I'm an Equine Vet Tech on the Critical Care Service at Auburn University's Large Animal Hospital... LOVE MY JOB!!!
But actually I have a bachelors degree in Agricultural Business and Economics. I worked for a year in the 'business' world as a Six Sigma Specialist and a Specs Cooridinator. I was too miserable sitting behind a computer and working for an international money grubbing corporation! So I took a hell of a pay cut, but have a job I love now! Oddly enough I started out in college a pre-vet major, but couldn't stand all the chem and bio. Everyone asks me if I'm gonna go back now that I work there... NO WAY. I have no desire to be a vet. Now that I know what they have to go through, I don't want to do the schooling, and don't want to have that responsibility of knowledge and decision. I love doing all the work and taking none of the credit!

I am the Director of I.T. for a science & engineering consulting firm. I've got a department of 21 for a company of about 1,000 in 25 offices around the U.S., Europe and China. January was my 20th anniversary with the company. I came to IT by a curious route. I started out as a staff accountant in 1990, and over a few years slowly started doing more databases, programming, and network admin... and less and less accounting. I've been exceptionally lucky... was in the right place at the right time and was tapped to take over the IT department when the old director left in 1999.
Before that I was a Coastie. Before that I went to Washington State. Go Cougs! :)

Basically if someone will pay me to do it, and it's legal, I'll do it.
I work/train horses, dog-sit, house-sit, tutor, edit, babysit my brother and our stray human(s), and their friends... and I'm my grandparents' personal chaffeur to any and all doctors appointments (the rich grandparents pay decently well). I keep up with my Papa's doctors appointments and refill his medications... while going to school full-time, majoring in secondary english education (I'm going to teach highschool english - eventually I'd love to teach the honors and AP kids... but they don't generally just hand those jobs over - I'm considering getting SPED certification). I'm trying to get an actual job somewhere - but for some reason it just doesn't fit into my schedule.
Someday I want to have my own barn and a boring life... but that's a someday, not a today... or a tomorrow. :)

I'm a Real Estate Agent and stay at home Mom. I'm lucky because my husband works second shifts so on the days I have showings I just leave my kid with my hubby and he drops him off with my Mom or my Dad and I pick him up when I'm done. It works out great for us!!
I'm also a photographer on the weekends. I almost did that for a living but I didn't want it to become a job. . .I like it as a hobby.
All this is fairly funny considering I have a Bachelors Degree in Animal Science, (science option) and had planned to go to vet school. . .Biochemestry 411 did me in!!
TheJFactor&Fergie what are you studying about Rhodococcus? I know it well. The ranch I used to work at had it in the fields and had yearly outbreaks around foaling time. IT was NOT fun. And one of my best friends is a Dr of Molecular Biology. Not something you see around very often! She goes to paris for fruit fly conventions. I think that's awesome! lol

I am a (medically) retired Army SSG. In the Army I was an electronic technician, and computer programmer, among other things :)
After getting out of the Army, I spent ...oh...22+ years as a Software Engineer. When I finally got drafts, I learned farrier work, with the intention of only doing my own horses. Getting laid off and being pretty good at farrier work has changed my life 180 degrees. I have gone from a software engineer and part-time farrier to a farrier, and part-time software engineer!
I also do a bit of training drafts too.:)

I am a calf feeder at a dairy farm. I've been there for almost a year and a half. The milking herd has about 600 cows in it so I'll get about that many calves in a year. The calf barns can handle close to 200 calves. All the heifers go to individual pens until weaning while the bull calves are in groups of 8. With the individual pens the calves are growing so much bigger it's just crazy. Since I've been there calf mortality is waaay down, I rarely lose a calf :-) The dairy is in the process of building some new cow barns and a new milking parlor. With the new barns the calving area will be much more controlled/monitored/clean than it is now so I should have even less problems. When I'm not busy feeding/vaccinating/treating/cleaning up after the calves I spend time in the milking parlor. I don't mind milking but I'd rather be with the calves. The only down side to my job is the long hours. With the new milk barn they shouldn't need me for milking and then I'll get to go home between am/pm calf feeding. Right now I'm stuck there all day, 10-12 hrs.

I'm 17 so my options are limited. I work at Arbys, it's been almost 3 years now. I also "work" at a barn. As part of the show team, we take turns doing barn chores and cleaning tack, etc and we keep track off our hours, and what we work subtracts from our cost of lessons and the show team package, which is a monthly fee that covers all entry fees, trailering, hotels, extra lessons, etc.
Also, my mother works at Adcare Educational Institute, and I have been offered hours closer to summer that would have me doing data entry for what they call "summer school" and calling people who may have left off data on their applications.

SNAP! (well practically!) I have a bachelors in Veterinary Sciences, I was actually on the vet med course for a time but hated it!
I'm investigating the roles of metabolism genes in the ability of equi to cause disease - mutating some genes, seeing if any of them are weakened by the loss of that gene... The ideal end result would be a vaccine, but that is a long long LONG way off!
It's not a disease that's very common round here (it's too wet and cold in Britain) so i have no first hand experience. It's nice to meet someone who does - reminds me why I'm working on it! It must horrible to witness the outbreaks and see the affected foals.
Ha that's pretty cool! I can just imagine that in conversation "oh you've been to Paris? what did you get up to there?" "well, there were these fruit flies and...".
So much really interesting science is done in fruit flies (which is kinda random really lol) so I'm sure she gets up to fascinating stuff!

