I thought this would be a fun thread! :)
If you were to sell your horse, what would the ad look like, what information would you put in, etc?
(btw, make them as long and as cool as you like. they aren't real adverts xD) You can make them whatever you wanna be :) add a few pics too :)
I'm gonna post mine as kinda an example..
Are you looking for your next eventer? A trustworthy pony that can take you up the levels? Then look no further.
Heathley Paddy (Samson) is a Traditional Irish Cob at stands at 14.2hh.
He is 12 years old and is sure to be a favourite. He stands for the vet, and is good to catch, shoe and box. Very easy on his shoes and feed.
He has three beautiful gaits and scores well in dressage, consistent with 6s,7s and 8s. Needs work with accepting the bit but never marked down for it in his tests. Snaffle mouthed.
Adores jumping, and is bold and brave cross country. Needs work on water complexes but always goes through with strong positive riding. Schools anything from 2'3-3'9 cross country. Placed and won 2'3 events, responding well in 2'9 competitions. Good pace over cross country courses, big stride for the size of him.
Perfect games pony, consistently wins and thoroughly enjoys them, eg. Flag races. one handed races, bareback races and highjump games.
Hacks in company or alone, loves long gallops. Lunges well and looseschools. Lives out or in.
Ridden and owned by the same teenager for three years, needs a strong and confident rider. Sale through no fault of his own.
£4,500 inc tack & rugs (you dont have to put a price.. i just did haha)

This is an awesome idea Alice :)
See, I would suck at trying to sell Billy. Sure, I could write him an add and people have always said the first to see him would snap him up just like that. However, I'm sure if it ever got to the point that someone did come and see him, I'd spend the entire time highlighting every flaw, every unwanted quirk, everything possible 'bad' side to him.. I'd convince them he was not the horse they wanted and by the time they'd got back to their home I'd have had his add removed and decided I'd never even attempt to sell him again because I couldn't possibly let him go. xD

I have a horse (foal) for sale. I suck at ads so I don't post them for sale on the internet.

If I were to ever sell one of mine who ever was interested would know EVERY little detail I could think of, every quirk, every bad habit, any thing and everything I could think.
Dilly, 15hh MorganX gelding. Awesome trail horse, is a great advanced beginners horse. goes english, western and bareback. Has gone to parks and loves it. Bathes, loads, ties, great for vet and farrier. Very easy to handle, first one to greet you in the pasture. Traffic/road safe child safe. I've had beginners anywhere from5 to 45 on him and he does great, he takes good care of them. No kick or bite, and great ground manners. If you are looking for a good depedable safe mount Dilly is your guy.

now anyone that would want to see him would know he is aggressive with other horses, he has bucked before, and he does need someone that knows how to discipline him or he will turn into a beast.
Snickers would be a bit more difficult... haha
Coming three year old filly, currently 14.3hh expected to mature to 15-15.2hh. She is very well behaved but is NOT for a novice. She is NOT a child's horse!! She loads, bathes, ties, is great for the farrier and vet. She knows her voice commands, walk, trot, whoa and stand. She has been ponied out on trail rides and loves it, is very well behaved and not spooky. She ahs been takced up adn sat on before, but is NOT started undersaddle yet. No kick or bite, and is very affectionate and lovable. She is very traffic and road safe, adn is used to going on walks and to new places. She ahs a lot of ground work and has amazing ground manners. She has a lot of potential as a low level jumper, or in speed competitions.

any body that would be interested in her would know that she has a tendency to have a strong dislike of small children, that she likes to test people.
All that being said it would kill me to sell either of them, I've had Dilly for 7 and a half years, done all of his training myself and he i my baby boy I love him to death, and I trust him with everything I have.. Snickers I've had since she was born she is my baby I would kill for her. I love them both very much, I have a very strong bond with both of them but the binds are different, if that makes sense.

