Yep it's true. We all respect each other here, we don't tell our forum owner if you don't like it too bad. This is a forum not a playground we do have alot of fun but when someone is disrespectful especially when they are 14 they are ignored so this is my last post to you. Sorry but true.

Ah nonsense! - you're young, and have a lot more potential for change and improvement than I do. I'm sure there's something you can do!
And seriously... The chat speak thing isn't cool... it's just hard for us to read and makes you look uneducated. You don't want that. A little here and there in casual conversation... OK. If you post lot of threads that are nothing but chat speak and nonsense, people aren't going to take you very seriously.
You're welcome, but you're also around a wide range of people here, not just other kids. Look around, see what kinds of posts are typical here. We like new people and we like fun, but we're not a teen chat forum, necessarily. There's lots of those already.

WB- I was going to PM you this, but decided to post for all to see.
I will be the first to admit I am in here sporadically, am opinionated and do stir the pot.
I work with Jr. high students 5 days a week. I DO NOT want to deal with text speak and immature babble here. EVERY OTHER person here under 18 has chosen to be mature (sometimes more so than the adults, including myself), respectful and courteous.
I wish the same from this new member.
I will go try to place nice in the sandbox now.

I'm going to put my two cents in.
I hate text speak. Its hard to read and it makes the person typing look like they don't know what they're talking about. I used to type like that, but I learned that it was much easier to type correctly and follow the rules than put up a fight and get upset about it. You seem like a smart girl, its really not that hard to do. Its just one of the rules, and one of those things we just have to suck it up and deal with. It won't kill you to type correctly. It does seem like a tiny little thing to get worked up about, yes, but its a rule, and the rules are there to be followed.
Trust me, you will get a lot more respect anywhere you go if you tidy up your writing.

I'm going to add my two cents here too. Yes, chat speak is annoying. But let's think about it. She's a fourteen year old girl. We all just want to be accepted at that age. Yes, she's being rude about it and a better attitude would be a lot more helpful in this situation, but a lot of you aren't being the nicest either. We are supposed to be a friendly forum family. Let's show a little respect. Turn the other cheek.

If she continues to write in chatspeak, she's breaking a rule, and will thusly be ignored. I try to treat everyone fairly and give them a chance, but throwing a little bitch-fit (pardon the language) about something so small is really not the best way to demonstrate maturity, nor a good way to gain the respect of anyone else.
Go right ahead and continue with how you're writing, but I'm sorry, I won't be able to say that I respect you or will pay much attention to you.

This is lightning's mother. It's really a good thing your are all covering your asses (oops, pardon the language-not any worse than "bitch-fit" mind you), concealing your mature identities because you have so much damn power. If you are the epitomy of any standards set by true horse people, I cringe to be associated with you. One click...where's it at? Seems to me that you have nothing better to do but embarrass yourselves with the seedless chatter and anyone that does not ignore you from here on out can be no more credible than yourselves. Be careful how you treat others...you are not and will not be any better than anyone else ever. Power will destroy you if it is not used properly. The way that you are carrying on, I will apologize, because it seems that if your ages are showing true, you have not even reached your first decade. If you do understand this, perhaps accepting some one-liners will serve you better because after the way you've treated my daughter, you just wasted your time reading a book. Cyber bullying is a real crime and you never know who has the real power...we will end this with just one click...good-bye.

No I don't think anyone was joking, and the power thing is not a joke for sure. We are all here because of the kindness of the WBs and they should be respected for what they have done for all of us. We had no home until they stepped in. I know I wasn't joking.
This is a place that has rules like most places have rules, if you don't want to follow them then don't join. We do have fun but if the rules are not followed then WB and her man have every right to ban someone. This girl would have been very welcome here like everyone else is if she behaved herself, she didn't, she's gone I guess. This isn't kindergarten. We're all here to have a nice time, chat about horses or what ever but disrespect is not and should not be tolerated. I was taught that you don't talk back to adults, when they tell you something you either let it go in one ear and out the other or you listened [They hoped you listened!] but you never said anything disrespectful. That's the trouble with the world now. If I did that at her age my parents would have smashed my computer against the wall. Rather than tell her daughter to wise up her mother [if it was really her mother] defended her and accused everyone here of being of so mean. It is a different world.
WB if you banned her that is great, I would have actually liked to be the one to press the button. Maybe I'm not Ms Mature but this is why I don't have kids. I can not stand disrespect. Most of the teenagers on here are more mature than I am and I forget they are teenagers. This one was over the top, I just planned on skipping over anything she wrote but if she's gone I don't think she will be missed. Vicky I saw it the first post too and never even finished reading.

