View Full Version : What do you think this saddle is worth?

I'm sorta kinda kicking around the idea of selling my barrel saddle. Originally I had plans of barrel racing Beauty but that's not going to happen. So since I just trail ride now and school her in the arena, I don't know if I need this barrel saddle. It's a 14" which does fit me fine, but I like a 15" better for trail riding because it's roomier. Of course she's not my trail horse, Dakota is and this saddle doesn't fit him anyway. So it's fine for schooling her. But then my Big Horn fits her her too, so maybe I don't need this saddle. I don't know. I can't decide.:o

But, just in case I do decide to sell it, what would you say it was worth? It's a FQHB 14" barrel saddle with a suade seat, well made (in my opinion) but not name brand. It says "Armstrong Saddlery" or something like that on the latigo strap holder, which is somewhere in Ohio (because it also says "Ohio" on it.) I bought it from Beauty's old owners. They told me it was a 15" but according to how it feels fit-wise and my measurements it's not.

Oh wow, the pictures are huge. I'm sorry, I didn't realize I had the size setting wrong. I'll work on fixing that asap.:o

ETA: ok, the size should have changed. I made them smaller on photobucket and repasted the links here. So what is the problem. I'll keep working on it.

I did measure it. According to me and my tape it's a 14". But I'll do it again since that was last summer, maybe it grew!:p

My first thought was $300. It's no-name, but quality no-name. That will dock you points because everyone is looking for brands.

I know nothing about saddles, but Beauty is still beautiful :)

That's what I was thinking too. I *think* I paid $300 for it but I'm not sure. I may not sell it though, I can't decide.:innocent:

Bessie13: Thank you!:)

You can check what used saddles go for at local tack shops, also see what similar items are on ebay and watch to see what they sell for, that will give you a reasonable starting place. Last check the horse classified sites and see what people are asking.

Think about what it would cost you to replace it later on. That is how I would decide if I wanted to sell it or not.

$250-300 is fair.

IMHO- you know what the saddle is, could come in handy, KEEP IT!

Good point. I probably will keep it. Part of me wants to keep it, but the other half wants the money so I can buy Beauty's hoofboots, etc. But I probably should keep it.

I don't have a picture from when I measured the saddle the last time and I haven't done it again since because I haven't decided for sure if I want to sell it yet.:innocent: But if I do decide to sell it I'll be sure to measure it again and get a picture to make sure I'm doing it correctly:) (pretty sure I am).

This is one of those things you keep, 'cause the minute you sell it you're going to need it. Just my personal experience with selling tack.

But I'd say $250-300.

If I were you I would keep it. You never know if some time down the road you might start barrel racing even if it is for fun. ;)

Honestly, I'd keep it. It's not costing you anything to keep it but it will cost you $$ to replace it. CG is right too, maybe someday down the road you want to do barrels again, even if it is for fun! Just my opinion, I'd keep it!

Ya know, I'd hold onto it. You might end up barrel racing...never say never ;)...I didn't think Cloe would be where she is, but tah-dah, hard work paid off! :D Beauty can do it, just keep working on it and I know how much you want to barrel race, you guys can do it. (:
