View Full Version : My Noah might be dying

I'm sorry to come on here like this. I never do stuff like this but I am beside myself. I'm hoping someone might have had this experience with a good outcome.
My dog Noah is 11 1/2 today. I went to the stable and came home. He was fine. I put food in his dish and went to give him his chicken which he gets about every time the fridge gets open. He wouldn't take the chicken and his eyes went all funny and I guess he had a seizure. He lost control of himself and he threw up too and was foaming. It was terrifying. He couldn't walk but was trying to walk. I called my husband home from work, called the vet and rushed him there. I thought he died in the Escape but he perked up a little but not much. They took blood and his kidneys are not good but yet his potassium levels are really bad which can make the kidney #'s look bad. He also has lyme disease. He is so sick and it came from nowhere, no symptoms before this. I just do not understand how this can happen with no signs of anything wrong before. The vet asked if he throws up alot and he doesn't. Tomorrow we'll find out if the fluids helped him, if not his kidneys won't be able to function if I'm understanding right and we'll probably have to do what nobody wants to do. I am so sick, I don't even know where to turn. He didn't want to stay there we had to trick him, as out of it as he was he still didn't want to leave me and the vet wouldn't let me sleep on the floor there. I'm terrified he'll die tonight all alone. He's never spent any time away from this house except at Christmas when he goes to my parent's house but we're with him. When we go on vacation he stays here and so do my parents. I just hope my baby is OK, he's with me all the time, our house is so dead tonight and his little toys are around my heart is being ripped out. I just want him to get better.
I normally don't tell my problems to anyone else but I'm so terrified I'm going to loose my baby. I have one in the hospital and a limping horse who is on Bute. Can this day get much worse.

Oh, I am so sorry, oursarge. Although Noah was unhappy about staying in the hospital overnight, it's the best thing for him. You're doing what you can to take care of him and that's most important.
The vet should have a lot more information for you tomorrow. One of our cocker spaniels had similar symptoms. He went on phenobarbitol and had many more good years. Just try to be as strong as you can be overnight. We'll be looking forward to hearing from you tomorrow and will send good thoughts and prayers for Noah in the meantime.

Oh I'm very sorry. What a hard night to spend. I do hope he makes it and you can see him in the morning.
What is it they think was the trigger here?
Thank you everyone. I can not even function, I have other guys to take care of but can't stop crying long enough to do anything but type here hoping that someone might have had the same experience with a good outcome. Noah is my life, I've had him since he was 7 week old and he's with me all the time except when I go to the stable and he could go there too but he'd probably fight with their dogs. His only fault is being dog aggressive and why we couldn't ever get another dog as much as I wanted a friend for him. He made it clear he didn't want a friend that was a dog.
We don't know what set this in motion. The vet said the Lyme Disease can hurt the kidneys and the lack of potassium can too. He doesn't understand why there were no symptoms. I watch my animal so closely, he teases my husband about it since I've been known to call him at home at 11 pm if I think one of them needs him so he knows I don't ignore anything. Noah didn't eat first thing this a.m. but that's not unusual, he ate later on. When I came home he was jumping around happy to see me. There was not one indication that he was not feeling good 'til he started having a seizure. I'll never get that out of my head. It was horrible and to see his eyes look so dead because he's always had the brightest eyes. I just hope they can help him. Thank you again. I hope he pulls through this and will be the same boy we love. We thought we'd have to put him to sleep tonight because he was just so sick but the vet said we'd try this and hope it works. Thank you.

One hour, or perhaps one minute at a time, oursarge. Just try to function as well as you can.
I also thought that we lost our beloved Barney when he had his first seizure. And they hyperventilate so much that their blood becomes over-oxygenated and breathing is no longer necessary for some number of seconds. I thought Barney died at that point, too. But he recovered, responded to the anti-seizure medicine and was healthy for several more years.
Bless you and just hang in there as well as you can.

