I realized this was kinda long, sorry guys!

I was looking through some old pics from when I first moved to KY and I found some of Cleo in race horse tack. I had never riden in an exercise saddle before I went to jockey school so one of the girls at the barn brough me one to try. Looking at all the pics of Cleo makes me sad and I just wonder what has happened to her! She was competing awesome. Did her first event very well, won 2'9" jumpers and then turned around and won reserve champion w/t with my student. The she had the white line and went in to the university of ga for surgery. After that she was never the same. She had two years off and I tried to bring her back into training. She was the sweetest most willing horse and now she is a little monster with horrible hind end problems. She is very hesitant to move forward and you can see even on the lunge line she doesn't bring her back end up under her. I have had about 5 vets look at her and a chiropractor. I got all different feedback. She has very odd muscling by her tail as well. One side is much more developed than the other. I keep holding onto the hope she can be ridden again, but it doesn't seem like that is going to happen. A friend rode her and she reared and reared and finally he had her moving forward but you could tell it was akward for her. She isn't trying to be bad, but so far no one has been able to pin point what is wrong.

Here are a few pics of her. She looks so different in the race horse tack.

Awww! Cleo's a cute horse! Hopefully, you'll be able to figure a way to find out what's wrong with her.

What were some of the things the vets said about her?
She is beautiful.

Hmm, thats sad. Makes me wonder if the surgery, anesthesia, or something didnt effect her.

I do hope that someone can figure this out for you. Love the event shots!!

Thanks guys. One vet thought she might have flipped over at some point another thought she might have slipped and jared something in her rump area. One vet basically told me she was hopeless and even went as far as to say she wouldn't recover. I have never seen Cleo fall and I never noticed a drastic difference in her any day. She just seemed to get more stiff behind after her layoff. At first I thought it was just the time off and maybe she had a little attitude. I had her vetted when she came to KY in Feb last year. The vet couldn't come up with much except she was lacking muscle on one side for some reason. She moves reasonably well an you wouldn't notice anything right off. You see it mostly in her canter and with a rider on her. She seemed a little better after the chiropractor. I have kept 4 shoes on her because when I pulled the back ones off she started wearing her hooves down too much. I have her barefoot again and she is doing okay this time around. She was sound and we had a pre-purchase on her before I bought her. About a month later she was lame and they said she had white line, it was so bad her hoof was basically hollow. The vet didn't notice in the pre purchase, they said she is a super tought mare and even at the point she went in for surgery she didn't look that bad. That was in her front right hoof. The removed a lot of the hoof and patched it up. That hoof healed very nicely and I thought we were good to go. She has been a week long bute trial...which didn't seem to make a huge difference in her.

I am at a loss and as I said before I have had so many people look at her and have yet to get much of anything back. It is to the point where I finally gave up on spending all the money because she is sound to move around in the field. Jogs and runs around at times. She is quite playful and she loves to run to the top of the hill and rear up and act goofy. You can see she is really short and choppy behind cantering around the field, but as long as she can live comfortably I put a hold on all the vet exams. If to get her rideable she needs chiropractic work all the time, injections, or supplements at this point it isn't worth it because I don't have the time to really show her right now. And I don't think that is fair to her. I just don't understand what happened. She went from a competing horse to this...and I never noticed her come in one day with anything drastic. I have always had ponies and when I got her to sell for a lady my dad was like how about we buy her as your cometition horse...I was so excited because we got along so well. I never even showed her as my own horse.

My parents really want me to get rid of her, but I am not going to let someone just take her. Especially because she can't be ridden right now, who knows what would happen to her.

What about putting her on Cosequin or Adequine (sp?) injections. Maybe she has some arthritis or something causing her to move funny and therefore build up unevenly. It might be worth trying something like this. Couldn't hurt...

Do you think something happened at the vet clinic that you weren't told about? Not that it would make any difference but it would be nice to know. Do you have her at home or board?

I am sorry to hear about Cleo. Have you had her backend xrayed that might help to pin point what is going on with her. Just a suggestion.

I thought about that. I think there is something else going on, but that probably would be a good way to start.

I am not sure if anything could have happened at the vet, but she seemed fine when I brought her home.

She was at my house for 2 1/2 years after her hoof issue and I have had her in KY for the past year at a boarding farm(I live at the farm).
