Did you mislabel the video? I didn't see any training.
Why is that baby lame? Where is the Mom? They should both be separated so the bigger ones don't make her move around when she's hurting.

Caddo and QT are real cute. How did she hurt her leg? It looks like it's hurting her pretty bad judging by the way she's favoring it. Hope she gets better soon. Is her leg swelled up? Could it be an abscess or what she kicked or ?? How long has she been sore on it? Poor baby.:(

Maggie sure is shedding out, quite the wooly girl! Grooming her will definitely take a while!

I don't want to be mean, but seeing the rope halters on them in the pasture really got me kind of concerned. Do you leave them on the horses all the time? Maybe you could get breakaway turnout halters. That would be much safer. I don't think they cost too much, and if you look around you might be able to find them used pretty cheap on ebay or the forum.

No I was just backing them up with my hand. Yes mom and baby are in with Taylor and Cupid right now. Mom is around just not in the video really. She was grazing. She is the gray next to the fence. QT plays with Caddo most of the time. She must of gotten hurt rough housing with Caddo.

Maggie and Dee are the only ones running with halters. They are harder to catch. Dee I could take hers off but definitely not Maggies. NO there is not any swelling. She will be better in a few days just sore. Her and Caddo were playing. I don't think it is bothering her to much because once I stopped video taping her Caddo decided to run the pasture for a lap. They do this a lot that is why I put PT and QT in the other field right after I took these videos.

I just watched your video again & I think you should not wait on having that baby checked out. If the problem is in the knee you could end up with big trouble or a messed up leg for life. A baby that young should not be turned out with a yearling. It's just no match at playtime.
Maggie is a sad looking creature. What's her story?

Nothing just haven't groomed her yet. I called my vet and she said not to worry right now. Give it a day or two. Its not her knee I am almost sure that it is her shoulder. She has no heat in the leg. Just got carried away a little bit. She just hasn't shedded out yet. She will. I groomed her a little today. She needs to roll but I have never seen her roll.

I'm glad you called your vet but of course you'd worry.

Caddo, glad you got them all to back up for you. Really you should work only with one horse at a time. It is not just backing up you teaching her, she needs to learn that when you are around she needs to pay attention to you and nothing else.
Also, she obviously knows what you want now. Put a lead rope on her, hold the lead rope, not her nose and try to get her make few more steps at a time. It's OK to be more persistent.

Hey jlaska, welcome to the forum! We have a welcome thread here if you'd like to tell us a little about yourself. ;)

Whoa! Maggie needs the clippers! lol

How is QT today?

I tell ya, those babies get into everything. Norma Jean used to lay IN the round bale and being a dun.. no shocker mom accidently stepped on her. She gimped around a while and was ok in a few days. It happens. It's like toddlers bumping their heads on stuff. Can't very well throw out every table in the house lol.

Poor QT hope her leg feels better soon.

Maggie sure is a woolie little thing. One of my favorite tools to help my horses shed is a metal shedding blade. A couple of mine are still pretty woolie to.

Looks like they are getting the backing idea. My colt won't back up that way. He just throws his head but he backs great if I touch his shoulder in the front and say back. Or if I pull back on the lead rope like Petra stated. Now I know in my Clinton Anderson DVD's for foals, weanling and yearlings he starts out backing his like you are doing.

Your baby will be fine. You did the right thing for her.

Norma got stepped on and it WAS her knee (which yours isn't) and the vet just kept an eye for a bit. No good when a dun horse (color reference) camo's themselves in hay.. :innocent:

QT is gorgeous and so is the paint baby (name has lost me lol). For a new breeder you are doing a wonderful job. Everyone runs into things in all types of situations. It's life.

You're doing a good job. With time, you'll have everything set up how you want it. Don't we all want that right away?

That would be easier. I wish that I had a magic wand.

Don't we all...

Just keep asking and learning. A forum is here for people to learn and ask.

so far, your studs offspring this year are fabulous.

Yes, your fencing needs a bit of work. But it takes time. Any of us know that.

You don't need a magic wand.. just time and support.
