View Full Version : Do you have a "theme song" for your life?

I was just wondering, who else has a "theme song" for their life? It's just kinda crazy to me how strong a song's lyrics can "speak out" to me. I've always been that way. The songs change with life, of course.

For instance, where I'm at is working through a divorce. It's been rough but I know I'm better off. It's just working through a heap of a mess & stuff that comes up that it all gets so overwhelming. I found myself applying something from my horses to life - dust off, cowgirl up, and keep going :cowboy:....then I heard Brooks & Dunn's "Cowgirls Don't Cry" - it gave me goosebumps! It sums up my life pretty good, except for the last verse; I still have Dad, thank God.

1st part:
"Her Daddy gave her first pony, Then told her to ride.
She climbed high in that saddle, Fell I don't know how many times.
Taught her a lesson that she learned, Maybe a little too well

Cowgirls don't cry. Ride, baby, ride.
Lessons in life are going to show you in time.
Soon enough your gonna know why.
It's gonna hurt every now and then,
If you fall get back on again.
Cowgirls don't cry."

It's either that, or for my rock moods (I like a wide variety lol), I can't help but crank Seether's "Rise Above This". Title sums that one up.

SO - who else? Go ahead & post your favorite lyrics from your theme song, & if you want, why it's so fitting.

I love that song!!!

My theme song for me is "turtle blues" by Janis Joplin

But my life song right now is "just another day in paradise" by Phil Vassar

Probably the Eagles Witchy Woman! Songs I can't get out of my head are John Denver's I guess he'd rather be in Colorado and I'd Rather Be a Cowboy they seem to play in my head all the time even in my sleep I'll wake up hearing "Jessie went away last summer"!

Proven, That is Dixies song too. How cool!! Ill have to get her over here, hes not online much latley.

Mine has been for a big part of my life Desperado

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses
You been out ridin fences for so long now
Oh, you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin you
Can hurt you somehow

Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of heats is always your best bet

Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get

Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin no youger
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin you home
And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin
Your prison is walking through this world all alone

Don't your feet get cold in the winter time
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the night time from the day
You're loosin all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin, but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you, before it's too late

And one wonders why I picked wrong men and am now on my 5th marriage.
Im good now though. Gotta trust song...LMBO

My theme song for my life is "Break Away" by Kelly Clarkson. Mainly this part:

Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I'd just stare out my window
Dreaming of what could be
And if I'd end up happy
I would pray

Trying hard to reach out
But when I tried to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me
Wanted to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I'd pray
I could break away

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly.
I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky.
Make a wish, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.
Out of the darkness and into the sun.
But I won't forget all the ones that I love.
I'll take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away

I actually have two theme songs that fit Dakota and I together. I usually don't like country music, but both of these songs are. The one is "One Friend" by Dan Seals.

I always thought you were the best
I guess I always will.
I always felt that we were blessed,
And I feel that way, still.
Sometimes we took the hard road,
But we always saw it through.
If I had only one friend left,
I'd want it to be you.
Sometimes the world was on our side;
Sometimes it wasn't fair.
Sometimes it gave a helping hand;
Sometimes we didn't care.
'Cause when we were together,
It made the dream come true.
If I had only one friend left,
I'd want it to be you.
Someone who understands me,
And knows me inside out.
And helps keep me together,
And believes without a doubt,
That I could move a mountain:
Someone to tell it to.
If I had only one friend left,
I'd want it to be you.

The other one I have for Dakota is "It's Good to be Us"- by Bucky Convington. I know the song is actually about a couple in love, but the point to it is still there.

