Today is the first day that Ive talked to someone who I actually want to come look at City.
She rides NBA, Ranch stuff, and trails.
She is looking for a horse to start and is Chris Cox oriented.
She sounds perfect for City and vice versa.

I was sooooo excited when she called me this morning to come see him, but now as time nears, Im a nervous wreck. She will be here any time.

I need to pull it together. I will NOT cry, I will stop shaking.

Breathe in, breathe out. Let her look, see how it feels.

And before he leaves, find a moment of complete focus and decide if you are doing something you really want to do.

Thanks you guys. It helps talking it out. Bob just called too to help me get past this.

This is what I want for City, he needs someone to work him. He LOVES it, craves it, strives for it.
If I can give him that in a new home, what more can I ask for!!

I will still have the option to bring Myst home if I decide.
Or, I can buy another horse like her.
Who knows, after they are gone, I may only want to rent a horse for an hour.
Right now, I only know that what I am doing IS the best for them.

John, my worker, came over, cleaned their living area, while I did the best brush job I could(He looks presentable under the circumstances)and he took those much needed pics Ive been wanting of the horses and me. So now I can get that DVD Ive wanted of them.

Oh, man. Be happy and know you're in control. If she's a good fit, then go for it, if she's not, then tell her you don't think it'll work for you. You have the right to pick City's new owner. Remember that. :)

And if you want to I'll chat with you tonight. I'd love to hear how it went.

UPDATE
City was a dream for her. He offered a kick now and then during free lunging, but she made him quit.
Shes a young girl, Id say in her early 20s and KNOWS her stuff.
She free lunged him, lunged him with a lunge line, then she rode him, yup, she rode City.
He knows that she knows her stuff.
I did have some happy tears now and then cause it was awesome seeing someone work him like I used to.
She had him doing some moves I have NO clue how to do, but City does.
Like I said before, City knows more than me, hes just not used.
They(mom and daugther)took pics and are going home to talk to the other 1/2(husband/dad).
They clicked very well.
They asked about price, I was firm on it, so we will see.

Good Luck Vicky, it sounds like a good match, I hope it works for all of you. I have to say I will be crying too when he goes to a new home, I know it'll be what you want and the best for him but I will miss hearing about him. I love your horses even though I never met them I feel like I know them. If I thought I could handle him [I'm not a great rider] I would have horsenapped him and Myst long ago! When I first came to the forum I fell in love with them and Morgan's April. I was THIS CLOSE to April when she was being sold but in the end we knew we couldn't afford 4 but I wanted her so badly we talked and talked about it, even thought of going to meet her and it was a doable thing since we're both in PA not all that far from each other but it was the $ that got in the way, it's always about the miserable $.

Will be waiting for an update, what ever is meant to be will happen. I don't have to tell you that, you know it.

Doe they live close to you? It sounds good. Did you feel that "Certain Connection" thingy with the two of them? Is that even possible?. Looking forward to an update.

Im sure Ill get the call. She had that look in her eye when she said they will definitely call.
I let City stay in the round pen and hang for a bit, roll, munch on what grass there was.
I then went out and walked him, he is tired. Heck, he hasnt been ridden sense Oct a yr ago.
He has some wet spots where the saddle was but wasnt warm. Hes a hard one to make sweat, except for his saddle area and chest. I walked him cause Im sure he may be a bit sore later if I didnt. Looked like he'd rather sleep though. I took him back out to Myst, gave him a brush down, for what I could, and I think he is going to nap now...LOL
Oh, and they live about 3 hrs east of me!!

vicklynn
02-17-2010, 03:47 PM
Thank you all.
I had someone ask, what if they make an offer, will you counter offer.
Considering the horse is worth more than 2K with a rider like her, which he would only be sold to someone like her, my husband says no, and I have to agree with him. I was told Im selling low for him, that I should of asked more, but I am just standing firm on the 2K. Thats pretty cheap for a horse with his foundation and knowledge. Heck, anyone with knowledge like her can ride him, he proved that. Just need to find people with knowledge that arent stupid around horses.
She is one that isnt stupid and has knowledge.

Remember that trainer I had him under for that week. I always said she was to soft on him, and with that said, is probably why he bucked on lunge with her. He was bord.

This girl should be a trainer!!! We dont have enough good ones in the area.

LOL..probably not.

After thinking about it, checking some other adds, I probably should take an offer.
Can I use that money to go by me a nag with that then? LOL
I am so kidding.
I told hubby, he said ok, not totally happy about it.
He's worth the money Im asking.

