View Full Version : I am really proud of my horse

Went out to the barn because we are having a break in the gloomy weather and decided to take him outside. My dumb ass forgot what a piece of crap land the barn actually sits on and the fact that the BO dumps the poop right outside of the back door. It looked solid but was actually over the knee soup.
Solon sunk over his knees and I sunk up to my knee, twisted it and fell right out of my boot. Solon had to jump to get unstuck. He trotted off down the path and I was sitting the soupy grass making a sailor proud yelling.
He turned and came right back to me and started nickering over my head. I grabbed onto his halter and pulled myself up. I was determined to get him out so I hobbled to his pasture and he walked really slow next to me. Got him out there so he could run a bit.
Got a little bit of video of him running. Chubby horses can actually canter a bit! But I am so proud of him. Back in the old days, he'd have ran straight for the border and wouldn't have even looked back to see if I was following.
Poor excuse for a buck in the video huh?!

What a good, good boy - he deserves an extra 4lbs of chocolate ;) or at least a good pat and maybe a carrot

I gave him a bunch of carrots! I was so surprised when he came right back to me. He didn't even stop to eat the grass and he is ALWAYS thinking of food.
The other funny thing about that video. He can go into a canter from a stand still, but only if I'm not on him. I knew he knew how to do it!!

What a good boy! Glad Solon came back to help you! I had to watch the video twice. I got such a kick out of Solon bucking, then taking off!

I think that's about as high as I've ever seen him buck! But he's started doing this really cool dressage things where he jumps straight up in the air and kicks out. It's wicked cool to see but I haven't been able to catch it on video yet. The first time the BO and I saw him do it we kinda looked at each other because he got some straight up in the air height!
After I get this surgery done next Wednesday I can concentrate on healing and then get into a regular riding routine so I can get him back into shape!

I'm impressed with his buck - he got some air! Allegro's bucks are pretty much just small litle crow hops but he thinks he's a wild bronc

Thanks. I'm going to use that video as a baseline to help track his weight loss once we get going in a few weeks. Too much weight is as bad as too little and I want him around for a long time!

When I free lunge him in the pasture and I'm ready for him to come to me I hold my hand straight up in the air and he turns and trots up to me. He knows he's gonna get a cookie. That green thing in the video is his 'cookie' they are the packer pellets I use for his grain. They are like pony cocaine or something!

Pony Cocaine...:hysterical:
Watching him is reasons why I want to keep Myst down the road. Time will tell
Shes only a tad bit Perch, but dang it, how can you NOT love that forward trot up to you, that kind mind, ect ect ect. Im glad she only has a pinch, cause dang, Id not be able to ride a big girl like your boy is.
I tell ya though, from now on out, IF I dont bring Myst home after she leaves, and IF I get another horse besides her, its gonna be part Perch. Their mind is the bomb to me. Their eye is so sweet and telling.

Thanks everyone. I just can't wait to get back to riding!
He's been very lovey lately, makes me wonder how much animals in general can know if we are hurting.

What a beautiful horse. I like the part where you hung on his halter to pull yourself up...he was there to help you!