Jackie B, I hope it was the Potassium levels that sent him into the seizures and if they can get them up maybe his kidneys will function better. I am happy that your Barney did well, that is giving me some hope. I want him to be OK so badly but to see him like he was is ripping my heart out. He is the bounciest dog, always so happy. I'm trying hard not to have him dead and buried, the vet didn't say there was no hope so I keep trying to hope but yet I am terrified. I hope tomorrow night he'll be home licking the cats on the head. He's the most beautiful boy but tonight he just looked awful. The vet and everyone in the office is so nice, I know they will do all they can for him and be good to him, I just hope that he's out of it enough that he doesn't realize I am not with him but yet even as sick as he was he wanted me to hold his hand, he always wants me to hold his hand. Oh my heart is just breaking. Animals are great to have until they get sick then it's just the worst.
My husband always says that we adopt them to keep them alive and do the best we can for them so they have good lives and I know that but I never want to let them go. I hope so much that it's not his time yet but I won't have him suffering to keep him just a little longer and he's in agony but I am trying so hard to think the potassium will work especially since he had no symptoms of bad kidneys. I lost a poodle to kidney failure and it was obvious she has a problem but the vet couldn't help her.
I'll let everyone know tomorrow. The Dr said we should know in the a.m. if the potassium brought his kidney #'s up [or down, which ever way is better I don't know]. Thank you for all of your support, I appreciate it, tonight is going to be a long night, I wish the vet let me sleep there, I can't even go to bed because Noah always slept with me, I can't go in that room.

Just try not to let your mind race toward sorrowful thoughts if you can help it. As you said, the vet will do everything possible. Nothing will be gained by worrying and you need as much energy as you can muster for Noah. I know that's easier said than done, but try as hard as you can to think positive thoughts.
Even when our beloved pets and horses live a long and fulfilled life, it's still never long enough for us. So, I remind myself that we can take any suffering and sadness upon ourselves to that they can know the love and happiness that they all so richly deserve.

Just reading about this is making me cry - I can completely picture myself in your place. My own beloved dog is 8 years old and we have had him since he was a few months old. Until this year when we moved, he had never been away from his home overnight. I am teary just thinking about how horrible it will be to someday be in your place - I am so sorry for the sadness I know you have!
Best wishes for your sweet boy.

Thanks Morgan. The vet said his kidneys and low potassium and the Lyme Disease are all working together against him. I guess that the low potassiumm can cause seizures I don't know. I was in such a state I am not even sure what he was telling me except we'd know today what is up. I didn't sleep most of the night and every where I look in this house Noah is here with his toys etc. It's just so hard. I don't know where this will end up and I'm not sure when the office opens to even know if he made it through the night. It's the not knowing that is hard. I keep hoping he will bounce back once the potassium levels are built up. He has IVs and a cathater in him. He was out of it so I'm hoping he's not scared, he acted like he didn't even know where he was. Normally when he goes there he's all over the place.
I just can not understand how this can happen without something leading up to it like not eating or acting sick or what ever. He was acting normal then bam out of nowhere. Our neighbor's dog had Lyme Disease and he started limping then got worse. That never happened with Noah. I guess I'll know more later, after 10. I keep watching the clock and in one way I just want to know and in another I am dreading what I might hear.
He's had ticks on him but I thought they were wood ticks, they were big. I don't know why we have so many ticks here, Noah is not outside more than 5 minutes a day. Our neighbor's dog is mostly an outside dog, he gets Frontline put on him but he still gets ticks, when I was taking care of him I pulled 40 off of him in one day. They were all dead but they still bit him, I guess they die after they bite when Frontline is used. I can't see how that is a help since the dog still got sick. We don't even live in the woods but the ticks are terrible.
Thank you again everyone. I normally really don't tell anyone about my stress but I felt I had to share this to ask if anyone else dealt with it and had a good outcome. I wish I could look at my animals as just animals but they are my babies.

Hoping for a good update this morning. When our dog got Lymes it hit him very fast too, like yours. One day he was running around, then the next morning he couldn't walk and I had to carry him to the car to take to the vet. Good news though, he's running around like crazy again... no worse for the wear!