So ya, if it places him in a home where I am comfortable with, Ill take an offer, but Im coming back with a higher number than their offer, they will expect it.

So, ya, me picky, ya, um, I guess...LOL

I'm really glad they clicked and City liked her. When I had to find Even his retirement home, it was so hard, but once the people came out to see him, I knew it was the perfect match. They loved him and saw that same something special in him that I do so it made me feel more comfortable.

What kind of contract are you going to ask for? I have a really great one for Even, but it's more of a life-lease type deal. They can't move him with out notifying me, sell him, give him away, do certain activities on him, etc. They have to maintain a certain standard of care and condition, must receive his supplements, and if anything happens to where he has to be put down, they have to notify me first with the provision that if the vet says he is suffering too much and it needs to be now, then that is the exception. It really helps me be more comfortable with him being 3 hours away. I didn't get that with my first pony when I sold her (can't find her now) so it was a big fear of mine that Even would disappear too....

I probably wont have something strick.
I will have first buy back rights.
I may ask for them to let me know if something happens to him and he needs put down.
Im not leasing, Im selling, and I dont think I have a right to tell them what to do if I search out the right home first.

Ive had time to think about some things over night.
My questions to her would be, are you going off to college, if so, what are you going to do with City?
Where do you work?
Of course she will have to be able to afford feed, med bills, ect.

I am thinking about a clause in the contract about the buy back during the yr, injured or same health makes price the lower or the same, or after a yr but only at a certain higher price, IF he has been riden constantly, or he buys back at the original price. Hopefully that will tell me that she is buying for good.
I think she is going to ride him. I just dont know if she has college on her mind, what her work situation is.

The college question is a good one. I hope this is the right match and that when you get the answers to your questions you will feel good about it if she decides to go for it. I really don't think I'd be as brave as you are. My boys should probably not be with me since I don't do much with them [Delta gets used about every day in the spring, summer and fall] but yet I can't let them go because I'm so afraid Sarge's eyes will be ignored and he'll end up in a kill pen, Rompy I know would go back to the preserve in VT but would probably go to another approved home but I don't know if he could handle it. He's so sensitive. They don't even like to be ridden, they like to be played with though [Rompy will play fetch only it's me doing the fetching, he throws the jolly ball, I go for it and give it to him and he throws it for me again. Either that or I throw it and we both chase it!] which I do so it's a different situation but sometimes I feel like they should be shown how to work at their full potential but they seem very happy, they play all day when they aren't eating!

If we have a nice spring and summer we will work but the past 2 yrs we've had nothing but rain, I can't do much when it's so slippery out. Good Luck, only good thoughts for all involved. I will cry alot when they leave you and they are't even my horses but you are doing a great job finding the best homes for them and having the buy back claus for City so you know he'll be yours again if something happens. You are so brave, I wish I was 1/2 as brave.

I think it shows an interested owner that wants what is best for her horse. I don't see anything wrong with same buy back price during the first year, after may be pushing it but that's just my opinion. I don't have a lot of experience buying/selling horses. I think if more people asked more questions then maybe some of the abused/neglected horses out there wouldn't have ended up where they did. Ask all the questions you want Vick, it's you that has to be comfortable with selling City cause like you've said you don't have to. If she really is the one for City then she will understand you wanting to make sure he goes to the right home.

I could see a clause that you get right of first refusal if she decides to sell but I think if she puts a lot of training and work in him, that it's not fair that she would have to sell him back at the price she bought him.

I would not ask for her to sell him back at the same price if he is worked. You missed that part, but its ok:).
I did get a call from her mom today, and will have an answer tomorrow for sure.
The words "very interested" were mentioned along with "plans for City are already being made".
I will talk with her more on the contract as we have skimmed it and I will make it a happy contract on both parts!
I was told that she(the daughter)wants to be a horse trainer, not go to college, that they are backing her. That is a HUGE plus for me, and City.
I told mom that she would be a great trainer and to keep that dream.
Honestly, here, I see trainers to soft or to hard, none in the middle like her.
She will go far if she keeps her dream alive. Ya never know, she may be the next Chris Cox, Clinton Anderson, ect. She was that good!!!

So, Ill know tomorrow folks. Right now Im pretty stoked.

Also, I had a great therapy session. This is the first day Ive worked and not felt like I was tossed into a wall! I did my ABCs with a 2lb weight!!! Thats laying on my back of course...LOL

Anyway. Keep up the good thoughts on this girl as she is #1 in the book.