You're a nice person, WB.:) And very patient. It would be nice if this whole thing could be resolved peacefully with everyone coming to an understanding, but I'm not holding my breath.
For what it's worth, I too remember being 14. It wasn't that long ago for me. I'm not sure if I joined the forum (which back then would have been horse.com, but most of the same people were there anyway) that year or not until I was 15. But either way, I honestly think a 14 year old should be mature enough to be polite and follow the rules. Most parents teach their children that at a far younger age than 14, at least I know mine did.
A lot of the forum teenagers who are 16, 17, 18+ now started out on this site (or horse.com) when they were lightensmybabe's age or even younger. I think they all conducted themselves in a mature manner and made intelligent, literate posts even as younger teenagers. Because of that, they (or we, if I can include myself) are overall well liked and respected members, I think.
I don't think it's too much to ask for everyone to behave like that, adults and teenagers alike.
Just my two cents.:)

My sister went & saw JS live, he hit on her (via one of his people) & wanted to take her on his boat on Lake Michigan for some TV.
So... did she go? Or did she send her people to tell his people 'no thanks' ?

I love both my grandmas. I don't get a long overly well with the one. She thinks we do... but she doesn't know the real me and I spend a lot of time swallowing back comebacks when she says something hurtful to me or one of my family members (which is often). I mostly just grit my teeth and smile pretty, and stay quiet. And keep the topics of conversation light. She knows very little about my real life.
I do love her, and I guess we were pretty close when I was younger. But things aren't quite like they used to be. And she hates that I have horses.:(

You wanna hear something sad.
My mom died when I was 9 1/2 months preggo. I carried my son for 10 1/2 months.
He was born the same zodiac sign as her, and 30 days exactly after she died, and carried the birth mark that my mom and I carry.
He knew how sad I was that she did not get to meet any of her grandkids, so what does he do(so he says)goes out and has kids so I can see my grandkids.
I live in MO.......how sad is that.
That was not a pitty party, just a story....carry on.

Read Dakota's Post, she pretty much summed it all up about age [and yes Dakota you are very well liked and respected by everyone, you are one that acts mature beyond your years, way more mature than me I can say that! Your parents have to be very very proud of you] if you're going to play follow the rules or don't play. If she wants to play by the rules WB is giving her a chance. She can still be your friend and doesn't have to be on here with her attitude, well she can be here but she'll be talking to you or herself because others have had it with her.

i love my grandma (mom's mom) she is great, no matter what she is there for us. and she is great when she drinks, lol. she does not drink much but she is a VERY happy drunk, lol. hubby loves her just as much and the first time they met she took him in as her own, no questions asked. but my other grandma( dad's mom) when i was little she was great but now i never hear from her. i have tried to e-mail her but never get a reply or i get a one line reply. hubby's grandmas are both different, they get mad when we spend more time with one than the other or if he calls one he has to call the other or else there is he!! to pay. and neither of them will help us with anything. at one point in time we where really bad off and we called one of them to ask for a little help(she has a but load of oil wells in Texas, lots and lots of land and money) and all we get is well i just helped you cousin (how did not need it but is a lazy bum) so sorry.

Wow... Just read this entire thread and just Wow. Probably a good thing that she (or her 'mom') decided to leave. I know she is MG's friend and is probably a good kid but I don't think she is mature enough just yet to be apart of the forum. I'm sorry for that, I'm sure she could have learned a lot here but we really don't need the teenage drama (I for one get enough at home!!!). That being said...
Both my grandmas have passed. My mom's mom and I were close and her death was a shock, none of us saw it coming. One moment she was fine and the next we found her in her apt dead in her chair. Really miss her...
My dad's mom I was never close to. When I was born instead of a congrats it was 'We hope you don't expect us to be built in babysitters!' How messed up is that?

I'm hoping to find one in the next few months so that i can show dusty and deuce at the next show in town. that will be in July so lets pray for a trailer to fall my way. and hubby to go back to work so i can get a nice 3 horse trailer. once he is logging price will not be a big thing, but then finding time for him to do any trailering for rides will be, but thats his bad, lol.