11-07-2008, 05:27 AM
The vet's office is open now and no phone call so I'm assuming he made it through the night. Maybe getting the IV's [Potassium and also anti biotic for the Lymes] will help him and save his kidneys. I felt so stupid because the vet kept asking me "Did he throw up alot, did he do this did he do that" and I kept saying No he was normal, chasing the cats, running to play with Roger Rabbit, going in the garage with me to get the horse's food ready, poking at the bird cages. There was nothing different. I feel like I missed something but I don't know what. He'd even tear up and down the deck steps chasing the deer on the other side of his fence.
The vet said they won't know anything until later in the a.m. because they want to give the fluids time to work then repeat the blood work. We'll see. His age isn't working for him. 11 1/2 is not great but yet he never acted his age, to see him you'd never guess he was 11 1/2. I guess it's time to go see the horses and see if Rompy is limping. Hopefully he's doing better. I am now wondering if horses get Lymes since I've taken ticks off of him. I'll find that out today and maybe have the vet come and take blood. He thinks it's from the trim though since he was OK 'til he got trimmed. He was pretty bad last night though.
Thank you again, I can't even tell you what your support means to me. My husband isn't much help because he's being ripped apart too, he couldn't even hold it together last night, he loves Noah so much too. He's the one who found Noah at the shelter area of PetsMart. He is afraid of all dogs but the ones we've had. He loves ours but is pretty much scared of other people's [When we went for Molly the kitten the people have 100 lb german shepherd, I was on the floor petting his stomach just loving on him and my man was in panic mode scared 1/2 to death of the dog. My cousin had a super friendly Doberman and it went near him and he was saying "That dog is coming near me, keep it away" the dog was like a big baby but he's scared] and he's a total mess so we can't even talk about it because we both end up crying. Hoping for a good outcome and preparing for the worst. Today is the 32nd year of us knowing each other. A happy day then, not so happy right now but maybe it will be good. I can only hope.

Oh hon..................big hugs coming your way. Tick borne illnesses are a real conundrum for medical personnel. There are so many symptoms and so many different tick diseases it is hard to know for sure what is going on until things get severe. I know, I am being treated for a Non-Lyme's tick borne illness, it kicks my butt every so often. I am back on the antibiotics now.
Hoping for the best......I know, I was miserable when Kabota was in the hospital for surgery after he got hit. I was so depressed when he was lost. I slept with him most the night, his first night home. Just holding his paw and stroking him, he also likes us to hold his paw..............LOL.

Thank you everyone, we just talked to the vet and Noah is coming home. He said he's much better this a.m. All of his #'s are good. It's all the Lymes Disease causing this as far as they can tell. He won't eat there but he says he's acting fine. They gave him all kinds of fluids. He is going to x-ray his abdomen just to make sure there are no tumors but he thinks this is all because of the ticks. I do not know what we can do about them.
We pick him up between 3and 4 today. I just hope that he will continue to be OK for a long while. I can't wait to have my baby home. Thank you again for the support, if the X-ray comes out good we'll be good for awhile I hope. He'll be on anti biotics for a month. He was so so sick last night I never thought I'd get good news even though I was hoping for it. Thank you, I can't stop crying!

Thank you everyone. I can't believe my baby will be back home with me in a few hrs. I can not believe that something like a tick can do that to a dog. When our neighbor's dog had it he limped some first then got so he couldn't walk but he didn't do what Noah did and Noah never limped he went from running around to seizure. I dont' know what we're going to do with the ticks. I can't spray poison in his yard. Frontline doesn't work, my friend wants me to take Chickens but I think Noah might think chickens are lunch and kill them. Anyone have tick killing solutions that are safe?
He never spends more than 5 minutes a day outside because of the ticks, that's why I don't take him for a walk or anything. I hate that he can't go for a walk we never had a problem with ticks 'til a few yrs ago and since I found the first one and he had an allergic reaction to it I've been as careful as I can which means he stays in more than any of my other dogs ever did.
Now I'm wondering about my horse because he's worse as far as his limp goes, the Bute hasn't helped him so tomorrow if he's not a little better the vet is coming out and taking blood and testing him since I've pulled alot of ticks off of him. We're still leaning towards the trim though only because he's walking on his toe and it was the heel that was growing funny so maybe the heel is hurting him. I think his foot looks a little swollen but maybe not, it could be how he's standing. Since horses can get tick diseases and if he can't find anything else wrong he'll test him. I can't stand looking out and seeing him hopping around, it's heartbreaking. It's always something.
I will let everyone know when Noah gets home and hopefully he will be fine for a long time. Your support has been so helpful, I don't know what I would have done without you all. XXX Annie

