Hello,
Some forum friends who shall remain nameless, but whose initials are (PoniesRock101 and Gypsy Rose) :hysterical::hysterical: have pointed out that I'm way overdue for a Buster update. Well, they're right about that I suppose, so here's my beloved boy and his pasture mates, too! I've introduced some of his pasturemates before, but it's nice to see them again.
Buster is wintering very well this year. He's happy, healthy, coat is full and shiny, he's eating well, all is good!

Here's a close up of The Magnificent Steed. I haven't been riding because I'm a "winter wimp" :innocent: and I also worry about the ice. So, I just visit with Buster in the winter months.

Jesse. I love Jesse. He was a tough little hombre when he first came to the ranch a few years ago. He would not let Buster put him in his place (Buster was top horse of the entire farm, then). The BO once saw Buster and Jesse both on their hind legs swinging away at each other. Yikes! After that, Buster had to let Jesse do what he wanted and you could see how much Buster hated when Jesse would saunter into his space, but Buster didn't want anymore of this little "Napolean" creature.
However, somewhere along the way, Jesse totally mellowed out. He's third or fourth in line now and it doesn't bother him a bit. He's a complete sweetheart.

"Got a cookie for me, Jackie?"
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg288/JackieB_2008/JesseCloseUp.jpg
Pokey the Mule. I just love Pokey so much. She follows me around like a puppy dog and is just a dream of an animal. She doesn't get ridden because she had some bad training when she was young and nobody wants to tackle retraining her, but she's wonderful to have around. So affectionate.
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg288/JackieB_2008/Pokey.jpg
Kiddo. The Grand Old Man of the farm. Kiddo's about 30 now and moves pretty slow. I used to ride him years ago, but nobody rides him anymore, except for really light kids occasionally. I just couldn't love Kid more. His owner lives on the farm and has had Kiddo since he was two or so.

So, that's the update. We're just patiently finishing out the winter. It's a quiet and relaxing time.
I almost always go out late in the evening to visit. That's just when it fits into my schedule. Oftentimes, Buster doesn't show up until I have called for awhile and then he's blinking because I obviously woke him up from a winter nap. So, I give him his carrots, groom, clean his feet, check for any injuries, hug him and tell him he's wonderful, and then head back home. Kind of a nice way for him to spend his winter, I'd say.
Thanks for taking in my update on Buster and his roomies.

He looks great Jackie, and thank you for the pictures!
The Magnificent Steed is looking very well.
When I saw the title I thought, "Oh, no! Had Buster been sick or injured?" Loved the bios on each equid (since ya threw a mule ito the mix).

Well, good grief! Took ya long enough!:p:hysterical::)
I love hearing the stories you tell about all the horses(and mule) on the farm. They sound like they're wonderful characters!
Looks like Kido and his owner are ranking right up there along with Gypsy and myself. It's rare when you have the chance to have a wonderful horse to share your life with for so many years.
Love this pic of Buster- snow muzzle! So cute!

Oh no! I better get lots of Buster updates this year. I'm really eager to start riding again and I also got a little Flip handheld video recorder for a gift, so it should be super-easy for me to get Buster videos.
Regarding the worming, I'm not worried about it anymore. As I mentioned in the Visitor Message on your "wall", I'm going to have you come up and worm him for us! :hysterical::hysterical:
Actually, I haven't had to worm him again yet. And the first worming (which I might give today) will be with Equibits (that you recommended). The next worming will be with the Ivermectin and that one could be tough. But we'll see. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for thinking of him.

I saw that Farnam (I think) might be coming out with these ivermectin treats that are supposed to be super palatable but will actually deworm your horse. It sounded pretty cool to me.

You better not just be getting my hopes up.:hysterical::hysterical:
That would be so awesome.
I hear what people are saying when they say "You really just need to train your horse...", but it's more than that with him. I've worked through lots of stuff over the past 6 years and this is a bigger challenge than any.
It's almost like saying "You really need to train yourself to overcome your fear of snakes/spiders/rats (to a person who is really upset about those things). It's a major challenge for us, but I'll continue to patiently work on it for however long it takes. But if you're right about the treats or pellets, that would be too awesome.

I'm hopeful that Pokey can continue as a pasture ornament on the farm forever. They've never talked about letting her go. But if the time came, I'd probably be trying to find a new home for her. I just love Pokey to pieces. She was following me around again today and loves scratches more than almost any animal I met.
At first it's a little intimidating because she loves to have her rear scratched and she'll swing it around toward you. But she's just trying to get positioned. :p
I'll get some videos of Pokey when she's braying, too. Sooo cute.

Gorgeous! Just Gorgeous. And you have reminded me to just be with my horses. I have been IM-patiently waiting the end of winter and forgot to just be. I'm going to practice that tomorrow!!
I LOVE your shot of Kiddo!!! Gorgeous!! And Buster is the only horse I know who looks just as stunning in his winter woolies as he does without them!

Glad you found the update. I figured you were just real busy with school work.
Thanks for the kind words on Buster. It's mutual, I can assure you. I just love him so much and it doesn't even really matter to me anymore whether or not we ride (although I do very much enjoy riding).
Kiddo is really, really sweet. He always was gentle, but now that he's getting to be quite old, he really tugs at your heartstrings the way he moves slowly and everything. But once in awhile, he'll get that burst of young energy again and go to bucking across the pasture. :)

Thanks, Caddo. I love them all. Buster's the only one that's mine, though. The others belong to friends and the owner of the farm.
Buster looks good - nice and fuzzy. He seems to be content where he is at and whom he is with.

Thanks JackieB. Buster looks great and thanks for not making us go through the whole "neglecting Buster" thing again just to get some pics.:) He looks great! I want Pokey. Ya think Pokey could come and live at Buck's Hollow. I think Buck would love the extra company. Mira and Jack are pretty much a clique of their own lately.

Hi JackieB! So nice to see Buster and his family again! He is quite the handsome steed! From the looks of your avatar it looks like you managed to get a winter ride in....or is is that just for "looks"? LOTSA snow here in Ohio as well...sigh!

If she evern needs a home, I'm going to come looking on the forum for one for her. She's such a sweet mule.
