Rowdy is going to be 3 in March, so we took him to his first colt starting clinc. This is the colt we got from Rockyridge awhile ago, and I wanted to share some pictures of his day with everybody.

Rowdy looking at our instructor like "uuuhhh, what do you want me to do?"

Rowdy was such a good boy, I was so very proud of him! It was 78 miles to the clinic, and Rowdy was so well behaved in the trailer. When we got home and unloaded him, he walked out and acted like he was such a "big" boy now.
He is going to a Parelli students place for more training and his first ride in 2 weeks!

Thanks for letting me share!

Awww, what a good boy! I'm glad you shared with us and please keep us updated! This is my colt's three year old year also so I enjoy watching the progress of the other forum horses that are in the same place in their training. :)

It is nice to hear and see some positive things about the RR horses.

What a cute little guy he's turned into. Reminds me a bit of my little man, who is also turning three this year and was also bought (rescued really) from a bad situation. I'm so glad to see Rowdy found a home where he's obviously well cared for and loved. Good luck with him :)

How tall is he anyway? My guy has barely hit horse size. My vet said he's stunted due to the mare being starved during her pregnancy. I never realized that in the womb nutrition could play such a huge role later on in life. I mean, I've had him since he was born and made sure the mare had the best nutrition possible (she gained 250-300lbs while nursing him). I thought I'd gotten him out of there on time, but still he's a just a little guy.

Duh, I just re-read your post and realize you said he was almost 3. He looks small for 3 with his breeding.

Love----I know MANY of the RR young ones where stunted with their growth. But with good love and feed most bounced back.

Rowdy is about 14.2 now. He seems to be going through a gangly stage, he stretched and leaned up. RR said that after he turns 3 is when he will start growing and filling out.

I am 5'10, so he definitely looks even smaller, next to me!!:p I hope he does get a little bigger and widen up though. I had him on Junior feed until he was 2 1/2, then the vet said I should just feed alfalfa now. He is going to be getting a lot of education and exercise this month!

Looks like you guys are off to a good solid start.

I too like to see your progress with your youngin like Irisgreen's Muffin report, As the VHL's Remy's revolve into a true saddle horse and all the others.

Keep up the good work and please, keep us posted:)

Most Appys and QH's get the majority of their height by the age of 3. They go wide and fill out more after that. Once in a while you will get one that goes up a bit after the age of 3, but not much.

Glad you gave him such good feed. He did NOT have that before.
