If I die today it is nice knowing everyone. In 30 min I am leaving to go to a skid pad.
That is where I am taking a bus (because I drive school bus) to a skid pad and go 55mph on ice and then put on the breaks. I have been told the bus might go sideways. :( I AM DEAD......... I am already having a panic attack. I need to borrow a depend because I might pee my pants. All the drivers are just waiting for my turn.
So if I do not come back alive.... I will miss you all.
Ok I know I will be ok but it is scary. well gotta get ready and go. Hope to see you all later.

Good luck, I'd be nervous too but if you drive a school bus you must sort of have nerves of steel, it seems like you would dealing with all the kids and parents and weather conditions! Hope it all turns out and you come back all safe with some good pictures!

I'm sure you'll be fine. Would love to see pictures though. Is this a training that all drivers have to do in the winter? I've never heard of it before?

You will be fine and do a great job. I do have a favor to ask though----- I have a few students who I think would behave better if they had the shiznit scared out of them, can they be passengers??? PLEASE!!!!!

Films, films!
And good luck - you'll be fine. If it wasn't safe they wouldn't let you do it (this is my best bit of reasonable speech ever)!

I can understand the scared feeling. I don't drive on ice...I just don't. Funny how if you wanted to make that bus spin in circles you'd probably really have to work at it. However, since you don't, at least for me, I'd probably be dizzier than Paris Hilton from all the spins that I'd accomplish. In the end, I'm sure things will be fine, and my comment probably wasn't as uplifting as I intended it to be; its just been that sort of day for me.:(

Yep! Totally agree! Got to be much better than doing it with a big ol' station wagon! That's how I learned to handle ice, lol! Darn thing swung like a pendelum- notorious for doing 180's or 360's on its own just for grins, I swear!
Darn- should be an update by now...

I AM ALIVE....... I made it thru the course. First I took the bus and just went thru a course. Backing and trying not to hit cones. Easy.. Then the next course - there is 3 red lights up a head and you go 30mph and right when you get up there one of the lights (left or right) will turn green and at the last minute you have to turn the bus that way and then serpintine (sp?) 3 cones. I did that and it was fun. Next course was there were 5 cones in a row and you have to weave thru the cones. Stating out at 20mph and ending at 28mph. I think I was on 2 wheels:). That was a little scary. But I did it. The last one was water. Not cold enough for ice so water. But we had to go 40mph and when we came up on the cones we had to press hard on the breaks. Bus did go a little side ways. We had to do 3 different ways to stop. So I did real good. I am alive.
Thanks for wishing me well.
I have some pictures but I have to load them yet.

FW, did you have to go to Dakota tech school for that? That is where I took my instructors course for emergency vehicle driving. It's a blast when you learn what your vehicle can actually do. I took the original course at St. Cloud. I bet it is a lot more tricky in a bus than my pickup/squad.

How did I miss this thread?? I'm sorry!! So, will they make you go back and try when it's colder? I would have loved to come and watch. :D What would they do if you got in REAL trouble? :(
So did you need the depends? J/K :p

I think that anyone that drives a schoolbus has earned a combat medal.
Bless your patient soul.