Oh Sarge - I am so sorry about Noah! I'm glad to hear that he's coming home today... but very sad about the Lyme. They often give dogs with Lyme Disease doxicycline but it is a big dose for a lot of days and in aged dogs it can be very hard on them. http://www.caberfeidh.com/Lyme.htm http://www.drschoen.com/articles_L1_11.html I am very thankful that I don't see a lot of ticks here and that Frontline seems to work for us.

I have alot of questions for the vet. Noah will be on anti biotics for a month and I will ask about how much of a problem they will be on his system. Since people around here have found out about Noah we've heard of other dogs with the disease and they didn't make out so great. Our neighbor's dog gets flare ups now and then but he's mostly fine. One dog went blind and lost all bodily functions but I'm not sure if that was before or after treatment. The vet seemed to think he bounced back good though, we'll see. We're going for him in about 1/2 an hr, it takes 40-45 minutes to get there. I will know as soon as I see him how he is. His quality of life has to be good since if it's not he won't be happy. I can only hope he will truly be fine.
My friend had guinea hens they were loud, if we were in the barn we couldn't hear if we were trying to talk on the phone! I always heard they were good for ticks though. I didn't think that we could spray anything since it might kill the ticks and the dog too but we should look into it, the miserable things just won't die. Lymes is terrible around here, people have it, animals have it. One more reason to get out of this area I think.
I have my fingers crossed he will be back to how he was before last night. I'll let you know when he's home. Thank you! Chevel I appreciate what you said, I always am one who keeps my misery to myself, but this one I couldn't keep to myself, my baby is my life and you have all been so nice to me.

Oursarge, I don't know what your property there is like but we use a garlic concentrate here (www.mosquitobarrier.com (http://www.mosquitobarrier.com)) because the mosquitoes were so bad then learned that it was also great for ticks and fleas as well. We have 15 acres and pretty much just spray out tree line but even the horses don't get ticks when we use this.
If he gets to roam alot then you might try something like this: http://www.springtimeinc.com/product/148/2 though we have not used it so I can't attest to its ability.
I hope he continues to recover well!

Oh heck girl, get some Ortho, its in a red container, spray the heck out of your yard, keep the dog off it for a day, less if its warmer. It just needs to dry out. It will kill ticks, fleas, ect, and it is fine for the dogs once dry.
Been using it for yrs, and my place was over come with ticks when I moved in, I have cows next door, ect ect ect. I dont do ticks or fleas.
I use a 2 gallon sprayer now, but used the hose the first few times, spray it heavy the first couple times, you want them buggers gone.
((HUGS)) wish you lived closer, id come do it for ya...lol

Hey Sarge - did the vet actually do the "snap test" or are they assuming based on the sypmptoms that it's Lyme? Will he be sending out for the C6 test that will tell you more about the stage of Lymes your dog is in? It takes a little longer to get back the more thorough test as it's sent out to a lab but the snap test is used in offices to quickly let you know if your dog has it... it hasn't been around that long.
Just like with humans and horses, the antibiotics mess with the digestive system by killing off the good stuff so you should probably put him on a probiotic to help his tummy out while he's on the drugs. After reading all about your personal battle with sugar I know that you know first hand what happens when a body gets over run with yeast.
Lots of dogs recover from the bad bouts of Lyme and go on for years with just the off and on joint pain. I'm hoping for the best for you and Noah... keep happy thoughts going and EXPECT him to be healthy.:)

I am Doxycycline again for the "Non Lyme's tick born illness". Got a 30 day supply this time. Hope he recovers. I have to treat my yard for ants, I use the ortho granules that you spread around and then sprinkle with water. Has the benefit of killing ticks and fleas as well. Even with that and Frontline, I still have found a tick on Kabota and me..........I am really freaked out about ticks now.

