Just before August 09 I had lost 28lbs and I was very happy with my weight.
I am happiest at a size 32 or 33 jean size, weighing at or just around 170.
It works for me. I cant weigh light like alot of women do, Id be emancipated, or 6 under if I did.
So, anyway, sense August, well after, say around Nov, I started slowing gaining it ALL back and am wearing a size 34 and need a 35:banghead:. I have NEVER needed a size 35.
So, I have a treadmill and I have a plan. I started it this morning. This will be my log so I HAVE to do it. I want to walk 2 to 3 times a day.
March 6, 2010
AM, walked 9/10ths of a mile, got my heart rate up, burned 112 calories
Me at 170, wearing a size 32

WHOOHOO Girl, YOU GOOOOO!!!!
Good luck with the treadmill. I have one and LOVE it. I put in my training DVD's (all horses LOL) and work out to them for about 30 to 45 minutes.
I started out with walking for about 15 minutes, then stepped it up a little in speed and 5 more minutes. I'm now jogging for about 4-6 minutes with 2-3 minutes of power walk then back to my jogging. I do this for 30-45 minutes (sometimes more) 30 minutes = 2 miles 45 minutes = 2.5 miles.
Just a suggestion: Do some stretches first to loosen up those muscles, even walking you should do some stretching;)
Keep it up:)

Good luck with the treadmill! I have one and since I got the birds I have no room for the treadmill so it sits in the garage. I hope you don't get sick but this virus I have had since Tues. has been a killer and I have lost 10 lbs. in the blink of an eye. A very hard and miserable way to loose weight, I needed it gone but I was hoping to exercise it off and stop eating the wrong things! I lost 68 lbs 5 yrs ago and kept it off with no trouble [I still have alot of weight in my stomach though, everything is thin, jeans are so hard to buy because I need a bigger waist and thin hips and legs!] then when Noah died I started to eat things I hadn't had in 5 yrs and it started to come back. It sure comes back faster than it goes off!!! It's gone now but it hasn't been fun at all!
Hope you'll be where you want to be. I know what you mean about not having the body type to be real thin, my best friend from High School is like that, her mother always thought she should be small like me, back then I was like 80 lbs and 5' tall with tiny bones [I was 13-19 then I went up to 90 and stayed there for yrs 'til I gained alot of weight.] and she was bigger because her frame is bigger plus she's tall. Her mother wouldn't feed her hoping she'd loose weight so she'd come to our house and my mother would shove food in her since my mother loves feeding people! If she was real thin she'd look awful, her body type is perfect how it is. Not everyone is meant to be a size 0. I'm not a zero either, I'm small on top and my legs are like chicken legs but then I have that huge stomach! I need 32 waist jeans when I weigh 104!
Have fun. I didn't mind the treadmill when I could use it. If I go to the stable alot I can drop weight pretty easy just from walking back and forth between the front of the barn to the arena watering everyone or throwing saddles around etc. but this winter I haven't been going because of the cold and trying to make Puppy a normal dog, I just started eating things I hadn't been eating [Crying about Noah and shoving food in my mouth, like 4 ice cream sandwiches a day, I don't even like ice cream!] and the lbs added up in no time.

Well, my legs are worn out today..LOL
I didnt tread mill tonight. I took Myst for a walk around the neighborhood then worked her in the round pen. Lil miss sassy pants thought she could get smart with me when we got home..LOL.
I am soooo tired. I had a work out all day today(had other chores I did due to the sun shine)
So, Im not gonna feel bad about it, cause I did get a work out, even if it wasnt on the tread mill.
Back at the tread mill tomorrow!!!

Good luck! We know you can do it!:)
We have a treadmill in our basement that I run on two or three times a week. I personally hate running inside, it's so boring and HOT because our wood burner in in the basement. I always listen to my mp3 player and crank up the tunes which helps a little, but it's still a very long, very painful two miles. I always listen to the song "No Boundries" on the last stretch when I'm ready to keel over because I find it very motivating!:p Lol, I'm such a dork.:innocent::p
I like running outside much better.:) In the summer time I like to get off work at 5:00, change into my running clothes, and go for a run through the neighborhood. Or sometimes I'll just hop in my mom's Ford Escape and drive the 5 miles to town in the evening around 6:30 or 7:00 and go running. I have a route worked out that is approximately two miles not counting the little stretch that I walk to warm up. It's a lot more entertaining to run outside.:)

LOL Dakota, I ran enough in the military and just cant do it any more. Id rather take a long fast walk on the tread mill. I also turn the music up. I cant wait to get healed and start rearranging this house. Ill have my comp room back where it was and the tread mill in here where I am now.

