I decided to start a new thread, since the old one was getting really long. But I have a dilemma here, over something that I never thought would happen. I can't decide where Oliver, the baby kitten I rescued that is being bottle fed, is going after he is weaned. I have been given many offers on him. Everything from a house home to a "well I need a new barn cat but don't expect him to be around too long". Ranking all of them in which would be the ideal home I've come down to two, but can't decide.

Both homes he would be a house cat, and would be fed, pampered, and kept up to date on vaccinations. One has more benefits for me, and the other one I do not personally know the people well.

Home #1:
Home number one is a young married couple. They do not have any other cats and have one beagle. They have never had a cat before. My mom works with the wife. The couple originally had two beagles, but found that they did not have the time nor energy for both, so returned one back to the breeder. Besides for that there is nothing else I really know about these people. I understand that a cat is much more independent than a energetic beagle, but Oliver will still be a kitten who may not know certain things being raised away from his mother. Oliver is currently in supervised contact with my 102 lb Giant Schnauzer, who considers him his baby. He will also be litter box trained and fixed before on to his new home. I am also planning on informing this couple, if I decide to give him to them, that if something doesn't work out he needs to come back to me.

Home #2:
Home number two is a lot more personal. My mom is afraid it may be a bit too personally. My boyfriend of almost a year (11 months) has taken extremely liking to the kitten. He currently has a roommate that already has a cat, and has had cats during his childhood as well as dogs, breeding bearded dragons, frogs, fish, and iguanas. He is very good with pets and very responsible. He does have the financial means to have a cat, just not enough time for a dog. If he did take him I would still be able to see Oliver. My boyfriend and I are in a serious relationship and hope to get married after I graduate college. Now, I understand that there is an extreme chance that this never happens, things could end badly, and I would never see Oliver again. But Nick is not the type of person to take his angry or any bad emotion out on a living creature.

So I need advice, what would you do if you were in my shoes? It's so hard for me to decide, neither of these homes would be bad for little Oliver.

Give the kitten to the boyfriend. He'd be offended if you didn't choose him, over someone you barely know.

You never know... you could end up in your own place within even the near future, and could have him with you. Both of them :)

Number 2 sounds better to me.

Number 1 already gave a beagle back...so maybe Oliver wouldn't last long either.

My mom has decided that since I have mostly raised Oliver by myself I can make this decision. Thanks everyone for the advice, I've decided that I will give Oliver to Nick (my boyfriend). :)

He said he is still going to take to his roommate about it to make sure everything is O.K. They do have another male cat, so Oliver will probably be in Nick's room and family room area which can be closed off from the kitchen and Josh and his girlfriend's room. Nick said he doesn't want to leave a younger kitten with an older male unsupervised, so he'll watch the two when he gets home from work. The other cat, Shakers isn't a big tom cat and not very dominate towards anything so hopefully the two will be O.K together when Oliver gets older. Nick nor his roommate nor girlfriend aren't partiers so don't have to worry about that.

So if something doesn't work out and Nick can't take Oliver I'll give home number one a call. They do slightly worry me since they gave back a beagle. I know that beagles are extremely energetic, especially puppies, but they should have read up on that and made a wiser decision instead of bringing two beagle puppies home. Oliver also just turned 4 weeks, and I'll keep him another month before taking him to his new home. Still more time to see if anyone else is interested if things fall through with Nick.

I just want the little guy to have the best life possible. He was such a fighter and made it through when the odds were against him. He is such a sweetie, he will be a wonderful pet for someone. It will be so hard to see him go, I've bonded with him so much.

It is a very admirable thing to do.

Yes, I have a few new pictures of him. He has grown so much its unreal. It's hard to get good pictures of him though since the little bugger follows me. Did I mention how hard it going to be to let him go? :innocent: I'll see if I can snap a few more good ones tonight and then I'll upload them on here.

Thanks HE. I have some great parents that allowed me to bring him home, I just couldn't leave him in the state he was in. He is such a sweet little guy and really is going to be a great cat. I would keep him if my dad wasn't allergic.