Gosh I am so glad that Noah is OK....I was so scared as I read thru all the posts.....my computer has not been working quite right and sometimes I haven't been able to get online so I just now saw this.
I would make sure that the vet did the tests needed to make sure it was Lyme disease....and also check and make sure it isn't anaplasmosis. Anaplasmosis is very similar to Lyme as it is also caused by ticks, I had the misfortune to find out all about anaplasmosis last May when Bentley, out of the blue, all of a sudden got super sick. He started out limping and yelping in pain, and I rushed him to the vet.....found out it was anaplasmosis. Bentley got worse and was paralyzed for a couple days (he wasn't able to use his hind legs at all), and he nearly didn't make it, anaplasmosis can kill dogs. So, I would check for ALL kinds of tick-borne diseases. The only thing that saved my Bentley was the Doxycycline, he had to be on it for a month (I made sure that I fed him food along with the Doxycycline as it can be hard on the tummy). He was also on a pain meds for a while too. It was an ordeal I pray we never have to experience again.
Well I am so relieved that Noah is OK. I know what you mean....I cried for days when Bentley got so sick....it scared me so bad, it just happened so fast, one minute he was fine and the next he was near-death. Very terrifying thing to go thru. I ended up losing my job because of it (I had to miss some work when the vet wasn't able to keep Bentley for me while I was at work), but I'd do the same thing for Bentley again if I had to. Give Noah a big smooch and a hug for me!

That made me laugh--just pictured you, Vick, dressed like Wonderwoman or something coming to save Oursarge and spraying those nasties!!! http://bestsmileys.com/fire/1.gif(well, it's not ticks, but it's the closest I could come!)

Thank you everyone. We'll be spraying something. Hopefully we can find it this time of year. From what some experts are saying the ticks here are some of the worst in this area of PA. We have tons of deer, that could be it, it's nothing to look out and see 30 deer in our yard. I love deer but I wish they'd keep their ticks to themselves.
HE'S HOME! When we got there the Dr said I'd be happy to know that he is back to his normal self, hating all of them and wanting out of there. His eyes are bright, his coat is shiny, last night he was so dull, he looked like death and I knew he was sick to let them even touch him because as nice as everyone is and he really does like them he doesn't want to be there. He's been running like a maniac since he got home, when he came out of the exam room he ran into the reception area to see those girls, he's OK with them since they don't have needles or anything! When he saw me he came running to me and jumped right up on me, I don't think he thought he'd see us or home again, he's so happy to be home.
I am not exactly sure what kind of test he did for the Lymes. The Dr was shocked how fast the potassium #'s came up which made the kidney #'s perfectly normal. He's very happy with how he's doing. the X-ray was perfect. I am happy too because he's chasing the cats, licking them but I'm still nervous too, I have to try to get last night out of my head. The Dr doesn't actually think he had a seisure, he thinks that it was because his potassium was about non existant he lost the ability to function. I just know he couldn't stand up, he kept falling over and lost all control of his bodily functions. He's on an anti biotic, I have Probiotics here and I think they can be used on dogs. I know I gave them to my horse I think they are called Probios. I have them for myself too but he'd probably take the other stuff better, I think they have a website and that's how I learned to use them for Romperoo, it was so much for the first and last day of the antibiotic and a lesser amount in between. I'm going to look to see if they can be used on dogs since he has to take the medication for a month. He also has something for his stomach since his stomach was so upset. He wouldn't eat there but since he's been home he had a taste of chicken and stole the cat treats and had a doggy cookie, I wish he'd eat the food I put in his dish. He's acting more like himself. I just hope we can keep him like this.
I am a worrier and since that happened I keep thinking how can I keep it from happening again and it's hard seeing that in my head, I can't get it out of my head.
Noah says thank you for all of your prayers and good wishes, he appreciates them and his mother really appreciates them. This house was so awful without him, it's alive again now. I'm going to sit on the floor with him now and let him kiss me like he likes to do. I never thought we'd be able to do it again. Thank you for everything!