Well baby, there ain't no maybe about it
I ain't made of money
So I know that you ain't hangin round for that
If it grew on trees
The branches on mine wouldn't have no leaves
On a shoe-string, saving every dime we made
No Cadillac cruising, no boat on a lake
Out in no-man's-land on an old two-lane
Yeah but we like it that way

It's good to be us,
good to be breathing
Day after night after day, this feeling
Feels the way it should
If this is as good as it gets, then good
It's good to be us

Aw, give me this air and give me this land
When I lay down at night girl, give me your hand
I can take any hurt this world has to give
As long as I got you, as long as I live
I'll make your life as sweet as I can
I'll move every mountain to be that man
That gives you space and a place to land
You wake up smiling, knowing that

It's good to be us,
good to be breathing

Day after night after day, this feeling
Feels the way it should
If this is as good as it gets, then good

It's better than best, yeah we got it made
In the shade, in the sun, in love this way - yeah
We got lucky baby, we've been blessed
Couldn't ask for more, wouldn't settle for less
It's good to be us, yeah, it's good to be us

It's good to be us,
good to be breathing
Day after night after day, this feeling
Feels the way it should
If this is as good as it gets, then good

It's better than best, yeah we got it made
In the shade, in the sun, in love this way - yeah
We got lucky baby, we've been blessed
Couldn't ask for more, wouldn't settle for less
It's good to be us, yeah, it's good to be us

Baby, it's good to be us
So good to be us

The last one is my theme song for both of my horses. "Easier to be" by Life House

Chasing fireflies
Elusive dreams
This pre-life crisis
Is killing me
Beautiful tragedy
Who I was
Wasn't me

Yeah, yeah
You make it easier to be
Easier to be me
It's hard to believe
You make it easy

We speak in silence
Words can't break
It feels like we are
Falling awake in a place
In a time of our own

Yeah, yeah
You make it easier to be
Easier to be me
Hard to believe

Fell at the world
Fell from my feet
Gave up on myself
You didn't give up on me
Let myself go
You were still there
Like coming home
Coming up for air

Yeah, yeah
You make it easier to be
Easier to be me
It's hard to believe
You make it easy
Easier to be
To be me

Yay! I'm not the only one! lol I do get weird looks sometimes when a song comes on & I say "Oh! My theme song!"...lol oh well. Music is my life away from my horses & that's just the way I am! lol :)

Palla - glad to hear Just Another Day In Paradise is your song! I think it's my mom's too - she always turns it up.

Vicky - I love Desperado too. It's 1 that pops into my head allot.

Dakota - I've had Break Away as my song too!

Vicklynn I love Desperado too. That's actually my very favorite Eagle's song. My two favorite songs are Desperado and I'd Rather be a Cowboy. I didn't pick Desperado because it said to pick a life theme song so I figured Witchy Woman sort of sums it all up! I also have wanted to live out west since I was 6 so I guess he'd rather be in Colorado fit that part and I always wanted to be a Cowboy so the other song fit that part but Desperado is one of my very favorite Eagle's song. I know others have done it too but the Eagles version is my favorite.

Did you see the Desperado movies they did back in the late 80's early 90's with Alex Macarthur [sp] as Duell McCall?????

Mine's probably 'Early Sunsets Over Monroeville' or 'Skylines and Turnstiles', both by MCR :D
If you want the lyrics you'll have to go and find them yourself ;).

I find it so interesting the music that speaks to people. It's a very personal thing that is weird cause everyone knows the song too. . . Also a great way to learn the inside of someone. I don't really have a theme song right now. My husband says the one that suits me the most is Terri Clarks' I Just Wanna Be Mad for a while. . lol It definately suits my married self but it's not who I am completely. Just my temperment. He gets over being mad in like 2 seconds and it takes me hours!!!! I don't have to hash it out I just want time to let my temper fade.

Last night we went to bed not talkin,
cause wed already said too muh.
I faced the wall, you faced the window.
Bound and determined not to touch.

Weve been married seven years now.
Sometimes it feels like 21.
Im still mad at you this mornin.
Coffees ready if you want some.
Ive been up since five, thinkin bout me and you.
And Ive got to tell you the conclusion Ive come to.

Ill never leave, Ill never stray.
My love for you will never change.
But I aint ready to make up.
Well get around to that.
I think Im right, I think youre wrong.
Ill probly give in before long.
Please dont make me smile.
I just wanna be mad for a while.

