So the first warm day I noticed a few wasp flying around the barn/house. When we moved here there was a HUGE wasp nest. Probably about the size of a large dinner dish. (not exaggerating). Today has been a pretty hot day and wasp are everywhere . They are landing on Prado and stinging him as he's got at least 3-5 welts. I was hand grazing him and I'm trying not to scream or run around but they are flying at me/ past me. I had to put him up I was afraid I was going to spook him. :( What do I do?? I can't find a nest..I have wasp spray but don't want to spray him or his food or water...I'm a sissy when it comes to bees I'm petrified of getting stung.
I looked online and saw hanging a brown paper bag full of air because they think it's a hornets nest or the zip lock baggy with a penny in it. I just want something that works. Any suggestions?

I dont do wasps.
I went to walmart and bought my start up cans for the yr, they came in a 2 pack also, wohoo...look for that.
Thing about the can is, you HAVE to get the stuff the says it shoots 20 ft or better...this shoots a 27 jet spray...I like.
When you do it, IF you do it, make sure that you are awaiting them to be calm, inside their home, preferable at night. I carry two cans incase one runs out. They will, they dont last long due to the jet stream.
Im a bee killer....LOL
The dogs and I got attacked by small stinging bees once. That was enough for me. If you crawl or fly this time of yr, you should probably NOT be on my property....LMBO
I would spray your horse with your fly spray to ward them off.
My dad is an licensed exterminator. If I have to think back to listening to his conversations, I do remember him recommending Konk to people. Konk is great because it can be safely used around the barn, and it's a natural product.

ETA: Sorry! You can find it at any farm supply store or farm co-op. :) It's readily available in the US and Canada. He says 0.9 Pyrethrin works best, but 0.5 will probably work just as well.

That sounds terrible! I hate wasps, too.
Any idea what kind of wasps they are? Yellow jackets nest in the ground so you won't necessarily see a paper nest. If you're careful, you can find them flying in and out of their hole and then spray it at night. You may have to dig it up a bit and spray some more, too. I'm pretty sure others will nest in wood, so check your eaves for holes and wasps flying in and out of them.
I hope you find the nest and get rid of them!

Yikes.... me hates bees.
There are traps that attract them and hold them, aren't there? But I'd keep looking for a source... it's there somewhere.

Thanks for all the input!
They def aren't yellow jackets. They keep flying around this one area by an empty stall but we can't find a nest! :( they sit up in the rafters of the barn in a few dif places. I wonder if they are looking for material to build a nest?
The wasp are HUGE dark with reddish wings. (Aren't mud dobers tho) I did see one even bigger bright red wasp flying around the barn then when I went to my shavings bin it was flying around the shaving.

I can't control myself when I see them I try so hard not to freak out and run and if I don't I get all panicked and think anything that catches my eye (even dust) is a wasp. Its really scary lololol
First I assure you I'm sorry about your problem, but picturing you bug eyed and trying not to scream, or run around, 'cause you'd scare the horse cracked me up.
Good luck sleuthing out the bees!
Thanks for the info, Fork. I'm passing it on to friends who had a problem last year, and will probably have it again.

There's usually 0.1% in products like Bronco compared to the 0.5% or 0.9% in Konk. I think that anything under 0.5% is usually nearly ineffective.