Where's yer thread on sugar and yeast?
We're very happy, he just shared my supper with me. He likes doing that. Now he needs his own supper. I called my natural healer and the girl at the desk thinks my probiotics would be OK for him but she's checking. I like mine since they are totally natural, no junk in them. The problem with some people ones you buy in a pharmacy is that they have yeast in them! Not a good thing when you are battling yeast. The other ones I have are for horses and I guess that company makes dog ones but it doesn't say you can use the horse ones for dogs so maybe mine will be better for him.
I talked about the sugar and yeast on the other forum. I can do a "short" version here. I had IBS for many years but it kept getting worse and worse. So bad that I couldn't leave the house without taking 5 Imodiums and 4 Anti Spasmodics. The Drs all patted me on the head telling me it was my nerves because I am a mess as far as worrying as you can tell by reading all of this thread! I ended up thinking I was crazy and I went to a shrink, I called him my "hippie shrink". He's very new age really. I loved going to him but couldn't afford the horses and him so he had to go. He kept saying I do have OCD and some other issues but he thought it was physical. He gave me the name of his natural healer, I had heard of her because 1/2 the people around here go to her [She saved my friend's life, that's a real long story]. When I went to her she said I had a thyroid problem which I was told I didn't by regular Drs, I had 4 tests that came up negative. She also said that I had yeast in my intestines. I sat there crying because she was the first person that didn't brush me off with the "You're just nervous" thing.
She put me on a total sugar free/yeast free diet. No kind of sugar at all, no bread, nothing I liked, no pasta either and no dairy products. Under beverages it said "Water" on the diet. I told her "Kill me now". I also take Probiotics and Sporex for the yeast and I had a suppliment for the thyroid. The yeast went away but I stay on the diet because while on the diet I lost over 60 lbs, about 68 I think. I will cheat once in awhile but mostly I stick to the no sugar and I haven't had any type of bread at all in 3 years. I'd rather do without the food than have those other problems. It was really awful. Just recently she found out I'm allergic to all the ingredients in most shampoos [My head was all scabs, so was my face and behind my ears and neck] so I have to use a special shampoo and conditioner and the scabs are going away. My head was a mess. My ever so helpful man told me he thought I had lice!!!!!

This isn't a new picture [all of our cameras need to be recharged] and I think I posted it before but it's my favorite one of my boy. I'm so happy he's home. I think he's tired now he's sound asleep, I think I'll go lay by him. They cut some hair on his neck and he has a bandage on his arm, he looks strange with the hair cut off but I don't care as long as he's here with me.
We have a video camera but I don't know how to put the videos on here, I'd have to wait 'til my house looked better, with all the stress everything looks like a tornado went through, junk thrown everywhere! Maybe tomorrow if I remember I can do an outside one and see if my man can figure out how to do a video. I did take videos of Rompy and made the vet look at them, he still thinks it's a trim issue since he's walking on his toes.

I am sorry to hear about the worry you've had with Noah lately. I've gone through early stage NON SYMPTOMATIC lymes with 2 of my dogs. I've worked for a vet and seen some of the later diagnosed Lyme's issues. We have a dog at work who is 18 months old and has a rare form of kidney cancer. She was given 3 months to live at the most, and she's still going strong nearly 6 months after diagnosis. Don't get me wrong the kidney cancer will kill her eventually, however there are supportive things you can do with the kidneys to help them work more effectively and reduce stress on them, and its working fabulously in Nella. If you need to talk feel free to email me, or if you want you can pm me for my phone number and I'll be glad to talk to you about what I know, and whats helped others. I'm working this weekend and my access to email etc. is somewhat limited, but I'll check in as often as I can.

Noah says thank you. He thinks he's pretty cute too, he's always liked looking at himself in the mirror!
He doesn't seem quite as perky this a.m. Last night he was all over the place but this a.m. he isn't running so much, maybe last night he was just happy to be home. I hope he's OK. He slept good last night and ate his treats this a.m., I'm probably just going to be worrying about his every move.
The lymes has me nervous since it came from nowhere and I hope we can get rid of it without it damaging anything in him.
It's just nice to have him here, I hope he'll be here and healthy for a long time. He's such a good and precious boy.