Lol, I'd rather not run too, but I have to. If I don't workout I'll get fat (or fatter) and I need to be in shape. And my dad would bug me so bad if I stopped, he likes to make me run, lol. I run usually two times a week now, and he's always bugging me to run more. He's right, I should run more. It's just so boring on the treadmill!

Way to go Vick! I just got a treadmill a little over a month ago and started this thing called "The Couch to 5K plan" and it's 9 weeks, 3 times a week for 30 min. each. By the end of it - I should be able to run 3 miles (5k) in 30 min. I am on the beginning of week 5 and I am already down 5 lbs and feeling great!

TY miatapony.
March 7. 2010
AM 1.1 miles, 133 calories
I stepped it up today, which took a bit longer to get my heart rate down. Ill back down a bit on that, but not to much.
Depending on how the day goes, as I have alot to do, depends on the PM.
I need to work up to this I know. Heck, Im not used to doing as much as I am now, but it sure feels good.
Maybe I should just do once a day for now. Im probably asking to much of myself to start off.
Now, on to PT exercises.
vicklynn

March 8th. No workout, had PT
March 9th
Just over 1 mile, calories 104
I think I found my place right now. Warm up to a speed of 2.9, incline of .5, and it keeps my heart rate up, yet not makes me need to adjust until my cool down, which should be 2 minutes. For me anyway.
So, for now, thats what I will do. Hope to up that by next week.
Darn Horsefest is this weekend. If I miss a work out I wont worry, I walk my butt off in that place. I hate standing around looking at one thing for to long.

If you ever see me running look behind me because something is chasing me that I don't think I can fight off :)
The trouble with running outside is no matter how far you run you have to go back.
I envy those who can make themselves work out. Keep up the good work gals.

I am drinking more water!!
I dont stay away from bread, but I dont eat a lot of it either.
I do things like, say for lunch today, instead of eating lunch food when I got hungry, I ate a bowl of yogurt and had some raisins. I cant say I eat the same, cause I do but I dont. I just dont eat as much. Its been so boring the past few months I ate, now I dont as often. Make sense?
I lost 4lbs so far, so Im not worried. Ive always been able to eat that kind of food, I just watch how often and Im usually active. I havent been active in months.
It feel so good to be able to even do the small stuff Ive been doing!!

Doing great Vick! I cut out pop and am also trying to cut down on my portions. I know I could use some more work, but I don't want to DIET because I want it to be something I can do for the long haul.
Way to go!!! :D Have you tried putting the treadmill up to a high degree, and keeping the speed slow? That's often a good way to change up the routine.
Don't you feel good after you work out, once your heart rate goes down?

Yes, I do want to put the tread mill up more. I tried that, but I guess its to soon. It will come later for sure.
I feel great during and after the work out. I enjoy sweating...LOL.
PT on my shoulder, thats a work out I would love to pass up...LOL

I put on a few (okay, more than a few) over the winter. My doctor is not happy with me. Told me to lose a minimum of ten before my next appointment. The only pass he gave me was it was a crappy winter.
I was walking three miles a day, at least three days a week with some light weights every other day. I slowly let it drop until I just stopped. No more, I am determined to lose it and keep it off.
Good for you Vick, you're an inspiration. I don't have a treadmill, but the horses like to walk with me around the pasture (we make a funny sight I'm sure) so I'm putting the walking shoes back on. :)

I love sweating too! I feel like it's my body saying "THANK YOU!" I think sweating is gross at any other time and thought I would hate it while working out - but Nope! When I'm running and I can start to feel the sweat trickle down my back - I am like, "Yes! Keep going!"
Strange, I know. :)

I dont think Ill run on the treadmill. I quit running when I got out of the Army...LOL
March 10, 2010
Opsy,,,,I didnt know I had my interval at 1.5..LOL
I walked that at 2.9 speed for 10 mins before I realized it. Calorie count was higher, thats what caught my attention.
So, brought it down to 1. for the duration, at 2.9 speed.
Just shy 1.1 miles today and 123 calories
I had such a hard time waking up today. I did my PT to get me going before the treadmill today.
My pt always said to switch it up. He said if you use the same muscles they get use to it and won't burn as many calories, so try weights and stuff.

