What do you do?

I don't think anyone has posted anything like this yet. I know we all have an idea of what each other days with their horses and all, but I'd just be curious to see the break down. Also I'm doing a school project with a lot of different polls so I'll be using this one as one of them.

So, do you ride western/english? And specifically what do you do in your discipline? I know a lot of people ride both, or do more than one thing, but try to pick what you do most frequently or focus on the most.

I ride English with Tobey. We mostly do hunter/jumpers but I'm looking into eventing and am going to join the eventing team we have here for next season. I'm not sure if I'll ever show next season considering I've never done a day of dressage or done any eventing before, but its the next big thing I'm aiming at.

Also looking to get some more formal western experiance soon. I'm going to try some reining and cutting this weekend when I go to the barn too. Obviously not on Tobey.

I ride english and western with Chrissy.
Right now, I'm only riding western until she gets better at it. Ocasionaly (sp?) I will school her english just to keep it up, but we're working towards being able to show western pleasure with AQHA next summer, so thats mainly what we'll be working on this winter.

I put down Western: Pleasure because that's really my main thing but I also love trail riding, barrels, reining, hunt seat, and jumping.

I started my riding life by taking english lessons for 7 years and then switched to western for 2 years and showed in western horsemanship, now I'm taking lessons for barrels and overall training of Dixie. I still really want to get back into english.

Western - mostly trail riding or gymkhana stuff. Used to show at 4-H level & did fairly well. Now that it's chillier...I'll be mostly bareback! I don't know what I favor....I like to mix it up!

I ride western- cowgirl all the way although I do find it very amusing and fun to jump my game horse!:p I think she likes it. xD
I trail ride my gelding--usually bareback-- and do arena work with my mare (I do take her trail riding sometimes to keep her from getting bored). I'm retraining her for gaming: barrels, poles, keyhole, etc.

Dressage Princess here lol, jk! I have rode everything though, I used to show western then started english. I did 6 yrs of training and competing in Hunter/Jumpers. Then switched to mainly Dressage and I love it. I do still jump though. I also do Endurance riding. I have done gaming as well

Well, so many of the options fit us, but I guess Eventing describes us best.
We do dressage
Cross country (still small stuff, though!)
Indoor (arena) jumping as soon as the BO's jumps come back to her. lol. the last of the old ones died in the last storm. heheh.

But we also do trails.
I've been told Baloo should do WP too.

If I win the lotto I want to move to Unionville, PA and join a hunt so I can start foxhunting.

Well I put down western pleasure since that was the first goal Trouble and I set out to do. She is doing amazing, and the lope just needs a little improvement and we are good to go. So thats what I voted.

But now I am also riding her english and plan on entering her in english pleasure classes as well as doing some low level dressage and jumping. She is also my trail horse, and is becoming more dissensized to things which is nice!

Mostly just follow or look for cows now. Use either a stock saddle or my forward seat one. Ride colts for other people or rehab injured horses. My own good mare is living the good life at one of my kid's ranches. They can use her more than I need her.

Started with hunters. Loved the old "handy hunter" classes, and did some catch riding at shows. Played some polo, rode bareback broncs in women's rodeos. Worked on STB and TB tracks through high school. Only roped to doctor cattle.

I put other, because it depends on the day with Gypsy. Because of her age and arthritis, we don't show anymore, but we ride bareback both Western and English, and dabble a bit in Dressage- I do have a saddle for that, he,he! We mostly trail ride- straight lines with shallow turns are best for her.

I would like to do jumpers or dressage, but there are no trainers in my area. So I stick to English Pleasure, but still jump. =P

Eventing all the way! I just started but have been interested in it since I was like 7 (6yrs ago). It;s so much fun! I Love the fact the dressage and jumping are combined. I definitely think that dressage has given more control out of XC and stadium.

I know a lot of people do so much, but since it is only one pick and I wanted more of a break down than English/Western I had to put the one you do most frequently.

I'm really suprised that we have so many dedicated trail riders, or at least folks who spend most of their time trail riding. I always thought it was like a lot of western gamers and english pleasure riders, with a few hunter/jumpers and eventers.

I need to be able to pick more than one!:cry: I trail ride one horse and working on reining stuff, but jump and do dressage on my other horse!

But i put down trail riding because that is what i do primarily.

Hey Caitlin,

You might try googling Pennsylvania dressage association. I'm not sure exactly where you are at but it might be a good reference point for you to find a trainer or get involved in the sport.

Dutchess and I ride english for the most part although she does neck rein and I've ordered a western style endurance saddle for her (2 hour trail rides in my dressage saddle are not that comfortable) We do lower level dressage and trail riding at the moment. Although she is experiencing some hind end soreness issues that we are working through so no riding now.

o.0 well seeing as how I take lessons, and yet compete, although rarely, and also love a good hack...I put English eventers :p seeing as that's what I'm being taught for.

But so many could fit me :D

I do English Hunter/Jumper but not with my own horse. Hopefully soon I will though. :)

With my own horse I do Western Pleasure but am slowly changing to english pleasure then hopefully english hunter/jumper. :D