 Yes WB, you saw me! (There isn't a waving smiley that I can find... so clapping will have to do.)
I posted in the "quiet lately" thread with a bit of an update, but since I imagine this will be getting more traffic...
ALOK has moved out of her parents house and in with her cousin and 3 other boys, who do not have internet. So that's why she's disappeared. I think she'd been lurking more than active anyway while Papa was in the hospital and she was struggling with school-related nonsense. I'll let her fill you guys in on the details later, as she sees fit.
As for me, I'm about to graduate from college! (I also have food poisoning right now... combined with exams... fantastic ) I've been busy with that. I said in the other thread that we should be shortly (13 days now) moving to MN -- where we'll have internet -- and hopefully hang out with Farmers_wife and shewasmyshadow. So we'll have pictures and updates throughout the summer! Then we move back to GA and near the horses, and since I won't be in school, and ALOK commute may be a lot shorter... I'm sure I'll be more active as I play with the baby (Daisy), and I imagine ALOK will too.
We're still around! I promise!
As for the grandmother question -- I like one of my grandmothers and not the other. One is racist, bigoted, and... well, crazy. She still asks for white delivery people. Because... white people don't commit crimes. And DON'T get her started about the Cadillac conspiracy. My other grandmother I like a lot, but I don't like my grandfather. She's the one who's offered to buy me my first horse. If not for my grandfather I think I'd be a lot closer to her, but she's probably the relative I am second closest with.

Cyber bullying is a real crime and you never know who has the real power...we will end this with just one click...good-bye.Well if that was written by her real mother it's easy to understand the poor attitude of the daughter. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Just read this WHOLE thing and wooooah.
19 pages. I'm proud of myself haha. I always miss the fun threads :/ I know it didn't start off fun but everyone was having fun towards the end :) .. bar one person..
I just wanna say I've been using forums since I was like 11, or 12? I am now 17!! I started off with Neopets until I was about 14? Stopped forums etc for a while altogether and joined here. And even though I was so young on NP, I always tried to type to the best of my ability. I hate reading stuff like, "hey hw r u??11?1!!/? chillin wit ma frendsss.."
You all have made really valid points and for both her mother to come on here and give off, and her cousin is ridiculous. You simply told the girl to type properly, because if she doesn't she could face being ignored, and no-one wants that =( She took a hissy fit, her cousin took a hissy fit, her mother took a hissy fit.
Cyber bullying nearly made me fall off my chair laughing. I've been horribly cyber bullied and lightning's mum has NO idea when it comes to cyber bullying. She really doesn't, especially if you know what I've been through.
You all were having good natured FUN with the power thing, "We don't question her powers" made me real life LOL at the computer screen xD I shall remember that for a good while.
RANT OVER. WOOOCHA.
Fjords, you were REALLY mature throughout this. You're 16 right? :) Lizzy you were also really mature ^-^ And back to normality the forum goes ;)
Anyone at ANY age can communicate well with anyone on this forum. I haven't met anyone I don't like, I really look up to a lot of the older ones on the forum, also younger ones like Lizzy and Caitlin aswell.. You just have to learn to communicate appropriately with people. Everyone here is open to being your friend, but they aren't going to treat you with respect if you don't treat them with any or don't follow any guidelines.

In all of this I forgot to say I loved both of my grandmothers. They were both loving and funnier than about anything you'd see on TV. I have one picture of them that pretty much sums it all up but I don't know how to put photos on and can't get into my photobucket account. They are on Facebook though for any of you who are my friends on there. They're both wearing hats along with my mother and her fancy hat. It's hysterical. My mother gets mad when I laugh but it's funny! I was lucky and unlucky, we didn't live by them, we lived 3 hrs away but we visited alot, if they weren't at our house we were at theirs on weekends but it wasn't like I could go next door to visit when we were in NY they were in PA. They lived just down the road from each other so there was never "Who's house will we visit?" We split time between both houses and holidays were fun. My father was one of 9 kids, my mother on of 5 so there were always lots and lots of people around and alot of fun. They were all friends so that was nice too.
Problem is I got both of their genes and that's why I'm a nervous wreck all the time. When my father's mother died at only 62 someone asked him if she had any hobbies. He said "Worrying" and unfortunately she passed that gene on to her kids and grandkids, especially the ones who are older and remember her the best. I was 14 when she died so some of the younger cousins don't remember her or never knew her. The other grandmother died at 91 and was afraid of everything. When a storm would come she'd run around the house unplugging everything yelling "The Lord bless us and save us" then she'd dive under the dining room table! It didn't give a scared little kid alot of confidence seeing that! We were there during an eclipse once and she was convinced the world would end then. Then they all wonder why they have whack jobs for grandkids!
So that tells you about my grandmothers in about as short as I can say it! I miss them alot and now I'm starting to talk like my mother's mother, scary stuff at times! I even got a silver Christmas tree since she loved hers so much. Wish I took hers when she wanted to give it to me.

