I'm always willing to give the benefit of the doubt, but like Stalknndashadows and FatSpottedAppy, I'm rather sensitive when it comes to things like this. I have had artwork copied before, although I don't do commissions, and I think that might be a bit more of a gray area when it comes to artists.

That said, I don't think these pictures are direct re-colors. For example:

There are differences, mainly in terms of the lines looking crisper and the coloring being sharper for WSTopDeck's art, however, the poses are similar enough that it might be difficult for someone not to think that they're not copied.

I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with using art as a model. I know with my art, I've used model horses as visuals because I can't draw legs very well, and being able to see how they look on a model horse is really useful. But my art is enough of my own that it doesn't look exactly the same.

If it were me, I wouldn't try and get artist permission after the fact, they can be pretty irate, although WSTopDeck has some great lineart if her rules are followed (She drew a Haffie, so much love!) but in this case, I'd probably start over from scratch and delete everything. LMM, perhaps using Breyer models as a visual might be easier than dealing with an artist.

Yes, copying peeves me off, too. I have people copy songs from me on YouTube (I know they aren't my songs, but when it's one person copying more than a few songs from you, it lacks originality) and that's annoying. I made a background for someone on YouTube, they wanted another one (the same design, just a different picture in the middle) and I said no because I was busy so she had someone else make her one and they did the exact same design I had (literally, the SAME stinking one) just changed the picture and put a copyright on it!

I'll just wait for LXMXM to post...

I know this sounds bad, I spose if she has consiously (sp?) stolen the art and is consiosuly (sp?) claiming it as her own when she knows that it isn't then I wouldn't be that happy - not that I'm anything amazing at computer art myself :P
But, if this is a true mistake (which I imagine it must be) and she is genuinly sorry and didn't know about this then I don't think it fair to point fingers at her. LoveX has always been nice and genuine to me, so I am fairly sure this is merely a mistake.
I agree with everyone, though, let's wait before we start pointing fingers for an explanation. I just hope LoveX comes and defends herself (although no-one's really attacking yet) soon else it might look kinda suspiscious, although I am sure it's not.

Alright, fine, I'm going to step in here. Yes, I am WSTopDeck from deviantART. I was notified about this on dA and I've decided to voice myself here.

First off, with the linearts I provide, I require that I be given credit as the original artist and my watermark be left on the image. If someone wants to use an image off of dA they must ask permission first and I alwawys ask that they leave a link to my gallery.

Second, while I don't understand why anyone would rather reference art than a photo, I don't really mind my art being REFERENCED. I do however, take offense when my art is TRACED. Which these pictures were. If you don't believe me I can show you the overlayed images.

Truthfully, I do want my available linearts to be enjoyed and colored by people. And I'm fine with people coloring them as gifts for other people. So long as there is no payment involved, fine.

Neither would I. I do hope she comes back and yes I hope she has learned her lesson. Recolor or no recolor it is still stealing. Now that she is aware of it then I"m hopeful she won't do it again. :)

I think everyone misses her and Dolly and we all want her back, I know this must be embarassing for her, maybe we should let this whole mess die down and then she might come back ? I don't know, but I hope she does come back, the forum feels a little empty without her. :(

I think this could be a lesson for the future. If you have something embarassing or a no-no that you need to address, maybe you could pm the person. It doesn't have to be put out there for all to see. If you don't get a reasonable explanation, then take it to the next level. At this point, I think irreparable damage has been done and Mustang may never come back.:( I really think she was just trying to make everyone happy and didn't think of the consequences of not giving credit to the original artist.