Well, now you might as well forget it.
Dont run your fingers through my hair.
Yeah, thats right, Im bein stubborn.
No, I dont wanna go back upstairs.
Im gonna leave for work without a goodbye kiss.
But as Im drivin off, just remember this.

Ill never leave, Ill never stray.
My love for you will never change.
But I aint ready to make up.
Well get around to that.
I think Im right, I think youre wrong.
Ill probly give in before long.
Please dont make me smile.
I just wanna be mad for a while.

Ill never leave, Ill never stray.
My love for you will never change.
But I aint ready to make up.
Well get around to that.
I think Im right, I think youre wrong.
Ill probly give in before long.
Please dont make me smile.
I just wanna be mad for a while.

Another one that suits me a bit is "She's in Love with the Boy" by Trisha Yearwood. It's like story of how my hubby and I met. My parents HATED him. Thought he was using me and was no good. Wasn't good in school and didn't 'deserve me'. Anyways, worked out for us for sure. Been together 13 years yesterday! Married 4.

Her daddy says
He ain't worth a lick
When it comes to brains
He got the short end of the stick
But Katie's young
And, man, she just don't care
She'd follow Tommy anywhere
She's in love with the boy
She's in love with the boy
She's in love with the boy
And even if they have to run away
She's gonna marry that boy someday

There is a song about a fathers love...it is country but I don't know who sang or wrote it. Its a love without ending end.... that makes me cry.

Should've been a cowboy has gotten me through so many bad days at work....those are the 2 important songs.

This is a good topic. I feel I got so many theme songs in my life... too many to say or remember at this moment. Probably the up most top on is

"Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison.
That song is close to my heart, my daddy use to sign it to me all the the time when I was lil!

http://music.yahoo.com/Van-Morrison/Brown-Eyed-Girl/lyrics/712967#lyricstop

wouldn't let me copy & paste... too lazy to figure it all out... Most people know the song! ;)

I don't know if I've found a theme song for my life right now, there have been a couple different seasons in my life where certain songs have really said it all. Right now, alot of my life is my relationship with my BF and I know this song always reminds me of how lucky I am :) It's Martina McBride's "My Baby Loves Me"

Don't need no copy of vogue magazine
Don't need to dress like no
Beauty Queen
High heels or sneakers, he don't
give a damn
My baby loves me just the way that I am
My baby loves me just the way that I am
He never tells me I'm not good enough
Just give me unconditional love
He loves me tender and he loves me mad
He loves me silly and he loves me sad

He thinks I'm pretty, he thinks I'm smart
He likes my nerve and he loves my heart
He's always sayin' he's my biggest fan
My baby loves me just the way that I am
My baby loves me just the way that I am

And when there's dark clouds in my eyes
He just sits back and lets 'em roll on by
I come in like a lion go out like a lamb
My baby loves me just the way I am
My baby loves me just the way I am

He thinks I'm pretty, he thinks I'm smart
He likes my nerve and he loves my heart
He's always sayin' he's my biggest fan
My baby loves me just the way that I am
My baby loves me just the way that I am

He thinks I'm pretty, he thinks I'm smart
He likes my nerve and he loves my heart
Don't see no reason to change my plan
My baby loves me just the way I am
My baby loves me just the way I am

o_o most of these songs I've never heard!
Of course I've heard Kelly Clarkson...
Oh, and Brown Eyed Girl...that is such a good song!! It reminds me of my childhood because the start reminds me of the theme to a soap on Brit TV called Heartbeat...
And of course MCR xD

I've had people say my song is "Nothing Sweet About Me" by Gabriella Cilmi...usually followed by a dead arm :p

I don't think I really have a song for this part of life right now...I usually go for whatever's stuck in my head right now. So atm it could be "The Last Song" by McFly..."If this is the last song I'll ever sing/I'll give it my everything" because I like to feel like that's what I doing in my life now.