Thanks Vicky, I was talking a mile a minute hoping that it would calm you if you had to listen to my crazy ramblings!!! I was so worried about you because I know I would have been scared. Too bad Grandma wasn't still alive I could have sent her to give you confidence!!!! Wouldn't you love an old lady diving under your table while yelling The Lord Bless us and Save us over and over! She honestly did that! She was so paranoid and had me like that too, then people wonder why I'm nuts. Their house had a big front yard but 3 sides of it were very close to the road like not even a sidewalk between them and the road, the house must have been there first then they crammed the narrow road between the houses. Well she was always thinking someone was looking in the windows. I used to sleep in the bedroom closest to the road and 9 times out of 10 when we got there I'd hear her telling my mother that she saw someone looking in that window at night. OH DID I SLEEP GOOD THOSE NIGHTS....I was awake all night! When she got older she moved to a small apartment and it was the same thing, always thought she saw someone looking in the windows. She had a plastic baseball bat near her bed, that was too funny. I could write a book about my family every bit if it nuts and every bit of it true.
OK I got into Photobucket, last time they wouldn't let me in with the same password so here are the grandmothers [Father's Mother on Left, My mother, Her mother and me, I'm the one that looks like the stick figure dressed like the pope] How Cheery do we all look, especially me. My uncle who is 4 yrs older told me the Bishop was going to smack me so hard my head would spin, I was scared then they told me to look holy....yeah right.

My mother gets so mad at me when I laugh about the hats. Nobody went anywhere without a hat and gloves. They were funny ladies, my father's mother getting a driver's lesson is hysterical, she never did get a license. My aunt took her test 9 times, Yeah we really wanted to ride with her!!!! My mother is funny too but she just doesn't understand why I need horses, I hear that every time I talk to her. I ask her why she needs a house full of clothes! Thankfully she LOVES Puppy, I never thought it would happen that my mother would love a dog but Puppy does nothing wrong in her eyes. The dog could rip the house up from one end of the other and she says "Oh she's so cute". That's good at least she likes one out of 10 of them!

It was quite a few years back and yes, we jumped the boarder quite a few times to Lake Geneva and as for FL well we had a house down there.
Today every state is 21 to drink. The only variances are going to be gambling ages from 18 to 21 in certain states and Indian reservations. You can gamble but if your not 21, you can not drink. How would you like to enforce those laws??!!
See, if we have an under aged gambler or ? we get fined, hotel/casino receives a fine not to mention you could lose you job and your sheriff's (or health) card.

I wouldn't want to associate myself with this girl if I were you. You should be out learning all you can and working hard to achieve your goal (of being a trainer). Made for some interesting reading huh Petra! I don't normally say much but she just rubbed me the wrong way, guess I'm just getting too old to deal with that kind of stuff.
See the difference is you would do something about your son if he acted that way but rather than telling her daughter to behave she came on here accusing everyone of cyber bullying or how ever she put it [If it was her mother]. That girl will never learn to do things the right way because she has a mother who defends everything she does wrong. When my husband was teaching and a kid was sent to the principal 9 times out of 10 the parents would blame the school because "their baby" would NEVER do anything wrong or they'd try to sue or the kid would demand a lawyer and wasn't teasing. If every parent was like you maybe things wouldn't be like they are. There are so many great kids but the ones who are pains in the neck seem to get all the attention. I planned on giving her no attention but again she rubbed me the wrong way and I couldn't keep my fingers still.
Natisha you did it again, I'm sitting here laughing like an idiot.

