I know I'm having a bad day and I'm sure this has a lot to do with it but my neighbor...passo people...are running horses right now!!! its 12am!! I'm trying to study and this guy has this poor horse outside running over the bridge they practice on (which sounds like a loud drum)...why is he making a horse work at 12am!?? They are SO rough with the horses and sometimes I wish I could go over there and just open all their stalls and let them out. (as if they'd have anywhere to go...) The fact that it's 12am...I've had a terrible day...and it doesn't look like it will be ending anytime soon is really making my blood boil. :banghead:
vent over.

That does seem obnoxious to have them running over those boards at midnight. Deep breaths.

I used to board at a Paso barn in college. The barn I was at was actually bought by Paso people and what was my haven turned into a hard place to enjoy! It was enough to ensure I never wanted to be a part of that world. . .there may in fact be good paso people out there but I've never met them. (not horse wise at all). That's pretty crazy working a horse at midnight over something noisy. . .

Its taking everything in me to not loose my temper right now. They are still working this horse! My bf is the only thing stopping me.

That does suck. Nothing pisses me off like loud noisy neighbors!
Can some one enlighten me on the whole Paso thing? Is it training for something in particular that they do?

They have a certain gait -forgot the name - that they do on a long board to hear the hoofbeats, they like it fast & regular, consistent. Imagine listening to that all night.

There are three kinds: classic fino, paso corto, paso largo. All extremely smooth, but I don't agree with the bridge training at 12 AM.

A-Noy-Ing!
The only Paso Fino I have met was on the ride across Eastern Washington. The poor horse was crippled up lame and the owner kept riding it. In camp it would lie down and not eat (this is after 20-mile days, all horses eat after working like that). When it got up it was like watching a 35 year old horse struggle to its feet on a cold morning. The owner used Easy Boots and every pastern and coronary band on that horse was rubbed raw with weeping sores. The owner did not even have Bute. I gave her my supply.
Some people need to be shot.

Wow. I think Its time to play GI Jane and Go sniper with a paintball gun. Plug that guy in the head with pink paint.
A lady at my barn has a PasoFino. She is a sweet woman, loves her horse almost more than her daughter lol. She just kinda fell into having her so she doesnt care if she does the classic fino or w/e the other two were (that doesnt mean Fierra doesnt have them that horse can MOVE) But other than that I have not met many other Paso people I like either

lolol what a good idea with the paint ball! ;) I may have to use that next time...although I'd have to do it NOT from my house because I'm directly across from them so they would know it was me. :p But I'm not the only neighbor sooooo... ;)

I hate to stereotype paso people.... but I wish I saw different traits in them than I've seen here...both of my neighbors are paso people. I just wish it didn't always look SO evident that these horses were so afraid of their handlers.

Thanks Natisha. Yes, very annoying to listen to that all night long! Our noisy neighbor has a loud LOUD mudtruck that he just sits in his driveway and revs the engine for long periods of time, early morning, late night. It really pisses me off. I called the cops once. Didn't help matters.

I think I'd just walk over and ask them not to do it at night. Just say, "Hey, I'm really having trouble sleeping. Would you mind not doing that during the night?"
I agree, though, sounds like he's being irresponsible with his horse(s).

Certain types of people are attracted to certain breeds of horses. With the gaited horses, I have seen a polarity: on one side are easygoing folk who just like a smooth trail ride, and on the other are some real jerks who treat the horses like a souped up performance hot rod. I've seen a very abusive subtype of people owning Tennessee Walkers, seen these horses being rode hard with their faces sored up and bleeding from tight curb chains, hard bits, and hard hands. Of course it is always the horse's fault for being too hot and hardheaded to yield to the bit or gait the way the owner desires it to.
Anyhow, next time the neighbors make a racket at 1200 am then you just need to get up at 0600 and do some target practice in your yard with, say, a 30.6 to make a good racket right when they are ready for a good morning's sleep;)

Wow that's annoying. I live across the street (like right across the street) from a big hay field and during hay season they'll start cutting the hay at 3 am. There's a bunch of those hay machine things going and all the workers park their cars right by our house so we can hear them on their breaks. It's so loud. It's just impossible to get a solid sleep during those couple weeks.

Have a little hope, I know a family that are some of my closest friends and they breed and train paso finos. The nicest people you could ever want to meet. It is really to bad that your neighbors are so rotten, because there really are good paso lovers out there who love and respect their horses, and don't annoy their neighbors.