I love music. Many different kinds, okay, genres. One that really gives me energy and with a few mental word substitutions I can relate to is "Life is a Highway." I like the Chris Ledoux version best. I also like his "Old Paint." Now I have Ledoux on the brain, I can't think of the titles of so many others, but, I like AC/DC and Led Zeppelin, some hip-hop, Cajun, Baka, blues, Irish, Norwegian, Johnny Horton, Don Williams, I could go on. Tons and tons of songs and artists.

Fun reading what others like.

This is a prettty cool thread. It's neat reading everybodys' songs.:)

I actually have one more theme song for myself. Especially when I get into that kind of mood. With the exception of the third line (I have never dated a teacher and I don't think my parents hate me, at least not all the time:innocent:), it's me.

Never win first place, I don't support the team
I can't take direction, and my socks are never
clean
Teachers dated me, my parents hated me
I was always in a fight 'cause I can't do nothin'
right

Everyday I fight a war against the mirror
I can't take the person staring back at me I'm a hazard to myself

Don't let me get me
I'm my own worst enemy
It's bad when you annoy yourself, so irritating
Don't wanna be my friend no more, I wanna be somebody else

I wanna be somebody else, yeah

LA told me, "You'll be a pop star, all you have to change is everything you are."
Tired of being compared to damn Britney Spears
She's so pretty, that just ain't me

So doctor, doctor, won't you please prescribe me something? A day in the life of someone else 'cause I'm a hazard to myself

Don't let me get me (ooh)
I'm my own worst enemy (noo)
It's bad when you annoy yourself
So irritating (no)
Don't wanna be my friend no more
I wanna be somebody else
Yeah
Don't let me get me (don't let me)
I'm my own worst enemy (oooooh)
Its bad when you annoy yourself
So irritating
Don't wanna be my friend no more
I wanna be somebody else

So doctor, doctor, won't you please prescribe me something?
A day in the life of someone else

Don't let me get me

(oooh)
I'm a hazard to myself (yeah)
Don't let me get me
I'm my own worst enemy
Its bad when you annoy yourself (yourself)
So irritating (so irritating)
Don't wanna be my friend no more (don't, don't)
I wanna be somebody else
Don't let me get me (don't let, don't let, don't let me get me)
I'm my own worst enemy
It's bad when you annoy yourself (yourself, it's so bad)
So irritating (oooh)
Don't wanna be my friend no more (aah)
I wanna be somebody else
Don't let me get me (Don't let me get me)
I'm my own worst enemy
it's bad when you annoy yourself...

I love this thread. I've tried to respond four seperate times now but I keep getting distracted (the last time the computer literally died, though).

I have many theme songs. Learn To Be Still - The Eagles, Smilin' - Tim McGraw, Happy Girl - Martina McBride, Collective Soul's song Better Now is my drive-home/good-day theme song, and Will swears the chorus of Cowgirls Don't Cry was written about me.

Yellowcard - View From Heaven:
I'm just so tired
Won't you sing me to sleep
And fly through my dreams
So I can hitch a ride with you tonight
And get away from this place
Have a new name and face
I just ain't the same without you in my life

Late night drives
All alone in my car
I can't help but start
Singin' lines from all our favorite songs
And melodies in the air
Singin' life just ain't fair
Sometimes I still just can't believe you're gone

And I'm sure the view from heaven
Beats the hell out of mine here
And if we all believe in heaven
Maybe we'll make it through one more year
Down here

I feel your fire
When it's cold in my heart
And things sort of start
Reminding me of my last night with you
I only need one more day
Just one more chance to say
I wish that I had gone up with you too

And I'm sure the view from heaven
Beats the hell out of mine here
And if we all believe in heaven
Maybe we'll make it through one more year
I hope that all is well in heaven
'cause its all shot to hell down here
I hope that I find you in heaven
'cause I'm so lost without you down here

Bryan Adams - Get Off Of My Back (from Spirit)
Matchbox Twenty - Unwell
...
I'm not crazy
I'm just a little impaired
I know right now you don't care
But soon enough
you're going to think of me
And how I used to be.