If I ever had to get rid of my horse, Rashad, I wouldn't post an ad. I would send an e-mail to Farmers_wife and it would say, "It's your lucky day! You're just won a 28 yr old arabian gelding. Light trail riding only. Might possibly eat you out of house and home. Expensive daily supplements a must!" :D

Wow this kinda got me thinking ...KC is gonna be 17 already! I can't believe it, time has really creeped up on us. I know 17 isn't that old, but it seems like just yesterday he was 6!
It would be really hard to come up with an ad for him...

Lol it depends which horse I'd be selling.
I have sold Bullet recently and I wrote down every detail that I could think of. Added several videos and pictures...she sold the same day. The guy said he has seen everything he needed to see and loved her.
Sorry I don't have that ad any more.
If I were to sell Crystal it would look something like this:
3 year old bay mare for sale. Green broke. $50K non negotiable!
I think that would guarantee she stays put. :P
That horse will never be for sale. I'd rather not eat myself than to sell her. Honestly I don't even have it in me to pretend to write an ad...makes my stomach feel weird.

AllieO- Seriously my horse needs 2 owners to support him. Faith takes care of the main expected expenses (farrier and her hubby's the hay man) and we split the grain bill in half. I pay for all the unexpected expenses like emergency vet care, yearly vet expenses and anything extra like supplements. I get a great place for my horse to stay and she gets a horse that her kids can learn on and a horse that she trusts enough to just hop on and go. So far, it's worked out perfectly.

I'd do the same thing...if I could actually get the ad written...I have a feeling my ad would be pretty negative too ;)

Trouble with Scotch, or Trouble for short is a beautiful, energetic, light boned athlete. Her pedigree involves mostly racing blood Quarter Horses which results in her very long legs and athletic body. She is 8 years old and trained in both English and Western. An experienced rider is a must. Trouble is a loyal mount, but a confident rider is what she needs to take her far. She enjoys being ridden and worked and I have never seen her tired. She is easy to keep in shape but is a harder keeper during the winter months. She has one of the best extended trots I have ever seen and could easily succeed in dressage. She collects nicely and has an extremely smooth canter. She loads, clips, stands for the farrier, baths, and cross ties. Trouble has been successfully shown in western pleasure, english pleasure, showmanship and halter, as well as fun shows and gaming. She is a cool and easy tempered in the show ring. She crosses water with a bit of encouragement, perfectly sound, and does not easily spook. Up to date on all shots and has coggins. Trouble's only vice is geldings. Because of her past of being the only mare in a herd of 20 geldings before I bought her she is extremely stand offish with them in the pasture. The exception are calm and level headed geldings that don't drool over her. She also needs her space in the arena and will kick if a horse backs up into her. Will take people over all horses, to a GOOD home only.

If I ever had to sell Sierra the ad would read something like this!
For Sale:
12 year old overo Paint mare (non registered)
Started on barrels and shows incredible promise to take you to the pay window EVERY single time!
Needs a strong rider with more will power than she has! Not a moody mare but will definitely try to intimidate you if she thinks for one second that it might work.
NOT A BEGINNERS HORSE
She has trust issues with people but once she knows you she warms up quickly and would walk through fire for you.
Has had 1 foal by a beautiful Arabian stallion and is a great mother.
If you're interested in her, you can come take a look and a ride. If you still like her, you can whip out your wallet and start counting out the thousand dollar bills and I'll tell you when to stop (probably about 100 bills later).
NO TIRE KICKERS PLEASE!!
She's also hard to catch, you can probably tell from this picture
http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=819&pictureid=12066
Sierra doesn't load in trailers either so you'd have to ride her home. That means, if you're overseas there's no point in emailing me about her because she couldn't swim the ocean, although for the right person she'd try her big old heart out!
For more information on this crazy mare that nobody can handle and you really wouldn't want, you can call 555-idontthinkso! Clearly, by these pics, she's psycho and you don't want her. I'm willing to take one for the team and keep her with me! lol ;)

I like that this thread has turned into "What's wrong with my horse, and why you don't want him." :D
Legacy - Gorgeous grey paint gelding with great, smooth gaits! Won't let other people even try to get on him.
Dixie - Gorgeous, pristine black mare! Must stay clean 24/7. If she gets dirty, and that is not promptly remedied, she'll pout for days. Also green.
Pinto - Grumpy pony mare with a 'tude problem.
Daisy - Cute little roan/greying out filly. Wants to play... constantly.

