Hello Everyone,

This is our official election night thread. Well, unless someone started a different one. Let's gather and enjoy each other's company tonight.

A couple of ground rules.

Be civil as always
Be sensitive to the feelings of others. If the election is going your way, great. It's fine to express your happiness. But please be gracious toward others who might be unhappy with the results. We've all been there before and know what it feels like. If the election isn't going your way, please recall how delighted you've been in the past when your candidates have won and appreciate why others are so happy.
Here we go!

I'm currently reading up on all of our props so I can just cast my yes or no when I get to the polls...man they are making me THINK! As far as the presidential candidate, my minds made up and I'm excited to see who gets it! I have a feeling we won't be knowing for a little while longer.

 The election's personally nerve-wracking for me. But of course I realize that I'm going to have to live with whatever everyone else decides for the next 4 years.

Just changed the channel to listen. Can't wait until this is all over and the results are finally in. Just hoping that Prop 2 (michigan one) does not pass.

Hey, JackieB.

Explain something for me I'm never quite clear on, please.

Reports seem to be that Obama got more votes in S.C. than McCain did, but McCain got the electorals. I'm given to understand those are different right?

It is early like Vick said, and if it doesn't go your way in the end, try not to be too upset. There are checks and balances in the system and the whole thing comes back up in four short years anyway.

Well, we'll see, but history would tend to indicate a pendulum swing is to be expected. I wish the timing were better, but perhaps the timing will never be good.

The good news is, Republicans are really much happier being the party in opposition. We know how to play defense well, probably better than the democrats do :)

Ya know, the thing that gets me is, I just watched some southern states, yes black, and they voted by race, talked about history, Martin Luter King, water hoses, dogs, ect. Does anyone see what could happen with that?
I see it, been seeing it, and now the people are showing it. They will use their history as a negative, there will be problems.

Vick, I see racism all over the place here. Looking even at FNC, they want to show all the stats on white evangelicals white this and white that. What about just plain ole evangelicals and plain ole this and that sort of people. In Alabama they are talking about how the African American vote is going to change some things in that state. Are people completely brain dead.? Are we really voting race or party so strictly that we pretend we don't see what's really going on? It's not this group or that group voting as far as I can see. It's the American people voting!! We will get what we ask for no matter who wins. Time and history will be the judge.

I share some of your concern Vick.

That is definitely NOT true...you talked to an egg farmer....who would be required to spend more money to redo his confinements...of course he's not going to like it. This prop is not requiring ANYONE to go the range route, they are simply required to make their cages bigger. They will not go out of business (the one's that do probably should not be in the business anyway) Most likely what will happen is the cost of eggs/veal/pork will go up...fine by me. We already have a pretty fair market for free range eggs as it is in California so I don't see it doing too much to the egg industry.

Cost go up??? How is that a good thing? Aren't families struggling enough already? I've never eaten veal and never will, but eggs are a staple. The cost of everything is high enough already and if the price on anything goes up it's a bad idea in my opinion. Sure chickens should be kept in good conditions, but the economy is bad enough already and this country needs to prioritize. We can't have everything at once.

I vote no on all amendments to the Ohio Constitution on principle because I believe that the system is being abused, and we're voting on stuff that has no place in a constitution. I mean come on--smoking, casinos in a CONSTITUTION--it's just ridiculous. According to my sister, Colorado's actually voting on making ballot initiatives fairer by requiring support throughout the state for them to be on the ballot.

SM, I understand what you're saying, but I think there is just as much of a likelihood of racist southern whites causing trouble. I hope nothing will happen ( and I don't think it will ). I see where you're coming from, but don't just assume the blacks are the only ones who could get volatile.

Missdixie, I don't consider myself racist even though I was raised in the middle of it; and I'm not saying you were calling me that. I think ANY group is capable of volatility if the circumstances are right. I have friends who are well educated, dumb as dirt (like myself), some have common sense, and some can't find their way home. They are from many nationalities but that never came into play. My favorite people are horse people and they come in all colors. Heck I've even seen some of us horse people get volatile over some things. Everyone is capable of being caught up in it. Maybe everyone in the world should deal with problems on a "forum"; at least we wouldn't be cracking each other's heads. LOL.

Okay, let's get real here. Obama's got 207 electoral votes. California is 55, Washington is 11. They are a given. REGARDLESS of any other states, including Florida, he's got 270.

I missed this because I was running calls.... people who don't even need the darn ambulance.

Anyway... guys I'm worried.... VERY worried. I have never felt this stressed or even anxiety over the issue of the president. I just the hope that the change that people wanted is the change that they get and not something totally different.

Well said and my concerns exactly. It's not that I didn't agree with some of the stuff being said, it's just that the track record didn't match the talk. But come to think of it, isn't that the way it is with most all politicians.

Your right - I'm barely keeping up with this thread. I'm trying to follow this thread and work on my book and watch the election. Multitasking - a wonderful thing. :D

As long as it doesn't drive me crazy first. I'm behing by a little over 1000 words in my book right now for NaNoWriMo. BLAHHH!

Yup, it is. Thats all I have to say about his fluff. You know a few of my feelings, there are many many many more concerns.

I agree. I feel the same. Only I wasn't aware enough that I should care after Clinton was president.

I guess I'll be moving to Australia. Mom's home I gotta get off soon. :( I guess whatever happens, happens.

Yes it is... it always seems to come down (IMO) which one is the lesser of two evils. But this time around.... (although I still felt that way) I was more worried about one then the other... I usually don't dare talk politics because I would quickly admit I'm so "dumb" on the politic issues!

Seriously though guys, I really hope ( and I think he will ) if Obama wins he will be able to work in a bipartisan way to fix things for us, no hard feelings against the republicans. I know how you must feel. I have been sick over this election all day, hopefully Obama can earn your trust and you won't have to feel sick for the next 4 years.:( And in the meantime, if he does win, you can just rub any little mistake in our faces ( and I'm sure you will ;) )

Me too FFE, on politics. Sucks that the better of the two evils may loose. That is scary.

Yeah that's likely to happen. I don't trust politicians in general anyway. Just thinking about him leading our country makes me what to move to Australia. But that's just me.

Look, if Obama wins, and the feelings we are worried about happen, we wont need to rub them in your face, you'll be kicking your own ass.

And from the Democrats in Washington just now, "and for those of you who voted for us, we're going to do our best........" I guess that's change. That sounds like we're going to get rid of the bi-partisanship and division. That's!!! reaching across the isle alright.

They wouldn't do that. Especially not Tiz or RocknK. :):):)

OK, OK. I guess you can go wild if you wish, missdixie. Nobody is talking on television as if this is still any kind of a presidential race anymore. I've just always thought it bad luck to count on anything that hasn't happened yet.

But you go ahead and jump for joy. Me, I'm still going to wait until they call it, which should only be about 20 minutes from now.

Although I have always been a strong (thought) of the republican I have always been an open minded person and I was willing to give Hilliary a try. I thought maybe she could do some change. Both good & bad. However he just worries me... Big time. Do I think that McCain could make America into the changes we need... NOPE it's going to take a lot to fix the economy either way... I just fear Obama's "true" intentions. Soooo many thoughts & ethics flow through my mind...

Missdixie: I hope he proves me wrong. I really do. Really.... I mean that...

Don't assume that those comments represented the Democratic party in general. And also, it could have been more of a "If you crossed party lines to vote for us, we promise to..."
