As y'all may know by now, I am pretty obsessed with learning all I can about horse tack before I buy it. I found one good site with horse tack reviews, where people could pretty much dish out the rants or raves about tack that they owned/used. But, that was it - just one site!

Aside from being able to try it out yourself, nothing gives you a better picture about how a particular piece of tack might or might not work for you than hearing it from, eh, the horse's mouth.

I was thinking maybe we could have a place in the Forum for tack reviews, where members can list the pro's and con's of tack that they use or have used in the past. There are so many members here, and our Forum is growing every day. What a resource our experiences are!

Whaddya think?

Sounds like a good idea to me.:) And maybe not just tack like saddles and pads, but also turnout blankets, flymasks, hoof boots, etc. It can be reviews on all kinds of stuff.:)

That sounds like a really good idea to me. I like it :) Yeah I think broken into sections would be best.

I like the idea of a tack review.

So, if ya break it down by type would it look like this

Saddles
Leather
Synthetic

Bridles
Leather
Synthetic

Halters
you get the idea.
Is that what you mean?

Yeah, I was thinking along that line. It might take a lot of work from 'the administrators' to set up something like it; the Tack Review part, at least, would need to have a category all its own for people to post threads under. At least with that much, folks could name their thread, like "Abetta Saddle" or "Hackamores"

Hmmm.... I'm not sure we'd have enough play to make it a section.... but what about threads on each topic, with a poll? They'd play for awhile and then sink down, probably, but they'd be able to be searched for again... It's possible to sticky them, but the forum is harder to browse if there's a whole bunch of sticky threads at the top...

Just thinking out loud... :)

I think a tack review area (threads or it's own section) would be a great idea! I love learning about saddles and sharing my knowledge that I've learned from working along side a saddle builder! I love bit reviews too, so many bits with so many different purposes, someone without a lot of bit experience to learn about bits and their uses too. I love the idea of sport boots and the "extra's" like that too!

Sounds like a great idea, if it's doable!

I like this idea! I think if we could make it a section it has a lot of potential for bringing new members. People often search reviews on tack and if we could get them to pop up on google I think it could bring a lot of traffic.

I favor the idea of this having its own section, and if it eventually dies or 'sinks' then we can just let it go by the wayside, so to speak. Having a separate section would allow a lot of freedom to start threads on a specific brand of saddle or type of turnout blanket, etc., which others could add their opinions and experiences to. I am sure that topics will get recycled over time, but that's not a bad thing.

OK - well, we'll think about adding this... I don't think hubby's read it yet, I'll bring it to his attention and see what he says he can do. :)

THANKS WB! If it doesn't stick around, we can nix it. I just like to think positive, and there are so many Forum members now who are all experts in their own realm of experience with tack..... it would be nice to harness the collective conscience and see where it takes us.