My name is Solon. I will be 13 in June. My favorite things are to eat, sleep and poop. Usually in that order. If you can keep up with me, I just might be the horse for you. I don't like anything that binds around my waist. I don't like cold steel in my mouth. I don't like to be brushed, but I loved being scratched. I don't like getting horse gear for my birthday or Christmas but show me a cookie and I'll love you for life.
I don't like being in trailers - mostly because I can't fit in one. I don't like going faster than a trot. I see no need too. There really isn't anywhere I need to be in a hurry. I'm afraid of cattle, so I'm not going on any round ups any time soon. I can jump, but you have to scare the bejesus out of me to make that happen.
I'm afraid of rain storms and wind, but I don't like it too hot either. I love fans. I sit in front of them and make Darth Vader noises. I like dunking my food so I like my buckets to be cleaned out regularly. My peasant's barn owner is accusing me of being fat right now, but she's just hating on me. I look gooood.
So if you want to buy me, I will be taking interviews on Friday evenings between 4:00 and 4:05 p.m.
The truth is, I love my peasant and I wouldn't go with you anyway, but you could bring cookies and just come and look at me. I would let you do that.

haha nice idea ;)
jasper's would be simple.
"Jasper is for sale... yea, THAT Jasper. £5000, or highest bidder".
he has a waiting list lol.
seriously, would read:
Jasper (The J Factor), 16 year old BSPA-registered traditional irish cob, with good conformation and well marked, for sale to a good, competitive home only. Always placed in dressage (to novice level) and at show (county level), J shows three tidy, even paces and is well schooled. Snaffle mouthed, safe but never lazy. Loves to jump, competing up to 95cm show jumping and 85cm cross country, he is regularly placed as he makes up for his lack of straight line speed with accuracy and reliability. Hacks alone or in company, 100% in traffic, to clip, box or shoe. Regular star of local fetes, giving pony rides to small children and generally being adored. Totally un-phased by any environment. Ideal trec pony.
i would put in pics, but it won't let me :(
so i'll do Fergie too haha
Upperlochton Fergus, registered Highland pony, by Coulnacraig Highlander (HPS champion 199-something lol). 3 years old, grey dun, likely to mature into silver dun. Fergie is a well built, traditional 14,1 highland. He is an extremely friendly, people oriented pony, with a highly trainable temperament. Backed and broken (summer 09) happily hacking and schooling, trotting and cantering over poles before he was turned away. Fergie is an extremely active highland, with stunning paces, very light off your leg under saddle, and happily free schooling over jumps up to 95cm. his age and distinctly un-highland temperament make him unsuitable for inexperienced riders. However, his scope over fences and strong paces make him a good show prospect, in hand, ridden and in working M+M classes. his character and bravery in unusual situations also make him well suited to trec. Will excel in any riding club / PC activity.
And just for the record neither are for sale. nor will they ever be! well, over my dead body anyway :@

And I would go for it. He would eat me out of house alone. He eats more than my kids. But I would take him.:)

SWMS is right. I figured it cost about 175.00 a month and that includes grain, supplements and IF I had to pay for hay and bedding. That does not include farrier and vet. Just eating. It cost to feed a senior horse.

Sierra doesn't load in trailers either so you'd have to ride her home. That means, if you're overseas there's no point in emailing me about her because she couldn't swim the ocean, although for the right person she'd try her big old heart out!
For more information on this crazy mare that nobody can handle and you really wouldn't want, you can call 555-idontthinkso! Clearly, by these pics, she's psycho and you don't want her. I'm willing to take one for the team and keep her with me! lol ;)
