What breed is he? He has got to be draft I want to say fresian but there aren't any feathers that I can see. I don't know my drafts as much. He is pretty though I am a sucker for black horses.

He's a Percheron, Cheval owns a Perch as well.
He's a cutie Steve!! I have a friend who is starting to try and teach her Perchs to pull. . . do you often do training? Just curious. You're not to far from her and if it goes really wrong (lol) you might be just the ticket!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a beautiful horse!!!
There is this lady at the barn that told me my horse would be going grey soon. I asked her why and she said, "Percherons don't stay black". I was like, okay, that'll be your little secret.
What all are you going to do with him? You should show videos. Would love to see them. I just posted a video yesterday of fat boy running a bit in the pasture. He into a canter from a stand still.
You better be giving regular updates!!
Oh, and how could you want those silly brown fluffy feets of yours after having this regal equine on your property?!! I do not know how. ;)

Some do go grey...some don't...it's all in the genes.
What all are you going to do with him?
Manners, driving and riding....in that order. He's about 4 right now, and he's gonna be B-I-G when he gets done! But, he is lacking in social graces.
You should show videos. Would love to see them.
For a slight fee :p

Solon's getting white in his mustache and that's about it. If they go grey don't they start a lot earlier than 12? I thought they did.
Only 4? Wow, he is going to be a big boy. I can't wait to hear more!

Yes, very common. Black, and the dappled grey, as you mentioned. Magnificent horses.
