I knew something was wrong when I rode her earlier and she was kicking out left and right when I squeezed. I at first thought something was pinching her in the saddle, checked her up and down, but she seemed fine. So I left her be, got the kids started on school work, came back out to clean paddocks and she was just standing in the corner looking peeved off.

I start cleaning and she doesn't come over to bug me, normally if I'm in there cleaning she is right at my shoulder watching. She just looked miserable. So I went to check her again and when I ran my hand down her belly she did something very unlike her, she kicked out at me. I gently listened to her gut sounds and she was a little quiet but there were some sounds.

Called my sister, talked about it, I gave her a small dose of benimine and now I'm just watching. She just looks upset and miserable, she hasn't tried to lay down or she isn't really restless just extra crabby.

My poor girl.

Im sorry your going through this.
Have you tried hand walking her to see if she will pass gas? Sometimes a good long walk, like your walking your dog will perk them up.
Do you have a trailer? Take her for a short ride, see how she does.

Please, please try to get her checked out. Better a small big now than a big bill or worse later. I wish you the best.

Oh I hope things will be OK. Might be just gas colic, but I would still put a call into the vet.

Keep us posted. My thoughts are with you and Gracie.

I hope Gracie is alright. I would take her for a walk and she if she has gas or is just having trouble passing manure.

I just came back in from watching, her. She released quite a large poop and seems to be feeling better. I'm gonna keep watching her however.

Looks like just a mild tummy ache but I'm watching non the less.

I just saw this thread. I hope she's feeling better now. This is the time when the weather is all funky and it's hot one day and cold and rainy the next. I know this is the time that Muffin gets belly aches sometimes but all it takes is some walking and usually he passes gas and he feels better. He gets sluggish when it warms up and he still has his winter coat on, I think he moves around less and gets backed up. Then it gets cold again for a few nights and he's spunky.

I hope Gracie is feeling better and she just needed to move around some and get her system moving. I'm sure that shocked you when she kicked out. At least you know now that if she's not feeling good she might kick.

Let us know how she's doing and I hope it was just a little episode and she's fine now.

She is doing very well now. She is acting normal, walking around squealing and kicking at Vicor over the fence, so yup back to normal. hahaha

Iris- she is extremely well behaved with people, great ground manners so her kicking out at me was a sure sign she was upset.

She passed a huge pile about an hour after I gave her some banamine and looks like there is another smaller pile in her paddock since then.

I'm still watching her just in case but I think she is fine now. :D
thanks everyone
Think she knew mom need something to fuss over to keep my mind off the "boyfriend" issues? I just wish next time she won't resort to scaring the manure out of me. :D

Good going momma! Way to spot those signs early! And a nice little dose of banamine usually does the trick if you get it that early. Now just be sure to keep lots of water for her. Might even make her a nice soupy snack with grain or bran mixed with water!

Isn't it funny how they change attitude like 180 when they don't feel good. I don't know if anyone remembers the mare I used to have, Parsnips. But one day I rode her and she was an angel, just acted perfectly. And that was totaly not her, she was the poster child for every bad rumor about a OTTB and a mare. I thought I was finally making progress with her, until I put her up for dinner and she turned her nose up! CRAP! Run around town trying to find some banamine. Gave her banamine and some electrolytes and she was fine! And was unfortunatly back to her normal self the next day!

Again! So glad you caught it early! Hope she continues to improve!