Talkin' to myself in public
And dodgin' glances on the train.
And I know, I know
they've all been talking about me
I can hear them whisper
And it makes me think
there must be somethin' wrong with me
Out of all the hours thinkin' that
somehow, I've lost my mind.

But I'm not crazy
I'm just a little unwell
I know right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me.
...

And of course, Dope - Sing
...
Some people sing for life some people sing for death
Some people sing to sing the songs that they like best
Some people sing for broke some people sing for fame
Some people sing for hope some people sing for pain

Sing for the man on the corner
Sing for your love of God
Sing for your apathy
No matter, no matter what you believe
Sing just a little bit louder
Sing with all you got
Sing along with me
No matter, not matter what you believe
...

I probably have close to a thousand theme songs (Will can vouch for that) - after I hear a song two or three times I have it memorized, so I really remember all the ones I connect with... music is a rather serious force in my life. :cowboy:

Here's mine, I love this song

Dancing In The dark
Bruce Sprinsteen

I get up in the evening
and I ain't got nothing to say
I come home in the morning
I go to bed feeling the same way
I ain't nothing but tired
Man I'm just tired and bored with myself
Hey there baby, I could use just a little help

You can't start a fire
You can't start a fire without a spark
This gun's for hire
even if we're just dancing in the dark

Message keeps getting clearer
radio's on and I'm moving 'round the place
I check my look in the mirror
I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face
Man I ain't getting nowhere
I'm just living in a dump like this
There's something happening somewhere
baby I just know that there is

You can't start a fire
you can't start a fire without a spark
This gun's for hire
even if we're just dancing in the dark

You sit around getting older
there's a joke here somewhere and it's on me
I'll shake this world off my shoulders
come on baby this laugh's on me

Stay on the streets of this town
and they'll be carving you up alright
They say you gotta stay hungry
hey baby I'm just about starving tonight
I'm dying for some action
I'm sick of sitting 'round here trying to write this book
I need a love reaction
come on now baby gimme just one look

You can't start a fire sitting 'round crying over a broken heart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
You can't start a fire worrying about your little world falling apart
This gun's for hire
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark
Even if we're just dancing in the dark

Well, I've thought about this one a lot and I'll probably add a few more posts. This is a great thread! But if I must pick one song to be "the song of my life", I'm going to go with "Let it Be" by The Beatles.

I feel that "Let it Be" is a song that summarizes the way that our Creator would like us to look at life. Our worries and troubles, although real and sometimes terribly painful, are as fleeting as a rain shower on a summer's day. And when our brief time on this Earth is up, we'll all be together in a place where "...there will be no sorrow, let it be..."

YouTube - let it be

I am the very happy JackieB that enjoys life so much. But I definitely wasn't always this way and I would say that embracing a "Let it Be" type philosophy where "...there will be an answer..." has helped me find a fair amount of peace.

So, that's my song. Maybe I'll post some others that might not be the song, but that are still very important. Fun!

You don't have to have just one song...

I posted 2, others posted more & that's fine! I picked ones that fit me *at the moment* but sometimes I feel like I'm on an emotional rollarcoaster so the song that speaks loudest can change at any moment (like I just fuzzed my speakers with Airbourne's "Runnin' Wild"....."I'm sick of your $#!! in a loving way!") lol.

I actually got back here to post another song "How Bout Them Cowgirls" by George Straight. That's actually my ringtone, & I set it in my sig too :cowboy:

"Boy, she don't need you and she don't need me.
She can do just fine on her own two feet.
But she wants a man who wants her to be herself.
And she'll never change, don't know how to hide,
Her stubborn will or her fighting side.
But you treat her right and she'll love you like no one else.

Yeah, how about them cowgirls
Boys ain't they something
Sure are some proud girls
But you can't beat there lovin'!"

I really like all these replies!