Awww, thats right, Noah is a Collie, very sensitive pups. Seems like I have to be careful with mine, what type wormer she uses, no Ivermectin for her, only certain heart worm prevention meds can be taken..
Noah is such a pretty boy. Thanks for the pic. Sure cant wait for new ones....hint hint...LOL

Vicklynn, did you notice one of those heartworm boxes had a border collie on it and the stuff has Ivermectin in it? I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I think that my friend's collie might have died before they knew about Collies and Ivermectin don't mix. The dogs used to grab the wormers after the horses were wormed and one day she found that her female collie died in the night right after a horse worming day and her male dog started having seizures right after that. She didn't give them the wormer they'd find it where she'd throw it away and lick it. She'd take it away but they might have gotten enough to do damage. I can't say they were all connected but it was strange. When we got Noah and they went to give him heartworm medication I questioned them that it was one that didn't have Ivermectin in it. I drive those poor people crazy but I figure they might get busy and not think.
Noah is very sensitive, I've never had a sensitive dog like him. He can see feelings so clearly. If I cry he's right there and the other night I was trying to be so brave so he wouldn't know how upset I was, I didn't want him to be upset. He looks bad with his leg all shaved and a hunk of hair off of his neck but I will see if he'll pose. He used to be a great poser and now he walks towards the camera. Silly boy.
I didn't think he was too perky this a.m. but maybe he was tired because he's perky now, I just held him for a long time and he's licking me and the cats. He's such a good boy. Thank you everyone for caring. I just picked a miserable tick off of him. Home a few hrs and had a big tick. I couldn't believe it.
He's been wanting to be out with the birds, he loves being with them, I called my parents to tell them Noah is home etc and when I said good bye to them my bird Tyler said to them "Okay Okay Bye Bye"! Then I took Noah into the garage so he could help do our job which is getting hay and food for Roger and Tyler said to him "Noah No get back here". Sometimes he can go out sometimes he can't when my man goes to work he can't so I'll just tell him No so she's picked up on that, there are some days she tells him No before I can! She is so silly. At least we've had some laughs this a.m. with Tyler the Wonder bird!!!!

Noah pretty much ignores her but she is funny. She's obsessed with Roger Rabbit. All day long I hear "Where's Roger, What Roger Doin? I LOVE Roger" First word every a.m. is "ROGERRRR" She is just so comical especially how she loves the bunny, she learned his name the first night he was here. Last night she flew down and landed on Noah, he just looked at her. I thought he'd listen to her more but he doesn't, probably a good thing since she's so bossy he'd be afraid to move!!!!!

Thank you WB, he seems like he's doing fine and has forgotten all about the other night. I wish I could wipe it out of my mind and wish I could stop worrying it will happen again once the medication is done with. I wish I could sleep, I'm like a zombie.
He was a little tired this a.m. since I think that being at the vet's was quite stressful for him especially when he felt better but now he's doing things he always does, jumping on the couch in the sun room to bark at cars, helping to feed Roger Rabbit, jumping up on me so I'll hold him, all the things he always does. I'm very happy and he's getting alot more hugs than he normally gets and he normally gets ALOT! I'm thrilled that he's home.
The Vet's office called to make sure he's eating etc. and they were happy he is and the girl said she thinks that he will be fine. I looked some stuff up on line and it was confusing and scary so I stopped looking and I will just do what ever the vet says and hope he has a complete recovery. The thing that bothers me most I guess is that it is always in their body but I am going to ask my vet about taking him in every once in awhile for testing his potassium levels.
Thank you again.

Guess I didnt look at the box, so no, didnt see the pic. But I can imagine.
Im sorry for your friend, that had to of been sad.
I rebox my wormer and toss it in my garbage bag asap. Its where the dogs cant get at it.
Thing still to watch for, is when a horse spits the wormer. I get my collie out of the pasture asap. They are usually with me when Im out with the horses.
If you point at Noah, does he think hes in trouble. If he going out in the yard, do you NOT have to say hes in trouble, he already knows it. And its worse just knowing it, so you end up not doing anything, except maybe scolding, and they will NOT be bad for a couple weeks. Lady is that way, such the turd, yet such the proper Lady...lol I love their senses. They are so independent, yet dependable, and dependent, when they want, and usually for a short time.
OH, does Noah stare you down. I have NEVER had a dog stare at me like Lady does. She wins after about 15 min, and all the dogs gets treats.