I spent 17 years in High Tech Sales. Mostly selling network products through the distribution channes. Did 18 months consulting to IBM and 3 years at AT&T selling data netowrks like ATM and Frame Relay. Got tired of spending every week on airplane and living in hotel rooms half the week. So 10 years ago I bagged the computer industry and took up my part time job of building homes. So instead of building 1 or 2 homes a year, I built 15 year.
Housing industry crashed, so I'm looking for new career. Any suggestion?
I realy enjoyed being a General Contractor. Being the boss, gave me the freedom to sneek away for lots of horse rides. Plus when I drive through an area, I can point at a building and say, I built that and it'll be here long after I'm gone. vs selling high tech and knowing what ever computer solution I sold would be outdated and replaced in 2 years.

Yeah Rhodococcus was less fun than the strangles outbreak we had that year. . . what was even worse was the foals started arriving at the tail end of the strangles outbreak and we had 300 mares foaling out and it was impossible to keep them all separate so some of them got Rhodococcus AND strangles. . . I don't think we lost any (at least I don't remember losing any there at that ranch) but we went through a lot of money treating everyone for the rhodococcus and it sure made those babies lives miserable!! I gave so many hiney baths that year that I barely had time for my real job! I wish you luck in your study!! That'd be a good thing to be able to vaccinate against!

Professional Student.... going on 5 years :)
I feed and clean stalls for my trainer on the side and work every summer. Last summer (and possibly this summer now too) I was the Equestrian Director at a Girl Scout Camp. I've also been a Life Guard, worked at a daycare, been a waitress, worked at a video store, trained horses, broke out babies, bred hedgehogs, and been an automobile parts delivery person. Whatever makes a buck...

I currently hate my job. I became an at home appointment scheduler almost exactly 4 years ago with the intention of having an income to buy and support a horse. I did that and mostly enjoyed my job until last summer when the economy having to do with market finally hit and things changed. I'm still doing the same job with a different employer but things have changed and I no longer enjoy it AT ALL.
I have a BA in Economics and have several classes completed on the way to an accounting degree but have not yet finished and don't know if I will be able to. I stayed at home with my kids from 1997-2006 and don't regret it. I loved being there for my girls but now feel a bit left behind at my job options. I wouldn't care so much except my horses depend on my income as my husband is not horsey at all. He supports it in that he knows its my passion but would not sacrifice our income to pay for them. I need to find a new job I can enjoy. :( But I guess there are many like me. Mostly I'm just thankful I have a job and a have them because I'd be miserable without them.
I work at the YMCA. Watching daycare kids. Love my job---off to college next year and majoring in Early Childhood Education. I've been teaching kids at church for as long as I can remember. I love them. :)I'm a first-year student in ECE actually. :o It's not really my thing, but I'm trying to get a good stepping stone into teaching. I think I want to teach kids around the age of 9 or 10, not 18 months.
I'm also a server in a restaurant. :) I love it.

I'm currently majoring in Agricultural Science, in the pre-vet program, but there's about a 90% chance that will change by the end of May.
My new idea is a Psychology major and a possible Health Science minor. I want to work in a treatment program with kids with eating disorders.
Over the summer, I'm a camp wrangler! :happydance:

Over my work experience I have been a Vet Tech, a salesman, a custom auto upholstery installer and designer, a deli clerk, an Air Force Cop, a personal trainer, a stay home mom, even tried my hand at being a novelist for a short time (it is more of a hobby though), and now I am braking horses and giving beginning riding lessons part time. I start school this upcoming year for Equine business management. When my hubby retires from the Air Force I am opening my own boarding stable and hopefully if things go my way I will be breaking mustangs professionally too. But until then I am a jack of all trades and a master of none.

I do free lance writing, internet marketing, and animal-sitting. I don't make a whole lot of money at the moment but I'm a senior in high school and I live with my parents so it's all good.
Next year or possibly later this year I'd like to go to school to become a certified vet tech. When I "grow up" (if that ever happens ) I'd like to work part time as a vet tech and part time doing internet marketing until the internet marketing kicks in and then do that full time. With the internet marketing I'll have super flexible hours so I'd also love to do horse training on the side. It's going to be a while before I start making a real income with that, though. I still have to devote many, many more hours of planning, advertising, designing and building more content before I'll see any substantial profits.

I am a paid fire fighter/ EMT. I am also as outriding would call it: a professional college student. I have been in school since I graduated high school with a few semester off here & there. I have ran into some difficulties over the years with getting into college programs and moving and a bunch of other stuff. I love my job but I want to be a nurse or something that will have a retirement and career. Being a fire fighter/EMT is hard on the body & hard on the soul. I love EMT & fire fighting and I will never never give it up but I won't do it forever full time. Thats about it that I get paid for!

Everyone has such interesting jobs!
I went to school for Coding/Abstracting/medical records, but have been working doing "whatever" now for quite some time after losing my last full time job over a year ago..... just found out today that I got a data entry job at one of the local hospitals in town in the patient financial planning department.....yay!!
I always wanted to be a park ranger tho! :)

I work at natisha's barn, and have worked at a couple barns before this (none as good as hers :innocent:). I love my job, but I'm going to college next year for Biochemistry, Pre-Pharmacy, and Pre-Veterinary. Wish me luck! I've been told it's tough. I want to be an equine veterinarian with an emphasis on surgery.

I am a retired Army guy. Currently I work as a Life Flight helicopter pilot. (my real job)
Among other things I am also a part time cowboy, people trainer (horses already know it) fly fisherman.
I'm thinking about another career and I'm really torn between Brain surgery and chicken wrestling. They are both messy so I don't know.
Maybe there will be an opening at Natisha's barn it sounds like a good place to work.