I remember when my mini was sold. I'd rescued her from a bad backyard breeder, brought her home on my lap, trained her to drive. She was my baby!! I didn't know the people would bring a trailer when they came to see her, but one look at the buyer lady's face and I knew I'd let her take my girl. She was smitten. She wanted to ride home in the trailer with Dolly. It was soo cute. Me and her husband had to drag her out of the trailer. When they left my mom and I just burst into tears, then we'd laugh, then we'd cry. Back and forth. It was the strangest thing I've ever experienced. It probably was, like WB said, bittersweet. Sadness mixed with utter joy!

I'm sure they will give you updates and keep in contact with you to let you know how things are going.

This is a good thing, your heart knows it but this girls heart is about to grow with love for City as you have for him.:)

Bittersweet it is.. A happy and sad time for you. Glad you found someone to buy City. She does sound perfect for him. It is important that you are comfortable with the person and place he is going to and it seems to be that way. It will help to make it easier for you when the day comes that he leaves you. Just always remember it is for him you did this.. You are a good Mom Vick.:) Hope she joins our forum so we can see pictures and updates.

You know you are a good mom. Not everyone could do what you are doing, I know I couldn't, I guess I'm too selfish or I worry too much what ever the reason. I admire you so much. I will miss that beautiful boy, I know Lisa will keep everyone updated on Myst but if the girl doesn't join the forum or keep in touch with you [I hope you will] we won't get to see that beautiful face. I hope she takes him before we know it or I will be in hysterics just thinking about it. I know I'm no help. You are so brave and so unselfish. Give them both hugs and you too and the puppies.

This is wonderful news, Vicklynn. I'm happy they didn't counteroffer the price because City is well worth your asking price no doubt and they could see that too. I know it will be hard on you and hopefully the mom and daughter will join the forum or keep you informed of City's journeys with lots of pic's and video's ... it will put good tears in your eyes to replace the sorrowful tears. It sounds like a perfect match and maybe you will be able to visit City or go to a show he is entered in that would be great.

Warmly, Stacy

Thanks All!
((HUGS))Vacker Hast. I hope you find your mount soon!

I am writing the contract now. Making it simple and short with still keeping everyone happy.
Just got a call back for address and I am back in tears. Ive been fighting them all morning.
I cant wait for those sorrowful tears to pass.

I think Im going to ask them when they come tomorrow(depending on the weather)(daughter wanted to come today)if we can sign the paperwork first, then they load and go.
I have to contact someone to be here. Bob is upset that he wont be here for me. He said he got those pics I sent him and it brought tears to his eyes. Bob dosnt cry, so this is hitting him that I am doing this.
He knows how much I love that boy. Bob wont be home until Sunday afternoon ?. Id wait, but I cant make the weather hold and day by day it changes. The sooner this is done, the sooner I can start working on healing my heart.

Thank you all for standing by me on this.
I asked before that you stood by me and not talk me out of it, and you did.
That means alot to me.

You have everyone's support, as much as we know how much you love him you know he needs more and this sounds like the perfect match like you couldn't have hand made anyone better. She loves him, he acts good for her and if it doesn't work out you get him back so it's win win for everyone. It is sad though, there is no getting around that.

Wow. What a gorgeous picture. I am so sad for you - I haven't been able to find the happiness yet. Sorry! I guess I'm one of the selfish ones ... I'm sorry I don't know the reason behind your having to sell City - but I assume it was inevitable. You are a very strong woman to have let go of something you love so much. I know I have already posted on this thread, but I just had to say how good of a person you are. I hope your not thinking that you are letting him down, because you are doing the opposite. There are soooo many people out there who dont know when their horse needs something more, but you realized that and are being so unselfish and doing something for him, no matter how hard it is for you. Just try to think of it that way, how strong and brave you are being. Sure a lot of other people couldnt do it, im not sure if I could

I'm so glad you joined so we'll be able to keep up with "our" boy, I think this whole forum thinks of Vicky's horses as their own so it's ripping us all up. She is so brave, I couldn't do it. I'm like the worst rider, if I was good he'd be here, same with Myst but there's no way I could give either what they need [I have threatened to horsenap them though! It's a good thing we're so far from each other! Her horses and dogs I want to kidnap!] so I've just been sitting here hoping there would be someone who would come along she'd feel comfortable handing her baby off to and you're the one. I wish you all the luck in the world and make him shine like we all want and now we won't feel like we've lost him. Thanks for joining!