Every ones different and looses weight differently.
I can work on the treadmill till Im blue in the face and still loose weight, without using weights.
I cant do aerobics and loose weight though...go figure, I sweat as much, but it does nothing for me.
Put me in water aerobics and I can trim up wonderfully.

Your right, guess I was saying your body will adjust to the same work and won't burn as many calories.
lol I just have to sweat to lose weight. get fat during the winter and slim down all through summer. ten pounds is all I want off, stupid love handles

Just wondering how your walking is going for you Vick?
I upped my every other day treadmill workouts to 3 miles. That 4 mile run/walk in July is coming up before I know it!
P.S. Hubby's surgery for his shoulder is tomorrow - so I'll let you know how it goes.
vicklynn
04-16-2010, 03:15 PM
Its not. I know once I get the rooms moved it'll be easier for me to do the things I should be doing, ie treadmill work outs, and other things.
I need to get help for my hubby to do that. My desk has to be torn down to put it back in my old office, so I can put the tread mill in here where there is open space. It got depressing in that room for a tread mill. I didnt need any help in that area.
Im glad your work outs are going well. Keep up the good work!
Well, you wrote this yesterday, so Im assuming hubby has had surgery.
Hope it all went well.

Surgery went alright. He had some other issues that we found out about his tendon... and a HORRIBLE time in recovery. (4 hours) but he is home now and alternating vicodin and ibuprofen and we've only had to talk to the on call dr. once related so some swelling in his arm. he HATES the sling though... and dr said he has to pretty much wear it 24/7 until his 10 post op appt.
vicklynn
04-17-2010, 05:25 AM
I understand about the sling. Mine kept moving around, but it was great when I just let my shoulder relax and get the weight off of it.
What happened in recovery?
Did he have a nerve block when he had surgery?
Did they send home an ice machine with a shoulder cuff?
Did they do open surgery or arthroscopic surgery?

He just didn't do so well with the block. (shot in the neck, not the IV in the neck one) and then the meds they gave him in his regular IV to make him sleepy etc. his blood pressure dropped, they had to give him meds to reverse the effects of the meds he got during surgery, etc.
It was arthroscopic. 3 incisions... we can take his bandages off tomorrow and he can shower, etc.
They sent us home with one ice pack and said 20 min on, 20 min off. He's been doing that and taking his pain meds.
Today he just said it "feels funny" in his shoulder when he moves his arm at all. Dr. called to check on him this a.m. too and said it sounded like it was going alright.

Ya, they stick that thing in your neck to find your nerve and thats where they shoot the block in. Not an IV. It helps with the pain coming out of surgery.
So you are putting band aids over the incision right?
Sure wish they had sent him with a Game Play ice machine. He would be tied to it, but I spent many days just sitting in a chair with that thing. Got really old quick, but I tell ya, it is the bomb.
It does feel funny, it dosnt work...hellllooooo
He just had 3 protals drilled in through is muscles. They need to heal back, the surgery itself(what they were fixing)needs to heal.
It takes time to get movement, if pushed, he WILL reverse the healing. Its NOT a girl thing, its a fact. I see so many people who have had shoulder surgery at Physical Therapy, even men, asking the same questions I did when I first started. Patients is NOT a virtue for me. I had to learn that I cant do things I want to. That in itself is mental enough.
Im sure he was told to turn his hand face up and down, with out moving the shoulder.
I tell ya, if ya go out, even After Doc says he can take the sling off, wear it when you go in a store. People look at you like your normal and ok, but the first time someone bumps him, he will want to have that sling back on so they know he isnt 100%.
Prayers are up for his healing, patience, and your patience too.
It'll take a toll on you if you dont have someone to talk to about it also.
I had my PT guy tell me many many many times, before it sunk in, "Did you just have major surgery recently". I wanted my shoulder back yesterday. He made me see that its ok to be where I am.

Thank you Vicky. As I said in PM - I appreciate your insight. He sounds a lot like you in and it's good to get this perspective because he's not one to talk about his feelings.
That ice machine does sound amazing. Right now we have two icepacks that we just rotate in and out of the freezers for his ice times.

You should have him read this so he understands, it is normal to feel the way he does, and to understand it IS ok to not be 100% for awhile. The ones he loves understands.