Don't really see how you know her mother defends everything she does wrong (from one post). My little 10 yr old sister types chatspeak.. should my mother be slapped on the hand for not correcting her?
My sister will eventually learn. Kids have to, they will learn regardless.. through exams, teachers getting angry at them etc. I actually find that I know a lot of girls who type chatspeak on the internet (a friend of mine is a prime suspect hehe) and she types correctly in school etc. AND she's a year older than me.
oursarge
05-02-2010, 02:28 PM
You are missing the point, it's not that her mother is defending the way she types it's that she was asked to stop and she came back with an attitude and instead of telling her daughter you don't act like that anywhere she defends her. I don't care how she types when she types with her friends, I don't care how she types when she's in school, I don't care how she talks, I basically don't care unless it effects me and I tried reading her first post to welcome her but couldn't get past the first couple sentences. I was going to ignore her but happened to click on this one and that's when the "fun" began.
The point is she was asked to stop it and she refused. That is what I am talking about. If WB asked you or your sister to stop something you were doing because this is her forum would you come back with an attitude and basically tell her you will do what ever you feel like? Would your mother come on here ranting and carrying on because you got your feelings hurt when you were rude and obnoxious to everyone who tried to help you belong to this forum? You don't seem the type to do that. I read your other post and you seemed to think it was pretty wrong too now all of a sudden as an adult I am wrong because I think the girl was rude and her mother should have told her to knock it off? She was asked to stop, she refused and her mother accused all of us of cyber bullying rather than telling her daughter if she wants to play the game play it right. My husband taught for 35 years and he has seen it all and in his experiences usually when a parent defends one thing their baby does they defend everything right down to trying to sue the school because their kid did nothing all year long and is failing their grade. The school is not always right but still there has to be respect somewhere and if you can't give someone like WB respect then you don't belong here, mother or daughter. I won't be talking about it anymore, it's done and over with but Petra has the right idea, more parents should be like her. The end.

Her mother doesn't understand the forum, so she doesn't understand that this isn't bullying. If it has been me in lightning's place, my mother would have said the same thing, I know she would have. But her mother hasn't read the guidelines and doesn't understand there are certain rules to follow. Its natural for a mother to stick up for her child aswell, especially if this has deeply upset lightning off the forum, which no one knows if it has or not. There was a terrible issue when I actually WAS being cyber bullied and my mum had to step in. It was terrible. I could be wrong, but I also could be right. And I'm not trying to start anything, I'm just having my opinion.
I understand that your husband has taught and knows about the perfect children that don't have anything wrong with them, when they DO.. My mother also teaches and has seen the same, and I've seen it and experienced it with bullying.. kids reported to the school and teachers standing up for them.
Regarding the issue of if I was being asked to stop something and not seeming the type to continue.. I guess it would depend on what I was doing xD I will keep doing something if I believe it is right, but if it isn't morally correct and I made a mistake, then no, I won't continue.
Thanks for your time :)

I talked to her in PM yesterday and she said that she "was standing up for what she believes in". I'm sorry, maybe I'm being picky, but honestly, speaking in chatspeak is not something that you "believe in". Its a habit that's really not that hard to break.
I understand that her mother was upset, but what really pissed me off was that she threw it in my face that I said Lightning was throwing a "bitch-fit". Gah that lit me on fire. My mom probably would have said the same thing, having not read the rules, just like your's Allie. But its such a small thing to get upset about... I just don't see the need for the drama. I do like that DramaLlama, however XD

She was never really 'asked' to stop, she was encouraged to do so & had the reasons explained to her. She could have just continued to post in jibberish & been ignored. She chose instead to get snotty-her choice.

Allie... there's a reason you're welcomed here, and all the other long-standing young members we have are welcomed here... You're nice, well rounded, reasonable people. I don't know the details of the cyber bullying you experienced, but I'm sure it wasn't just this, and I'm sure you didn't act like this gal first to deserve it.
And I do know that a few of you think I should have handled this differently. I understand the complaint, but I also think eh - everyone's a critic. No matter what I do or don't do I tick someone off... That's why I don't like moderating at all ;) I'm really tired now but will think about it and respond more tomorrow if I think of anything that will help.

I think you handled it wonderfully, WBay. I understand where you're coming from; you can't please everyone. But I think you did a very good job with this, as you always do :)

I think WB should be nominated for Sainthood, at least.