11-08-2008, 11:42 AM
Oh yes Noah is good at staring me down! It's so comical, he stares my husband down when my husband is eating supper just stares and stares. He ends up getting food!!!! He likes to sit by me and have me hold his hand and he stares at me, I always ask him what he is wanting me to say, I tell him what a good boy he is and how cute, he loves to hear he's cute.
I don't normally have to ever yell at him since he does know what he is and isn't allowed to do and if he thinks he's done something bad he gets all upset. That was what happened the other night because he lost control of things and I had to clean up the floor and he was just so upset on top of everything. I told him he was OK and not in trouble. Really the only time will not listen is when he barks at the neighbors when they go out our private road, he goes insane barking. One reason he can't go out alone without a fence because I'm sure he'd run right in the middle of the road after them. He looses all sense of anything when he sees a car. It's pretty scary. If a stranger comes to the house he will always put himself between me and them. He's very protective and that's about the only time he will bite, we have to be careful of anyone coming in and touching me.
Other than that and his dislike of other dogs he is pretty much a perfect dog, he's a kind dog. I love him so much I hope we'll get through all of this and it won't happen again. He's pretty much doing everything he normally does, if I get up he's right with me, I don't move without him being right with me then he stands at the fridge like "Well open the door and give me chicken"!!!!!
It was very sad with my friend's dogs. We're not 100% sure that is what happened but it made sense since I knew they'd go after the wormer on worming days. I always pack mine in the box again too just in case but Noah doesn't go out with me because he doesn't like the horses. I wish he did.
Have you told your fuzzy family about the new member they are getting to shake them up a bit? That'll be so much fun seeing that little puppy with the others.

Noah is so beautiful, what a handsome dog! I love Collies, they're super-sweet, a friend of mine had a Collie many years ago. I know what you mean about sensitive dogs....my Cavalier Bentley is like that, he is so sensitive and he is so attached to me, he follows me everywhere and I can tell he gets a bit upset when I leave to go anywhere, I'm glad I have my Poodle, Bailey, to keep him company, Bailey is more independent, but those two really adore each other, so it helps Bentley when I'm not home.
Glad Noah is doing better, it took me a couple months after Bentley's bout with anaplasmosis before I totally relaxed at all....I was always so scared to go anywhere and leave him alone, worried he'd get ill when I was gone (I live alone), but he has made a very good recovery. The doxycycline helped him so much, it is really important to keep them on that if they've got tick disease.
I have IBS too.....and have had some terrible troubles with it.....I will have to look into a sugar-free and bread-free diet....maybe that would help me. I know how devastating IBS can be. That's great that you are doing better, I was just telling a friend of mine not very long ago that I want to find a natural healer around here.

At the fridge, ears perked, whats for me. Oh, I heard that, mom is cutting cheese(the food), must be a bite for me too, yup, as usual. Lady will come to the door with her head down if she left the property, or dosnt come when called. What can ya do. Pretty much the only time I get mad is when she wont come, cause she thinks shes in trouble. Silly girl, puts herself in trouble. I like that she knows she was wrong, thats enough for me, but not coming, thats a no no...lol Collies sure are happy pups though, and smart, I tell ya, they know what you are thinking.
As far as the puppy, ya, I tell them, and I cuddle them, especially Shyla, she is my dependent dog. Funny, she is my protector, but is very dependent the same, a very loving dog, loves to play with anyone, or any dog. Shes my cuddle bug. Lady, thats gonna be another issue. She is patient, and has turned other dogs away, as her and Shy are buds, nothing gets between them except Gizzy. I honestly think, the reason they did not accept that other heeler was, she had mental issues, honestly, cause Ive seen them with dogs, and they are happy. Im not worried though, both girls will mother the pup. Poor Gizzy wont know what to do when he gets home, he will probably head for his crate..LMBO, what the heck is that, its more bouncy than me.
Ive been thinking IBS,,what is that, oh, then the light came on...lol. My issue is my colon, I have to watch it, but I have found that, olive oil(I go on a salad binge), vinegar, lemon juice w/warm water, really helps me when Im having an attack. May want to try that out. I eat alot of salad so I have to eat Raspberry dressing, get lots of oil that way. Nummmmmmmers.
