that would fit him now is kitty collers I tried the collar on that Ruby was wearing and it swallowed him LOL....
The vet took his temp, wormed him, checked his vitals.......your vet will need to start him on his shots parvo, distemper....you know like one of those 7 way shots since he will be about 6 weeks old when you get him and they get those shots at 6 weeks, 10 weeks, and 14 weeks I think and also heart worm preventative
Instead of a raw hide get him some of those ones that break up? I got him some and I don't think that he will go through all of them.......those rawhides can't digest fully in his baby belly......unless you get like some Pig ears things like that......natural.
I will also be sending an old bleached towel that can be his blanket for a little while......so that his first week or so won't be like his last week.......getting totally taken away from mommy that way there will be my scent and you can add your own blanket with your scent that way the transition won't be so traumatic.
I have some Puppy Chow I got an 8lb. bag that I will also be sending cause I know he isn't going to eat ALL of it LOL........
Now if he acts sick at first it is normal.......just sad and scarred being in a new place he didn't really eat that well his 1st day because of that.......
If I think of something else I will be sure to let you know
vicklynn
