Well Texas has finally decided it is fall!! The trees are turning (even the oaks) and LBJ National Grasslands are gorgeous!!! Can't go on some of the trails because of the hunters but there is still plenty of room to spread out!!!
Somehow I convinced my husband to go with me on Mack and somehow he convinced me to go camping after our ride. (took the horses home).
I took a ton of pics to share, none of which are with my good camera, just my little point and shoot. But I had to share!! It's not nearly as pretty as some of ya'll get but it'll do for me!!!!

Heading out we run into a big group of hunters eating lunch. Waved and said hello and shut the gate behind them.

Mack has been filling so much better!! He has a lot more energy and pep to his step!! He actually took the lead on part of the trail and was really walking out!!! It's so nice to see an older horse feeling good!

We decided to explore the dry creek bed for a little ways. . .

Mack says, No way!!!! There was a tree over the creek.

So Sterling took the lead.

Mack said okay after that!

We decided the footing in the creek bed was too deep for our older guys and turned around, then headed to the lake. This is Cottonwood Lake from the Red Trail

Not exactly a 'lake' by anyone else's terms. . more like a stock pond.

We went into another little pond and of course Sterling had to cool herself off. (And everyone else around her). I love when she splashes in the water. Although you have to be on your toes because she will generally try and roll at the end of the splash. As she did today. lol

Mack wasn't too keen on the water but he didn't protest too much!! He didn't want to hold still though. Must keep moving. He says I'm a dressage horse, not a trail horse. But I think he secretly likes our trail rides!
That's it from me!!!! We took the horses home and packed our tent and made it back the grasslands at sunset. This time we camped without our son and it was much more restfull. I froze my nose off still but I wasn't worried about anyone else's nose!!
